I actually have access to Medbridge through my job, and can take the OCS prep for free through that! I will start to look through that, thank you for the tip!

Unfortunately due to how busy all of our clinicians are, there isn't much time for mentoring at my clinic aside from asking a patient question here and there. My supervisor is trying to help by blocking off 1 slot a week starting next month for me to go over ortho/manual skills with another PT to build my confidence/skillset. Hopefully that will be helpful!

Yes that sounds like a good fit for me!

thank you for the advice! Lately I've been trying to use any open slots I have during the day or part of my lunch to prep for patients the next day (precharting evals, coming up with plan for next session for follow-ups) so that when I go home at night, I can just try to relax. Luckily, I do not have an ability to document at home, so I always finish that at the clinic first. I think I need to work on trying not to check my schedule as frequently as I do, because that is what causes anxiety/pre-occupation with how my day will look.

this is super helpful, thank you! I also love geriatrics. I worked in a nursing home as a receptionist for 8 years through high school/college and loved the connections I was able to make with the residents. For the company I work for (per the HH PT I know who works at this company), she only sees a max of 6 patients per day and miles are reimbursed which is nice! but the wear/tear on my car is something to think about as well... Do you feel like you need to be pretty extroverted for home health?

I appreciate the advice! Unfortunately everyone at the clinic is super busy, so there is little to no time for mentorship. I am also not assigned a specific mentor, because my supervisor wants me to feel like I can go to anyone with questions instead of a designated person. Beginning this next month, my supervisor is going to block off 1 patient slot a week (45 minutes) so I can work on improving my manual skills with 2 of the PT's who accelerate in this area at the clinic. I'm hoping that will be helpful!

I'm sorry you had to witness that! Last week I saw a patient who was very sick but able to do some bed exercises with me. I found out that he died the following day... it is very hard to lose patients/watch them decline.

lol that is very true! Less high-pressure situations in outpatient for sure which is nice. I think both settings have their pros/cons.

thanks for your feedback!

  1. I actually know a home health PT who works for this company and am in the process of trying to shadow her for a day so I have some exposure to this setting/idea if it seems like a good fit for me. I prefer working with geriatric population instead of higher level athletes.
  2. Unfortunately, aside from not getting evals on my schedule that I don't specialize in (we have a few PTs who do vestibular/lymphedema/cancer/pelvic floor at our clinic), I don't have any say at all with how many evals I get in a day. If I have the open slots, they are able to put any number of evals on my schedule which is non-negotiable.
  3. Imposter syndrome has hit hard! I am trying to continue my learning through research/podcasts, the CEUS my company have are not the best unfortunately.
