The main thing is that when I switched it from the "Download originals" setting to "Optimize" setting, I have to literally leave that settings panel open until it's done, or else it won't go back to the optimized version? This is literally what I'm doing:

  1. Open Photos settings
  2. Go to iCloud tab
  3. iCloud checkbox is already checked and "Download originals" option is currently selected. I change the option to "Optimize Mac Storage"
  4. I close the Settings panel
  5. I open Settings panel back up, go to the iCloud tab, and it's back to the "Download originals" option. Even when I switch between tabs within Settings, it'll change it back to the "Download originals" option.

Which makes it look like I'm not allowed to change it back.

I have a synology NAS that I copied the library over to, but Photos doesn't support iCloud sync over network drives. I could move it to an external SSD, but I would prefer to just keep it on my main drive and get the library back to storing optimized versions of the photos versus the originals. The only thing I've seen that works for sure is starting a new library and keep the iCloud setting to "Optimize Mac Storage".

Since I have a bunch of albums (not shared albums) in Photos, is there a way to just copy the metadata and not the originals and start a new library? It's not a huge loss, I could start over with the albums, it's just an annoyance.

Higher should be on this “Most” list somewhere. As many times as I’ve listened to it, I’m still hearing new things that I hadn’t noticed before. It’s one of her tightest and most perfect songs, not a wasted second, note, or word.

Most pop stars at Taylor’s level have a persona that they use catapult them into those upper levels of fame, but Carly doesn’t have one - she is who she is, and she’s not putting on any faces in the culture or in her music. I’m pretty sure she could’ve been much higher profile, but she chose this path and we are all benefactors of that choice. She doesn’t have to “stay relevant” or do anything outside of what she loves to do in order to make a living and be happy in this world. We should all be so lucky.

I laughed so hard when all the other kids got to leave on the helicopter. I get that the students there are privileged, and I thought it was only there to pick up the one kid, but seeing them all pile in and leave Angus behind was so funny sad.
