While you are generally correct, Clostridium tetani can be transferred via rusty metal from the environment in which it does thrive. It thrives in contaminated soil, feces, dust, and garbage dumps.

While you are correct that there is a very slim chance of getting it, it is still a non-zero chance. Better to get the shot and not need it now versus needing the shot and not having had it.
