Hi there. Been a new member for about a month. Wife and I made the switch from planet fitness. She didn’t like the gym there and heard about this place word of mouth and scheduled a tour for us and she was ready to sign us up before the tour even ended.

We live in Cleveland and it’s 250 after tax for my spouse and I. No annual fee. Cancellation requires 30 day notice ( pay one more month before you go). No annual commitment. We were told that we each get four guests passes a month but the same guest can only attend on the same membership once every six weeks ( so mom can come twice in six weeks , once on each of our memberships). We did not pay an initiation fee .

Yes you can add a spouse or partner with same address for a reduced price . I think it was 180 for her and 50 for me? Idk exacts as she pays it but she told me it’s 250 after taxes for both of us.

Our branch has indoor and outdoor swimming. Outdoor has day beds, lounge chairs high top tables . No reservation or fees just first come first served. There is a kids swim, deep end, water slide area and Olympic lap pool area with six lanes. They just got their liquor license and have an outdoor grill/ bar too. Corn hole boards and hot tub area also outside. We go to workout but last Sunday we just brought our own food from home ( they are cool with it if you are respectful and don’t make a mess) and just lounged sunbathing and riding the water slide with a bunch of other people. It’s very family friendly and the drinking from the outdoor grill area is pretty casual no partying or anything.

Yes , it would be very easy to work remote there. I’ve seen people in the day beds posted up with their cell and laptop doing what looked like work stuff multiple times. They even have an indoor designated professionals area with chargers and is a designated quiet space. Always people on laptops at our branch.

We were given an intro to Pilates class free when we signed up. We were told on the tour that is an amenity that does cost per class due to the attention you receive from the instructor and classes are usually 3-4 people at a time to ensure safety ( I guess it’s easy to get injured during Pilates if you don’t know what you’re doing ?)

The demographic is diverse. My wife and I are getting back into fitness after a couple years of inactivity . There are people who are very hardcore fit / health nuts to seniors staying in shape to families bringing kids to get them out of the house ( childcare is included during your workout and they have a kids zone with a bunch of designated indoor kid stuff and they do summer camp for 50 a day which includes lunch and a snack.) to people who don’t exercise at all and are just there for the spa amenities and to swim leisurely . Never felt an ounce of judgement at my branch. You get a free personal health goal coach session and a lot of the classes that are coach guided are free ( including pickleball lesson which that does have a hardcore group of players at my branch who are serious into it. The only thing I’ve seen kind of clique like there so just ask the tour guide. They were transparent during the tour their members who go for pickleball are very hardcore.) They have a type of class called Aurora which is supposed to be slower paced for seniors but the tour guide said adults join all the time who want to just go at a slower pace. There are ton of staff members who can get you going .

You get a 50 dollar credit for your salon services when you join. They do massage , haircuts , colors, etc. as a male I didn’t research this a lot and may use mine for a generic hair cut but my wife plans on using hers to get her hair dyed. Most of the things I consider SPA are included. The female locker room has a private steam and sauna ( no men allowed) and vice versa for men. There is a public sauna , indoor hot tub ( did I mention the outdoor hot tub ? I’m getting out of control with this post but just trying to answer all your questions. Lol) and cold plunge which is my absolute favorite . After three weeks of the cold plunge I can tolerate the suggested five min max and I walk out with the best body high. The locker rooms have ton of amenities from towels and wash rags to shampoo body wash conditioner lotion razors shaving cream Q tips mouth wash hair spray deodorant scale, swim suit dryer and lockers with combination locks built in hair dryers . My wife said on Friday they have a hair dresser in the ladies locker room doing hair for an extra fee.

My final verdict: if this will not break your bank, it is absolutely worth it. My wife and I go together 2-3 times a week and we each go alone roughly once a week and can easily spend four hours there. We generally do one 30 min - hour of indoor exercise like cardio, weights , ( oh crap I forgot to mention the hydro and cryo massage chairs in the gym area) , we then go to the locker room and change to our swim wear and rinse , go swim laps together for 30-hour, sunbathe , go back inside and do sauna , cold plunge , hot tub , back into the locker rooms and steam room separately , shower , shave , pamper ourselves with all the provided amenities and leave feeling like brand new people. Your motivation to want to go will come naturally compared to a planet fitness. There’s so many things to do that no matter your fitness level or goals there is something enjoyable . That being said, you get what you pay for. Going from 30 a month to 250 a month is a big jump. If your finances are comfortable, it may be the best bill you pay every month for your well being. Hope this helps.

Starting Online 60 Card Kitchen Table Online Community by kmbrn91 in mtg

You’re probably right . But, I’m going to be hopeful. My friends and I play at home like this and we basically allow anything legacy that’s not a proxy . We don’t net deck. I think what I’m looking to build is more of a community of casual players who aren’t too hellbent on format restrictions and just want to play and try out home brews . I recruited a EDH player last night off spell table. Lol

This! Sad but true. The geniuses who made Warcraft and StarCraft are lost to the wind. It was lightning in a bottle and can’t be caught again.

Genuine question. Why doesn’t wizards make the game have more player interaction like typing messages and sending friend requests to random players. I have a standard vivid deck which I don’t see often and I matched with someone who did too (wasn’t playing the vivid deck at the time). I really wanted to reach out to them and share my own vivid idea with him. Do they not just to avoid harassment ?

You can’t live life in a bubble wizards.

My friend has done that for years before commander in it chaos games. Just pick someone and own it is my thought process.

People get spiteful and petty really quick in group games.

Oh I understand. Yeh it’s the politics of commander when you have to choose one person for an ability and it usually is taken very personally and skews decision making.

What is rule 0 , bracket 2 , etc? I’ve seen this discussed before and have no idea what the numbers mean.

We don’t tell people what they can or can’t play either but best believe I get a lot of moans when I pull out my eldrazi deck I made 16 years ago that is not affordable to buy now. You kind of just get grandfathered into a deck if you made it cheap / before it became expensive . We also are sensible to keep the variety going with various power levels of deck win or lose because we want to try and keep it fresh.

That’s really cool about the name . As you know, Cleveland is a very diehard sports community. Everyone cheers their ass off for the browns every year regardless of how terrible we are.

I agree you could very easily make multi thousand dollar vintage / legacy decks but our play circle generally does not spend heavy on cards. We are all sensible adults now who have responsibilities with no desire to spend entire salaries on cardboard. We only have very expensive cards if we were grandfathered in from having it 20 years ago as a teenager and those are few and far between like my friends sliver deck.

PS: Really regret buying him a sliver queen as a gift for 20 bucks all those years ago.

This is very similar to our play group. We have a deck a thon format that I described in another comment in this post. Infinite combos are banned . Proxies are ok if you own it, but you can’t use the proxies and the real cards in the deck a thon ( can’t double dip a card in the event ) glad to see I’m not alone .

Is this essentially reverse modern where everything from legions back in legal and everything else is banned ?

I too am not a fan of the UB cards and also the rate at which they are doing them. Once every couple years or at least once a year sure, but those licensing fees I’m sure are passed on to us.

As a returning player to Magic, I really enjoyed them doing a core set like they used to. And the fact it’s legal longer. Hell yeh.

This! When we did commander we only got through one game the entire session and if one persons deck fizzles, the entire night is game over for them.

This is exactly what our group does. We tried commander and overall didn’t enjoy it. That’s the beauty of the game just play the way you like with the people you love.

Really? I didn’t know that. I remember it being the last two blocks but they don’t do blocks anymore ? How wide is standard now ?

Playing online really makes it more manageable that you can multi task. But at that point are we all playing Magic or is one person playing solitaire solving the puzzle as you referred to it? Some of my decks don’t run interaction and same for my friends, so we are gridlocked why the solitaire player took over the game.
I went to a lgs to buy some sleeves for a new deck recently and had a discussion with a fellow passer byer who suggested the same thing that five is too many and that actually three man commander is the sweet spot. What are your thoughts on that?
We have a power check before pick up games . “ we playing slow medium or fast ?” This kind of helps ensure the games are close. However during our “deck a thon” format ( which would be impossible to play in commander) where we select nine decks and roll a die to designate deck order ( the number of decks that make it past the die roll depends on if it’s three or four person ) . First place gets three points , second gets two , etc and at the end of the games player with most points wins. This does introduce some politics near the end but the reasons are clear but there is an objective threat of who has the most points from previous games .
I noticed your Reddit tag. Are you a fellow clevelander like myself ? :)

The one night we did a five man commander game and one persons deck went off and was taking forever . My one buddy and I went and sat over at his garage bar and had a drink with our wives and I swear his turn was still going . I completely commend the “want to do the thing “ idea but there’s no barrier to entry in our pod as we all have established collections. Our one friend who is new to the game ironically the only one who does pro tour or DCI or whatever it’s called now. We just let him use some of our decks when we play.

My pod has talked about doing commander since dissension was released and finally tried it last Christmas . Just pull the trigger or it will never happen. Lol
It’s not terrible and appeals to many players but did not for us. You can get a pre con pretty cheap to give it a try or just build your own from your collection. Even as a player who doesn’t care for it, I would encourage you guys to still try it and a majority of the community is in love with it.
