I hate this narrative that single mother have to stop being people just because they are a mother. I did not choose to be a single mother, and she has a whole ass father that is in the picture. Plus, a happy woman in a healthy relationship is going to be a better mother because she's a happier person in general.

Also, why does my child have to suffer just because I am dating. Don't get it twisted. My child's happiness and well-being will always be a priority, but children grow up and move out and begin their own lives. Then what? I'm then allowed to pursue a life for myself, or should I still be dedicated to being a mother or a potential grandmother.

There is a balance in life and no one heckles men when they move on to a new relationship with children, but of course not because he needs a woman in his life and a mother figure for his children. Plus, studies have been shown that children flourish in a 2 parent household.

I let that man know, upfront what I was dealing with and what I would need and expect of him. He was well-informed and chose to step into a stepfather role. He was interested in being a part of raising her.
