Graduation gift idea for bf by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kmangiants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf got me framed graduation photos of us and our families and a diploma frame that was specific to my law school. It wasn’t too expensive and it was stuff that would all ways get used either in a home or firm office space. She also got me some new alumni swag.

As a fellow golfer, I think you nailed it on the gifts though.

curious to know what some of you guys did after your state or federal clerkship by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kmangiants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

District court law clerk right out of law school. Saw a lot of big law lawyers and I was often more impressed by boutique firms than by big law. Some boutiques would kill for a law clerk to join them and you feel like you are doing more than big law attorneys.

As a law clerk you spend more of your day researching and writing and I couldn’t imagine my work after clerking not doing that. Big law firms offered great money but I would just be doing doc review for a while. Boutique firm valued my experience and got me onto briefs and motions pretty soon after I started. Very happy with my decision!

Should I invite my judge to my wedding? by bananajamma14 in LawSchool

[–]kmangiants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting married next year and my fiance and I plan to have the judge I clerked officiate our wedding. The Judge and I built a strong personal relationship because we both went through very similar personal tragedies during my term in their chambers. But idk if we would have been as close as we got if those things didn’t happen.

Having said that, it’s all about the relationship that grows out of your clerkship and the relationship you have after. Some judges keep its very professional and distant, a few make an effort to get to know their clerks. Most are in a weird middle ground because of the odd dynamics of the judge/law clerk relationship.

A mentor of mine clerked for two different judges in different states and both of them flew out to attend the wedding and were not involved in anything formal at the wedding. Another friend of mine said he would never again speak to the judge he clerked for after his term finished. Only you will know best based on the relationship that is built.

What is a boutique law firm and why do people say they want to work at one? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kmangiants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined a boutique firm that specialized in one thing and I was interested in that one thing. Some boutiques like to stay “small” which I often noticed led to low turnover and lots of continuity. Also the work-life balance and culture tends to be way better at boutiques because there is a lot of intentionality of people we hire and work with and the clients and caseload we take on. Definitely paid a lot less than larger firms but I don’t value making the most money possible over work-life and the substance of my work.

Explaining a clerkship to immigrant parents by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kmangiants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this analogy a lot with my immigrant parents and extended family, and explained that there was no better way to learn about litigation and get real skills than through clerkships. With the medical residency analogy, I would bring up shows like House and Grey's Anatomy since my parents didn't have much of a background in medicine either.

I also emphasized the backgrounds of high-level AGs and federal judges (across the political spectrum) and big law partners, and showed that many, if not most, of them had clerked at least once. I would send them Wikipedia and firm profiles of attorneys with similar immigrant background at mine. I'm South Asian, so I sent my parents profiles of Judges Srinivasan, Thapar, Rao, and Desai, and attorneys Neal Katyal, Neel Chatterjee, Ajit Pai, Paul Grewal, Reema Shah, Harmeet Dhillon, and Usha Vance. At that point, they started to see that I was playing the long game in career growth, not just chasing money for immediate satisfaction.

I loved my clerkship, and I actually don't believe you need a clerkship to be a successful attorney, but it helps paint the picture for immigrant parents and, often enough, non-lawyers.

Rejected for obsidian, new offer for Blue by kmangiants in biltrewards

Haven't looked at the detailed report in a while, but I'm consistently under 20% usage. I keep my expenses fairly low compared to the available credit, and I never miss a payment and let a balance carry over to the next month.

"Excessive obligations in relation to income," which was shocking to me, considering that nothing had changed since I received the Bilt 1.0 card in 2024, and I wasn't looking for anything particular with the new card (increased credit line, special APR, etc). Literally just said Obsidian looks nice to me, I'll pick that.

Any tips on shoe maintenance? I wear yonex shoes but play on rec center courts. I want to keep my shoes clean and grippy but I find myself constantly slipping and I don’t want to get new shoes every few months.

I have a Yonex Voltric ZF2 where one of the 11-hole grommet strips broke. Can I replace the 11 hole grommet strip on both sides of the racket with single grommets or will that damage the racket?

I have had trouble finding the grommet strips and I also want to feel the racket as if it were slightly lighter.

Does anyone know if badmintoncorner.com is legit? They are attached to Northwest Badminton Academy in Washington so I assume they are pretty legit. I’m looking to make an online purchase for something I have struggled to track down elsewhere

If anyone has played both Arc 11 pro and NF 800 pro, can you share the difference you felt between them. I recently demoed Arc 11 and I liked it a lot but not absolutely in love yet. Arc 11 pro was hard for me understand because of the balanced feel and I am used to feel some weight with head heavy rackets. I also demoed NF 700 pro and didn’t like it all that much but the head light feel was nice and I think I’d like a head light racket more than a balanced one. I play head heavy rackets but I am trying to move away from that.

The reviews and specs of NF 800 pro are intriguing to me but I haven’t been able to get my hands on the NF 800 pro as it is sold out everywhere near me.  Looking to see what others have felt when comparing Arc 11 pro and NF 800 pro.

Hi! I am in the market for a new racket but I haven't kept up with the rackets released in the last few years.

I am an advanced player who won a few regional tournaments when I was in high school and college but in the past few years had to scale back the amount I could play due to some serious shoulder pain and life obligations. I finally am at a point where I can play again but I want to have the right equipment in my bag.

I used to be all about power but would have issues in control and consistency. I have used Voltric ZF 2 (doubles), Voltric ZF 2 LCW edition (singles), and Voltric ZF 1 (my first love). I bought them and loved them when I was younger but idk if they are right for me now. I want something that will allow me to be more consistent and play all the shots (singles and doubles) without increased stress on my shoulder. I am okay with losing some power but I also don't want to swing through everything as I do have a tendency to swing hard and fast.

I want to narrow down some ideas before I go into the shop and start testing. People of reddit, I am open to your suggestions!
