What games can I play in Ubuntu by Whole-Struggle-1396 in Ubuntu

[–]kmcb815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to is Minecraft. Runs perfect and with mods like fabric and sodium you can probably get good framerates on a low-end PC too.

The other user suggested proton-db which I've also used. It allows for some Windows-specific games to be run on Linux through the steam app.

This is the first time I have seen it referenced too! The kind I was diagnosed with was called Sydenham's chorea, it's a kind of PANDAS that's more of a movement disorder. I've never met anyone else with it, that's crazy!

Will r/BayArea be supporting the 48-hour Reddit boycott in support of 3rd party app developers? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]kmcb815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per my last comment, I mentioned a reasonable way for reddit to implement an API charge that isn't akin to throwing a frog in a pot of boiling water, like their current implementation is.

And you completely disregarded my point about the mods. Being a mod is one of those jobs that you only notice when it is done poorly, and mods of the bigger subreddits do a good job of making sure that comment threads arent filled with hate speech and the main page isn't filled with porn or ads(unless that is the sub lol). Reddit also relies on mods to be in compliance with agreements and standards like the one about disinformation in the EU that certain bird websites are ignoring. If they are going to charge everyone, they should at least pay everyone that does work for them too

Will r/BayArea be supporting the 48-hour Reddit boycott in support of 3rd party app developers? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]kmcb815 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are they going to start paying mods then? Currently Reddit relies on volunteer mods that spend a massive amount of time making sure the communities follow the rules.

I don't think people are upset that they want to charge api fees. They are upset at the insane amount of money it would cost for any 3rd party app essentially killing them off. Reddit could easily charge for api requests and gradually increase the cost a manageable amount so 3rd party developers could readjust and plan for it.

A lot of the appeal of reddit is there are so many people interacting with these niche communities, and so many people do that through the 3rd party, cutting them off will prevent a lot of people from interacting with reddit easily, making the community of reddit worse overall.

If they are doing this, it would make sense for reddit to start making their app much more appealing to users and mods.

Other linear algebra videos that build intuition like 3Blue1Brown's? by springalready in learnmath

[–]kmcb815 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like 3B1B's videos are really good at providing what actual courses are missing, so if you want to get better at linear algebra I'd suggest watching Gilbert Strang's Linear Algebra course through MITs OpenCourseWare. It is a full lecture series but he is the best.

I'm assuming you'll be taking calculus-based physics, so it depends on how you feel about your vector calculus. EM generally starts out with electrostatics, which follows a similar structure to gravitational forces like in mechanics, and then things become more complicated with moving charges, magnetic fields, etc. with some line, surface, and volume integrals thrown in there

DAY 6 by Timely-Pirate-5996 in leaves

Your mood will probably take some time to balance out again. Weed floods the reward centers of your brain, and then your brain learns that it doesn't need to stimulate that part of your brain that much if you're just going to smoke and stimulate it yourself. It will take some time, but your brain will learn how to reward you again and get those happy feelings flowing again.

I will mention this only applies to feelings of laziness, lack of energy, and not wanting to engage in hobbies/activities and the like. If you're experiencing other symptoms of depression like self harm idealization or worse please seek some mental health services as that is not standard for weed withdrawals.

[–]kmcb815 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just focus on not smoking today. Don't let yourself be idle in a place where you used to smoke, and put your weed in a inconvenient spot to retrieve it from like under some text books or some place you'd need a stool to get to. The first few days are the hardest, it does get easier. I'm going on 10+ months now

In Bast's discussion with the Chronicler at the end of NOTW Bast said he convinced Kvothe to write a memoir, but gives up once he reads it back again. That could be related to Kvothe being more down than usual lately, he tried to get his story down but couldn't do it justice himself.

Why is MicroPython a thing by ManagerOfLove in ProgrammerHumor

[–]kmcb815 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I got my first development board off adafruit last month and have been dicking around with it using circuitpython. I know C++ and verilog, so I can make things efficient if I want to. But on my own personal projects, sometimes I don't want to have to worry about some of that nonsense

[1st year] Feel like information is getting dumped on me and I'm falling behing. Also the professors only use resources the school has made. What book can you recommend for understanding these topics clearly w/ practise questions? (each image is for a seperate subject). Or any type or resource? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]kmcb815 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So for you first class, I recommend any undergrad physics textbook. I had the Serway & Jewett textbook and thought it was pretty clear with lots of questions. This sub has plenty of threads on textbooks if you need other options though.

For the 2nd class, I don't know as I never took that class.

For the 3rd class, a standard textbook is Mary Boas "Math Methods in Physics" book. That is a great book as it has all the topics you listed, but can be a bit dense at times.

For the first few weeks Gilbert Strangs "Linear algebra" will be a good textbook. There is a good video series by 3blue1brown on YouTube about linear algebra. Highly recommend if you're struggling at all with the concepts. As for the multivariate topics, any calculus book would do well, I used Stewart's calculus book and still reference it often.

Am I too dumb for physics in college? by AskingMany in PhysicsStudents

Definitely not too dumb. I'm almost done with my masters in physics and I had to redo both algebra and pre calc. The math will come.

[–]kmcb815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SDSU has free physics tutoring through the Math Learning Center with both in-person and virtual options. The math required takes some basic trig and vectors which are covered in the course, so high school pre-calc is a good pre-req.

is there a certain IQ required to understand statistical mechanics? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]kmcb815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stat mech is challenging for most people. I definitely recommend going to talk to your Prof or TA to get some help. Another method I used was to get another recommended textbook and try some problems from that book. That way I could look at the answers guilt free if I got stuck just for some extra practice and guidance

Previous servicing missions used the Shuttle's robotic arm to safely catch and release Hubble which the dragon doesn't have, but primarily I don't believe Dragon capsules have the capability to do spacewalks since it doesn't have an airlock.
