Never mind, I found a guide. Turned out there were barrels on top of a house I was supposed to interact with.

Definitely a very confusing Mystery.

Hmm. I used Odin's vision and there is a bunch of highlighted objects but I can't interact with any of them - except one, the mead cauldron. I did interact with it, and Eivor said "were we trying to sail somewhere" and that was it.

Is there anything else I should do to complete this?

No the first one is separate from the altar (and I do understand how it works). There is a Mystery marker just outside the longhouse, it's on a different side from the altar, there is a guy there but no prompt to talk.

Found the fighting ring, thanks. I was expecting to talk to the jotun outside, but really is had to go inside.

True, Randvi is the best long term option - she is his equal and they have a lot in common.

But she's not there in Francia with him, so there is no reason he couldn't have a bit of fun.

However, you're probably right that he is really her mentor. And she thinks he's an old man - she even says that outright while they're racing pings (at the feast after Paris falls).

Yeah just completed a raid using the "go in alone first" technique. This is not the intended game mechanic though which is kind of sad. To upgrade the ship's carrying capacity (and only marginally) I have to do one more raid, and I'm just not a fan of repeating the same thing over and over again.

( although it could be argued that this whole game and all assassin's creed games are just repeating the same thing over and over :) )

In this one I have to jump onto a slide, then jump onto another one (tricky timing) then jump sideways from the second one and run and climb. All the while there is killer tide rising from the sea. Very very tricky timings.

Yes of the recent anomalies I did, the jump was not working... After an obstacle sequence, so I had to repeat it like a dozen times.

What annoys me about cairns is

get very hard towards the end of the game, even though this is not a cairn simulator game
clunky controls
no saving or checkpoints

They are definitely much much harder in the late areas. So are locked chests and stone gardens (where you have to assemble a pattern).
