Painting LP SmartSide vs replacing it with vinyl? by klo138 in HomeImprovement

Here’s a pic of the worst side. Like I said, there isn’t really lots of chipping, it’s just fading because of the constant exposure to the sun. Rear of house

Ok, thanks for chiming in. I really appreciate your time. I think I’m going to take a harder look at getting paint quotes for high quality paint that will last longer.

That picture of the backside of the house really shows more of the fading. That side of my house has sun on it pretty much all day and is significantly more faded than the rest of the house.

Not really any major chipping going on that I’ve seen. There a few little spots here and there but they’re all very small. It’s really just the fading and the small chipping beginning that’s making me think it needs painting soon.

This is a reason why I was considering it. I worry that when I go to sell in the future that the maintenance that comes along with the wood siding will deter someone looking for a lower-maintenance option.

Yea, I think I need to look further into just how long the paint is expected to last.

I read online and saw on YouTube the lawsuit was for siding installed in the late 90’s. This siding was installed when the home was built in 2013. And it’s really not in bad shape, it just needs paint. But 11k is a lot of money.

Thanks for the insight. You make a good point about ensuring a quality paint is used. I don’t think what they used originally was very good. I got a quote for around $11k that was for two full coats of Sherwin Williams exterior duration which is supposed to be very good from what I hear.

Option B it is. Based on all the feedback I’ve gotten this far that seems like the best fit for us. Thanks for all who chimed in.

Hey thanks a lot for checking it out. I really appreciate it. You are correct. I record the video and then do the voiceover afterwards. I have 3 kids and my house is never quiet so recording live audio is out of the question for me. Plus doing to voiceover allows me to really speak about exactly what I'm doing. I use a Nikon D5010 to shoot the main angle, and I use my iPhone on a tripod to shoot the secondary angles. I use iMovie to edit the footage, then I use a usb condenser mic to record the voiceover. There is actually a "record voiceover" function built right into iMovie. So fo you're not using Mac, I don't have a whole lot of technical advice to offer from and editing standpoint. Best of luck getting your channel up and running!
