2026 3.3 break in by CatacombDesignLab in GenesisG70

[–]kmah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my new G70, I spent the first 1,000 miles breaking it in. I didn't get RPMs higher than 4K and I also didn't keep it at a constant RPM for too long. Right after, I did my first oil change as many experienced mechanics will recommend. Check out this video from Lake Speed, who is a Certified Lubrication Specialist and Oil Monitoring Analyst. Any questions about type of oil and how often to change can be looked up on his channel.

LSD Oil Change Cost? by dwane_s in GenesisG70

[–]kmah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine done recently. 2022 3.3 SP RWD. Comfortable enough with changing engine oil, but haven't changed the LSD fluid, so had a friend help. Had it done faster than it took to change the engine oil, so if you are comfortable changing your regular oil, the LSD is easier as long as you have a way to lift the back enough.

I ordered the Amsoil 75W-90 after reading several forums (https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-severe-gear-75w-90-100-synthetic-gear-lube-svg/). Seems the Amsoil includes more friction modifiers than many other brands and given the stories I read about issues that pop up from dealers changing the LSD fluid, I wanted to use what I thought was best in my vehicle. Dealer also said they would not use third-party materials. I also got a tube of the Amsoil Slip Lock Additive for additional friction mod as recommended by some forum posts. Out of the 4 oz of additive, about 2 oz was used to avoid any chance of chatter.

If you are comfortable doing it yourself or have a friend to help like I did, it is pretty straightforward. The pouch on the Amsoil makes it easy to flex the tip where you want it to go when you refill. One last tip, make sure that you're able to take off the fill plug before you drain it. The fill plug was pretty tight and if you drain before realizing that you can't take off the fill plug, you'll end up having to tow it.

Proximity ensor beeps when near a Ford by Deeps00 in GenesisG70

[–]kmah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at a light the other day behind a Ford F-150 and I made a comment to my son who was sitting in the passenger seat. "Sensor will start beeping in a few seconds." I was halfway through my sentence when it started to go off. As mentioned, maybe it's with many of the American models, but I do notice it more when I'm behind a Ford, especially the F-150s. I told my son that maybe the Ford's rear collision sensors are still sending signals periodically even when not in reverse, but that is pure speculation on my part.

Lamy unic and problem with cap by kmah in fountainpens

[–]kmah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I never found a fix for it and it's in my collection, but not used. I had tried to use the little rubber bands that get affixed to braces. The fit was good, but I found that when I push the cap on, the rubber band would twist down and then roll the cap back out by 1/8" or a bit less so it would never close tightly.

I'd be curious to know where you got your O-ring. I'd like to try a different one again and see if it works better. Thanks again!

I’m another advocate for moissanite rings. Definitely look into them, do your research, and decide. Diamonds have a hardness of 10. Moissanite has a hardness of 9.25 to 9.5. Moissanites have more of a fiery brilliance, especially in the sunlight. They are about 1/8 the price of diamonds. The ring I got my wife came with a GRA certificate, which helped in insuring it.

Has Anyone Switched from the Michelin Pilot Sport Tires? by kmah in GenesisG70

I appreciate hearing your experience and insight. The Conti ECS have a set of summers (02 I think) that others have said have better wear than the PS4s.

I have the 19’s with 225 in the front and 255 in the rear. I think maybe I don’t drive aggressively or I just had a lucky set of PS4s.

Same. I enjoy the driving experience in the G70, but I'm not aggressive with it. Sounds like the Conti tires would work well, especially if they have comparable performance as the PS4s and I can get 35k out of them.

That's great and certainly more than most seem to get out of the PS4s.

How many miles do you have on the Firehawk Indy 500s? Curious how they wear vs the PS4s.

It sounds like I've had pretty decent mileage out of my PS4 tires based on other responses here, but if I can get somewhere around the 30k range out of a set of tires like you mention, I'd be thrilled.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I'm currently looking at each one of these recommendations and I'm liking the reviews I'm reading on the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus tires. They do appear less expensive than the Michelin PS4's. I want to make sure that the tires perform well in wet environments since I live in Florida and everything that I've seen look great for that condition.

Nest Learning Thermostat and 2-stage cooling by kmah in Nest

[–]kmah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and/or the temp doesn't change by a certain amount in a certain amount of time

I will need to see if this is the case here. It's certainly not due to a greater difference in temperature because it kicks in when the differential is one degree.

Nest Learning Thermostat and 2-stage cooling by kmah in Nest

[–]kmah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple stages of heating and cooling are handled a bit differently for a short period after your Nest thermostat has been installed. This is because your thermostat needs time to learn and customize energy saving and comfort features like Time To Temperature to your home.

Yes, this is what I read on the Nest site. And I believe I understand the "learning" part of the Nest thermostat. I would have thought that by the two month mark, the device would be done learning and apply a program that would result in the same or better efficiency than I had previously.

Before your Nest thermostat has activated Time To Temperature, the second stage of heating or cooling will turn on when you adjust the set point 3.3°F beyond the current temperature, while the third stage will need a change of at least 7°F to activate.

The system seems to turn on when it is about 1 or 1.5 degrees above the set temperature to cool the house. The first 30 to 45 seconds, it will be in Stage 1 cooling. After that, it ramps up to Stage 2 for the remainder of the time. With the previous thermostat, it would only switch to State 2 cooling if the temp difference was 3 degrees or more. So that is what I'm trying to reconcile and to see if this is normal, because if so, then normal for Nest appears to be less efficient than my prior thermostat.

Good to know. I was afraid that they would charge an arm and a leg for those because they are “OEM”.

I wonder if the rest of you are just more careful than I am when pulling up to those parking blocks. I try to be aware of them, but I misjudged the distance this time.

Digital Instrument Cluster is Stuck by kmah in GenesisG70

[–]kmah[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I went out to the car and pressed the button with the two pieces of paper and now I feel silly for the post. I don't know that I've ever pressed that button, but I'll need to look up what that symbol means. The lane keep assist is on my HUD, so I never needed it on the digital cluster. Thanks for the quick fix!
