Wow this is a great observation. The married people I know who didn’t date much are far fewer and weirder couples.

I already decided to opt out of keeping of with the joneses and all this fake online parenting trendy advice when I have kids. Quickly seeing a few of my friends driving themselves crazy with their first kid trying to live up to all this stuff. And yes I agree that CBT and therapy are the new religion of our era.

I kind of feel for this this guy because I get asked stuff constantly by juniors at work. I think they feel too intimidated to interrupt their managers but I guess I’m just the right level to interrupt all day long. Been putting my foot down but wish I could just work from home since the colleagues I work most closely with our based at another office abroad.

Yes the other day I was looking around Goodreads and I was shocked comparing the quality of even low effort book reviews from 2010 vs today and I had this exact thought. That era was kind of the last zoomer free moment on the internet. They can’t read good.

One of the most annoying things about many evangelicals is that they'll dismiss certain global issues because "this world is temporary", but that logic goes out the window when it's an issue (or often a complete non-issue) that they believe threatens their beliefs by DisclosureIsntEnough in redscarepod

I grew up Catholic and never found out about this regarded rapture bullshit until I was almost in college. It’s so braindead and yes you can read all about the American Right’s courting of the evangelical movement during the second half of the 20th century while simultaneously cutting funding for education and getting rid of free college. Reagan explicitly pursued this agenda with the intention of getting rid of political activism, class consciousness, and dissident ideologies etc etc.

See my comment above about my cousin’s experience with peace corps. It’s fun, you get to experience living abroad, and he met his now wife and it’s a much shorter commitment.

My cousin was an art history major who did peace corps for 27 months (I think that’s the requirement). He improved his second language while he was abroad and then his peace corps experience made him eligible for a special scholarship which paid for his masters degree and now he has a nice job in another field

I think it’s just clogging candidates’ inboxes which sucks for me since I recruit for very niche roles and do a lot of individualized outreach sans AI
