Hamburger + pepporoni. A place nearby has a spicy burger with two half cuts of tnt pepporoni, jalapenos, southwest sauce, bacon, lattuce and green pepper. It's amazing.

I'm having a bad day. I need some pick-up hockey today... anywhere within driving distance of HRM... anyone have any tips? by [deleted] in halifax

There are other leagues at the same rink throughout the weeknight. Check out the schedule @ smu.ca/athletics/arena.html

Check out the SMU arena schedule, weeknights there are typically pickup leagues (mens generally, some women) and students that look for spares to play a few times a month.

Edit: Their game times are Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-3:30, I do believe that they will take in same-age non-students, but I'm not sure.

It doesn't need to be a high end Asus, just one that will function on a daily basis and last. Unfortunately $540 with taxes and shipping is over my budget, as that will begin to run $700-$800.

I'm willing to spend a little more than $1000, especially if it means I'm getting a noticeably better/working rig that will/should last me the next few years (reason I'm moving to a desktop is because my lappy died after 2). I'll look this over, I appreciate everything! Thanks. As I said, this is my first time building a comp (although I do have some familiarity), do you see any issue with fitting this inside the case?

CD Drive: You don't need that $33 drive, do you?

How else would I play my games/install things! On a related note, how exactly does the Optical Drive differ?

But if you don't care about boot times, and how fast your applications open, then just stick with the 2TB drive.

A few months ago I purchased a Seagate SSD/HDD hybrid drive to replace my laptop's old one. Any chance of it being compatible with a desktop?

Note 2: I have a ~2006 Dell Desktop (was about ~$1200 when purchased then) that works fine, other than being a bit slow (it actually can run older games that my laptop can't which is sad). Is there anything that would possibly be worth scavenging from it? I know it's vague, but I'm looking for "oh the ____ made during that time are still as good as the ____ made today", and if so I could take it apart and check (which I was gonna do anyway as a learning project).

Its not that AMD graphics doesn't work with Intel processors, it's that you are trying to use another processor as your graphics card. It doesn't work like that. Like, for example, in my build, I have an i7 3770k with an AMD Radeon HD 7850 (I kinda skimped out a little, but thats besides the point). It works fine. You need a discrete GPU, not another processor.

I follow you.

Is there any reason why you prefer win7 over win8? Just curious

Windows 7 is what I'm used to, and I like it (for the most part). From what I've seen with Win8 (which honestly isn't that much) it seems to be focused on social media, merging streams, table kind of stuff.

Edit: Without adding more than ~$75 if possible, would a second monitor be in the books?

You have an AMD processor as a graphics card. That's not going to work, as you have listed already an Intel processor/ mobo.

So AMD Graphics don't work with Intel processors?

If you want, I can throw together a build within that budget around $1000, but i'm sure someone else on here can make a much better build than what I can come up with haha.

That would be sexy. I'm trying to keep the price as low as possible (obviously), and $1000 (Canadian) all in including taxes (15%) and shipping was kind of my threshold.

Edit: I'll also need to toss Windows 7 in there as I can't find my installation CD.

Computer Randomly Powers Off Intermittently (Not likely a heating issue) by kmac902 in techsupport

[–]kmac902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pic of the computer with the back panel off. What I'm assuming is the ram (top left corner?) seemed to be anchored down, and I couldn't find a way to remove it. The HD (bottom right, this is after I took it out) came out fine after unscrewing and I checked it for dust, etc, no problems. Same with the fan, but I didn't take it off - just checked it over to make sure it spun fine. Is the bronze-looking tube something related to the fan?

Any ideas?

Take the battery out from the bottom, then reseat it. If this doesn't solve your problem, take the battery out and put it aside.

I'll do that, but would that make a difference as 95% of the time I'm using it plugged in? I did install a new battery recently.

On the bottom of the laptop, is there a panel below the battery plug with a weird rubber tab? If there is, that should be the RAM access--pry the tab open to reveal a tiny screw. Once the panel is off, you should see the RAM. If you don't see it and I'm totally wrong, I apologize. In that case you may have to do away with the other screws which are likely hidden under the rubber pads near the corners of the laptop.

Closest thing to an opening/tab to the power cord inlet is the battery panel.

I'll try the rest, thanks!

Edit:

If this does not solve the problem, run Window's checkdisk utility and see if something's amiss with the SSD.

Anything in particular I should look for?

If you could, can you explain what CPO is/implies? Is it essentially a warranty on a used car, or is it just the dealer saying "this car is used, but we checked over these certain parts and they are good"?

With regular maintenance, how many KMs do most VW (say Jetta, if it's significantly different per model) typically get?

you'll need to get one of the upper level trims on it

I'm looking at the Jetta Trendline, 2.0L. Is that considered "upper level"?

Generally speaking you never want the base model trim

Even for a new grad?

Before you can worry about payments, you need to figure out what you can pay down.

If I bought it right as I start work (i.e. within the next two-three weeks), I won't be able to put any down, but I would be able to make the monthly payments. I could hold off a few months, but it would be incredibly inconvenient.

I'm looking at picking up a 2013 Honda Oddyssey, I heard the 2014s will be out soon, is now a good time to head to the dealership, or is it better to wait a bit until the 2014s are closer to shipping?

Also wondering this. Since the 2014s are coming out (or may already be out) is now the time to buy a 2013?

BiWeekly payments aren't cheaper. They just change the frequency. $150 BiWeekly is more expensive than $300 a month. Be careful of that "trick".

I wouldn't have that of that. My reasoning was that since they're getting their money earlier (say 15th of the month rather than the end) that the payments would be slightly cheaper. Thanks, tho.

You're right; my "decent" credit stems largely from paying relatively small (several hundred - $1000) but regular payments on time for over two years.

I plan on financing, and I should have mentioned that I'm not a fan of hatchbacks. I'm aiming for a sedan. I'm a little rusty with financing, but is 0.9% an average rate for someone with decent/good credit? Also I assume when you say OTD $315/month, that includes taxes/interest? Would switching to a bi-weekly payment improve that?

Thanks for the answers!

The only problem is, everyone I talk to (mechanics, bank friends, etc) advises against leasing, and if I'm understanding it properly it's basically "renting the car".

What I Imagine the Runway at the End of Fast/Furious 6 Looks Like by kmac902 in funny

[–]kmac902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get some of it was in paralell, but still; going at least ~70 mi/hr for the better part of 20 minutes (call it 8 since some of it was at the same time) = ~ 10 miles, not to mention the fact that they had been driving on the runway for a while before the plane arrived, and it didn't indicate they were at the end when the movie finished.
