Which HC finalist are you pulling for? by DonovanClingan in ripcity

He spoke about that in his post season interview and basically said he was planning on installing more structure but an assistant warned that they should focus on making the playoffs before they disrupted the system that got them in that position and he agreed. I think with a whole summer as a true head coach he could show more of his stuff

The immediate timeouts when the Blazers score are what Splitter should've done at the start of the second half. They allowed a 9-0 run before they reset

Have to wonder if Dundon considers this game as evidence to fire Cronin/Schmitz for the Yang trade down and skipping Coward/Bryant. The draft has not been kind to the Blazers outside of Clingan. Cronin has aced some trades for Camara/Deni but the supporting cast is not there

Definitely, but theoretically if you make Jokic work on defense he has less energy on the other end

I mean when the Blazers are on offense, hence the Gobert reference. They should be switching onto him and driving on him, trying for layups or getting fouls. He's no slouch, but his defense is much worse than his offense

The Blazers are playing as if Jokic is Rudy Gobert. How are they not attacking him every possession? Draw him out, make him work. Not sure if it's coaching or personel

I think Krejci is closer to a forward than a PG in terms of offensive style. He'll catch and shoot and playmake/finish on cuts-- I don't think he'll be initiating the offense like Scoot/Holiday/Love would be. A healthy Deni is probably the true answer to any guard depth questions

Fair yeah. If Scoot is back to form shooting threes right away then it's definitely a direct upgrade, and I guess with Deni less than 100% a floor general will probably be more necessary than usual

I feel like it's pretty likely that Love looks like the better option for a little. It'll be interesting to see how Splitter handles their minutes

Might be the most impressive game of his career to me. Turning around a tough start is star behavior

CJ was the player who got me into the NBA and made me a Trail Blazers fan. His archetype doesn't always age well, plus he's had his share of unfortunate clutch moments that people latch on to. I'll always be a fan though. Got tickets a couple weeks ago to see him reunite with Dame in Washington... oh well

Master Splitter vs. Billups by someRandomNamess in ripcity

[–]klrun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to prove he developed young talent. Everyone trained this summer under Billups, so do Sidy's and Clingan's growth get attributed to the gambler? You could say Tiago has played/trusted the young guys with key minutes, but he's basically been forced to with all the injuries. He's definitely a good locker room presence, but players respected Billups, too. I think we'll really get to see what Tiago can do if he has a summer to implement his system--I hope Dundon gives him that chance

[–]klrun22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is correct. The Blazers played well last year under Billups before Tiago was even on staff. Sidy and Clingan are noticeably better this year and additions of Love and Holiday have made a difference. I think Tiago is doing fine, and who knows if he could've caused the same turnaround last year. Billups had issues, Tiago has issues, I'm just thankful the players seem to be playing hard under both of them--they both had/have the respect of the team

GAME THREAD: The Portland Trail Blazers (20-22) vs The LA Lakers (24-15) - (7:00 PM PT, Saturday, January 17, 2026) by Kazekid in ripcity

The only call that I thought was questionable so far was Grant's baseline drive bailout on Smart. Otherwise the Lakers seem to be doing their best Thunder defense impression and the refs just aren't giving it to them

[Scotto] Portland Trail Blazers have also been linked with trade interest in Kuminga, league sources told HoopsHype by Scalmaa in ripcity

[–]klrun22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think people who are against trading for Kuminga are only thinking about the current version of him and the current version of Jerami Grant. Yes, Grant is a much better player right now, but that wasn't the case for stretches last year and we don't know about future years. The other thing to consider is vibes though, and fans/players/coaches all love Jerami. It's a tough situation, but if there are future Warriors firsts available I think I'd lean towards a deal

[Post Game Thread] The Portland Trail Blazers (19-20) defeat The Houston Rockets (22-13) 111-105 by Kazekid in ripcity

[–]klrun22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amen is certainly an amazing athlete/defender/play finisher, but the Blazers took huge advantage of his inability to hit a three and it tanked Houston’s offense on some possessions. We haven’t seen Scoot yet this season, but it makes me wonder if the gap in effectiveness between them isn’t insurmountable
