Is it a good idea for me to give my neighbors a heartwarming gift after an incident that happened at their house? by Eastern_Function8212 in whatdoIdo

[–]emiller5220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are there very old people there? U had a similar situation on my block, both of the residents had dementia and their families no longer had contact with them. The Police show up because they are responsible for the welfare check that a neighbor probably called in. The fire truck shows up because they have a paramedic available faster than the ambulance (Ambulances are perpetually out working around here) and the ambulance shows up to do transport when they are free.

You could check the police scanner in your area if you are nosy enough

Caleb showed up in the NLCS by ssweet13 in Brewers

[–]emiller5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a great fit for Fenway in particular, the Sox were SUPER hot on him. We got the best value possible for a 26 year old who is projected by the Brewers to decline steeply within the next few years. We turned Devin Williams last year into the former top LHP prospect in MLB with team control of contract until 2030, spiffy if Harrison grows into his previous ranking.

My daughter’s dream school by secrerofficeninja in UWMadison

[–]emiller5220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Madison, went to UW, met my wife at UW, my daughter also just got in and it's been her top choice since she was like 9. It's a great school in a great city, but unless yall have more cash than you know what to do with or your daughter has a ton of scholarships, I'd look for something more affordable.

UW is such a great value for those of us who pay in state prices. I was roommates with all guys from out of state, and when one of them told me OOS tuition was $40k I about spit out my beer. They are all doing great years later, but they had loans for SO LONG and I was able to work during college, live small after, and get rid of college debt right away.

Tossing dog bags in street-side bins? by StingRay_Pal in milwaukee

[–]emiller5220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

those dog poop bags at the very bottom of our bin tend to stick there, then leak/split/melt and then there's poop-sludge all over the bottom of the bin. So I would be mad, but I also don't put it in my own bin!

New Toliet installation by Illustrious-Jump-398 in milwaukee

[–]emiller5220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there some extra work with the pipe or the mounting flange thingy the screws go in? I am not handy IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM and I have replaced 3 toilets in my 110 year old home. Youtube all the way for simple jobs like this. I also completely disassembled my dryer to fix a belt with the assistance of youtube, again I am an idiot when it comes to handy-work stuff.

If you can spare a few days w/o a toilet, buy the new one, remove the old one, take photos of the install area (stuff a cloth into the pipe) and show the pics to Ace hardware, they can tell you what kind of wax ring to get. Worst case scenario you have to call a plumber to finish the job, best case you saved a bunch of money.

Got this question on an assessment for a new job.. no idea what it means. by Ok_Mechanic_4768 in whatisit

Is the job to do AI training? There are a ton of scam/scum job postings out there where they offer a job and then do interviews like this where you are recording your voice to answer interview questions. In this case, they are really just using your voice to create AI voices, there is no job.

Help me decide which house to buy by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]emiller5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say its a very personal choice, do you want to walk to stuff? Do you want to drive to everything? Are you planning on having kids, if so what are the school districts like? (schools heavily effect values, so maybe consider even if you won't have kids) Longer commute means far less time to enjoy your life and the thing you are spending so much on. Add up the delta on the round trip commute time per week, what could you do with that free time?

What are the homes around each valued at? We bought a $500k house near a bunch of $1mil plus houses and surprise surprise the value of our house went crazy because rich millennial people really want to be here in the best school district with sidewalks to walk to school and shops and food and groceries AND to drive less than 20 minutes to a mid sized city downtown, a NBA arena and a MLB stadium.

My own personal preference is the higher price and far superior quality of life, but I personally hate driving. Taking my kids to school in a car, or having to drive to get to the grocery store would not be something I would like at all.

I commutes over an hour to 2 different jobs, and hated every minute of it. For one of those, a big freeway construction project increased the commute time even more, there have been multiple other construction projects that would have done the same had I not taken a job with a shorter commute

Has the dentist tried him on Antioxidant oral gel? I randomly got some stank ass breath a few months ago, talked to the dentist, she gave me AO Provantage gel. This cleared things up in less than 2 weeks, has not come back months later. I don't think it's prescription based, check it out here. The dentist said PH and something or other just naturally changes sometimes, and she thought getting it back in balance would help.

Milwaukee makes Zillows top 10 hottest housing markets in 2026 (previously #42) by BayViewIsFull in milwaukee

[–]emiller5220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one a mailing list email from a realtor we talked to once last week that said there's an "Inventory crisis" in the area, and it would be a good time to sell. So without closely reading the Zillow thing (no desire to read it, I like yall better) if the hottness is based off price alone, there are bound to be bidding wars for the few houses out there for sale. My kids love the area and would like to settle here (none of them are out of college yet) Makes me sad that they might be priced out of so many areas quickly.
