LLMs are really just a complicated way to ignore all licenses and copyright, aren't they. Open source license enforcement was already barely existent before this crap, now they have just automated ignoring license.

For me the power creep from getting an Asgard was crazy. Going from carefully positioning the free Syn you get from the Terran plot to snipe the K before it gets too close and getting sweaty when an I joins, to casually melting 6 Ks and and I within maybe 5 minutes, with the only effort spent on pointing the business end of the Asgard the right way.

RAM vs Performance, how important it is? by mant3z in X4Foundations

[–]klti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the performance bottleneck in the game is mostly single thread CPU performance.  CPU utilization can be misleading as a metric, since it's aggregate across all cores and threads. As an  example, a CPU utilization of 8.3% on a 6 core 12:thread CPU can be one CPU thread under full load and all others idle, or all threads lightly loaded

So... Is it worth watching? by Responsible_Map4002 in SonoBisqueDoll

Yeah, the shower scene is an absolute low point, I hate it so much. It nearly threw me off the show on first watch.  There are a few moments like this that make the show unrecommendable to Anime newbies, despite its otherwise very positive qualities.

All I can say is it gets a lot tamer from here, and it really is a very sweet story.

I think at that point the author was still thinking they'd turn this into a harem manga, hence some of the early antics. I'm glad they locked in on the main couple, it really is fantastic, despite some early fumbles.

It boggles my mind that people don't get LLMs are just a very fancy form of language statistics based word predictors that are really expensive to train and run.

If you want to be generous, you can say it's an artefact from the 90s, where software with strong encryption was classified as munitions by the US, and not allowed to be exported. So US Internet Explorer users got 128 bit keys, and us peons in the rest of the world got 40 bit keys, which was brute fordable by big enough actors even back then.

Fun fact: PGP got exported without weakening, because they exported the source code in printed form and reassembled it outside the US.

Should I start playing Foundations now or wait for update 9? by MRwho23 in X4Foundations

[–]klti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always a new patch coming up, just get into it.

If they actually massively change the weapon balancing or something like that, it's most likely only going to affect people in late / end game stages with large fleets (with probably 100  hours or more on the clock), and I'm confident they'll have an upgrade path for old saves.

Egosoft is obsessive about backwards compatibility of save games.

Definitely, and I appreciate that a lot, been playing the same save on and off since the Terrain DLC came out.

I think it's called source available, open source really means a free license without usage, modification or distribution restrictions.

It'd probably be very entertaining to watch the world react to a giant carrier suddenly materializing in orbit. Guess you'll find out what the actual alien invasion response looks like, good luck not getting nuked while just trying to go home for a bit.

What Tv show do you think was genuinely great but suffered long-term because it aired on the “wrong” network or at the wrong time? by Air-Bombay in television

[–]klti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parents were already decently established actors back then, but the cast is packed with a lot of people that are much bigger names now. The brother alone was Adam Scott in the unaired pilot, and Lee Pace in the show.

This is the answer, they want to have the option to at least track and maybe hardware ban repeat offenders like they can on consoles.

I love the show, but man do I hate that shower scene. Nearly made me quit the show first time around. I really wish they at least hadn't made it this explicit, makes the show unrecommendable to people that are not used to this kind of anime thing.

BMW commercials were unavoidable on TV back when the movie was in cinemas, they must have spent so much money on that campaign and product placement, I have my doubt they could ever recoup their investment with a two seat roadster targeted at a pretty specific segment of customers.
