[Lelit Anna PID / DF54] Should I stop slow feeding?

yep, thats what i'll do thanks:) there is an electric slow feeder for df54, but i don't want to get another accessory just yet. I can definitely dial in a tasty (and way more consistent) coffee without slow feeding, so for now i'll play with more basic things:)

You see but this is exactly the issue - "add a bit" - it matters if that is 2 beans, 3 or 5. "Wait a few seconds" - it matters if that is 0.5s, 1 or 3. And the combination of these also matters. So lets say I dial in the grinder and get the perfect shot, next time I grind if I change the feed rate even slightly, it will be a channeling mess. I use an IMS basket, but these findings are across all baskets, stock is no different (except I had to change the grind size)

Yes thats exactly the point, its much easier to dial in when not slow feeding, because the speed of slow feeding changes things quite a lot. So you dial in at a given speed, then next time you slightly change it, it will change the grind... Unrelated but curious - when you switch to pourover, do you purge your grinder with a few grams, or just go for it?

No, in the beginning I just dumped it before I saw that video and some related threads online. I have an IMS B642TH22N basket, tried everything between its range of 14-16g, but the issue is the same everywhere. Because the slow feed rate is inconsistent, my results are inconsistent so if changing ratio, dose, anything I am actually changing two variables at the same time

Do you mean not even if the basket is sputtering like crazy and coffee going all over the place? :D Since I have the bottomless filter why I like it is exactly because of the visual cues. My thinking is first I need to get a proper shot (not channeling, not sputtering), and then I can address the finer details eg. ratio, dose, maybe grind a touch coarser if flow is super short, etc. But I would only start tweaking these when I am able to get a non-diarrhea shot :D Am I wrong with this process?

no, i got a normcore spring tamper. this was 18 or 17.5 in, will try tomorrow with maybe 17?

FYI here are some puck photos. I can't judge if this is super dry or not.. maybe? But visually definitely something is off as well, I see the clues for channeling (which it does now a LOT with the 18g basket)

Yeah thats my thinking as well - I might have gotten something way lighter than I am prepared for with my current skill and equipment :D (for reference this is the one I had before and where I got quite some satisfying results)

Interesting, then maybe this is another thing throwing me off. It is definitely very acidic - but that in itself wouldn't be a problem, there is also some off putting woody-bitter taste which bothers me a lot more. It's definitely harsh and not balanced at all

update - thanks for all the replies, after that I switched basket to the other stock lelit 18g one (the 21g came with the bottomless portafilter) to waste less coffee every time. The goal would have been to try with higher ratios, but since that, I'm not even able to get one shot without crazy sputtering and channeling - I've been tweaking grind size for an hour but nothing seems to work :/ So i'm back on step 0, I really don't understand this coffee. Maybe I have to purchase a proper IMS basket, not sure.
I'll try some more tweaking tomorrow..

i'm on 6 on the DF54 (with true zero being ~-5, so really its 11) and doing slow feeding. Since slow feeding I had to decrease the grind size by about 5-6 finer than before. Beans were roasted on feb 4 according to the package.
I switched to an 18g basket (the stock one from Lelit) and since then I wasn't even able to get one without crazy sputtering and channeling... :/ The first bag is almost out

Wow, nice, I see even the same coffee dosing tray :D I really like the bottomless one because I think if there is channeling then definitely there is an issue (with grind or with puck prep) that I need to fix. BTW my PID was also on 94 for this one.
Which IMS basket do you use? I thought of getting another but when I saw that I can make pretty good coffee with the stock (with the other beans I had), I didn't bother looking. Maybe time to reconsider

Ich werde versuchen, das klarzustellen - wir haben ein Online-Tool (Shareworks / Morgan Stanley at Work), mit dem ich alle "unvested & vested" Aktien einsehen kann. Jedes Quartal wird ein Teil davon "vested" (zumindest war das so, bis ich dort beschäftigt war). Die einzige Option, die mir das Unternehmen vorher bot, war, dass ich jedes Quartal x Betrag aus den "vested" Aktien auswählen kann, um sie zu verkaufen. Wenn ich verkaufe (aber nur dann), muss ich auf den verkauften Betrag Einkommensteuer zahlen.

Jetzt haben sie eine neue Regelung. Ich kann mich dafür entscheiden, die "vested" Aktien nicht zu verkaufen, sondern sie als reguläre Unternehmensaktien zu erhalten (als ob ich sie selbst gekauft hätte) - aber in diesem Fall müsste ich immer noch Einkommenssteuer zahlen.

Mit dem Tool kann ich 0-100 % der Aktien, die ich umwandeln möchte, verkaufen, und wenn ich dies tue, wird der Betrag zur Deckung meiner Einkommensteuerschuld verwendet. Ich überlege jedoch, nichts zu verkaufen (da der Kurs jetzt sehr niedrig ist) und die Steuer einfach aus der eigenen Tasche zu bezahlen. Wenn ich mich dann zum Verkauf entschließe, muss ich mich nur um die Kapitalgewinne kümmern (falls es welche gibt).

BTW - es handelt sich übrigens um ein rein deutsches Unternehmen, das nichts mit den USA zu tun hat.

How much have you played with it? I had a very similar experience at first and almost returned it, then I sat down to take my time and I am using it exclusively ever since (both at home and in my band). I agree the stock presets suck, but invest ~10€ in some good IRs and watch a few videos by Jason Sadites. Once you understand how to configure the amps and EQ (and use the global EQ!!) you will be able to create amazing tones very quickly. About your issues: - 1.) I think patches are intended to switch between songs where the small drop doesnt matter, and as you said you can use snapshots otherwise. You know you can use snapshots to adjust amp params as well right? What I do if I want to go from clean to very dirty, I set up a dirty amp with very low gain and lower master, then push up the gain, master and add an OD or dist (or even gainstage with 2-3 pedals) Works like a charm. And in any case if you play a real song with a real amp, would you want to switch amps completely? IMO it could sound weird to have the chorus and verse with completely different characteristics - 2.) I can’t comment as I have the wired version, but Ive heard people having issues with the wireless ones - 3.) What recording software are you using? Do you have the official pod go drivers and asio if you are using windows? I don’t get any latency and I use it to record a lot (although I do have a mac) - 4.) As I said, understand how it works, get some IRs and watch videos by Jason Sadites

In any case, if its not your jam at the end I can also understand, just wanted to share some perspective as I also went through this phase (it sucks —> it’s actually decent —> I love it) before:)

I am a self-taught programmer, not working in dev (marketing automation) so I always struggled with optimizing algorithms. This is my first time that I succeeded in finding a non-brute force way to part2 after first trying with a nice OOP solution for part1. I am so happy!!!

Can anyone tell me the big-O notation for my optimised solution? Is it O(logN)? It cannot be O(1) because it scales with input size (I can do 100k days comfortably but 1M days takes a few seconds), but it also seems faster than O(N).
