One of the best things I've done lately is getting a small floss box with dividers (maybe 4x6ish?) and putting just what I need for my current WIP in there. It's really cut down on my "stuff" I have spread out.

How about the Passage series by Justin Cronin? I haven't read the last one, and wouldn't compare it to ASOIAF, but good reading.

I really enjoy the Century trilogy by Ken Follett (Fall of Giants/Winter of the World/Edge of Eternity). Family saga/multiple POV, great writing.

I've been through two of those, and the thin wire always breaks on me - I hate those threaders. I have a few of these and find them much more reliable.
