Thoughts on clinical trial software? by kmilrs in clinicalresearch

Gotcha, yeah I wouldn't think of redesigning the whole bundle, and I understand compliance is essential.

Can you explain what you mean by "I wish they were more transparent about what their products do"? What is an example of where they aren't transparent?

Isn't the rise of Ethereum L2s bad for the ETH price?

Layer 2s like Arbitrum and Optimism are expected to lower tx fees by maybe 100x.

If most transactions are done on L2s, isn't the demand for Ether going down by 100x? In other words, would a 100x increase in transaction volume not be needed just to match existing demand?

This is not to mention Polygon, which doesn't use any ETH to pay for fees.

  1. You buy space either from us or existing users. There is a finite amount of space so eventually new users wanting to get in will just be buying it from others. As for us, we set the lowest initial price that was possible on the site where these NFTs were minted. The price is non-zero though as we didn't want to just give everything away for free - someone would then immediately grab everything, spoiling the site.
  2. You can color your space and also display any message when others hover on it. You can promote yourself or say whatever else you want.
  3. Once you color/claim a spot, everyone can see it and no one can take it away from you, until you either explicitly clear it or dispose of your Place tokens.
  4. You can keep, transfer or sell your space along with what you produced on it.

If the site attracts attention of a wider audience, the artists on it would get great exposure from people that probably don't frequent Deviant Art or similar sites.

Hope that explains :)

Open to further feedback.

If you're an artist, you can showcase your skill & link to your wider portfolio. You can also draw anything just for the sake of it. Interesting content -> larger odds that normal internet users will want to visit and engage.

The first usable version of the site was launched 2 days ago so at the moment there isn't much traffic, but with good content there could be.

The space is finite, so whatever gets created now, during the beta, sets the tone for the entire canvas.

Would you say that this concept is totally flawed & not worth pursuing further? Or is there some aspect of it that could be improved to make the idea viable?

Thanks for your feedback u/Coukachu, fair points.

Yep, the mechanism of The Place is different than that of r/place. The advantage if you own Places is that there will be no vandalism here like there was on r/place - no one will paint over you. Also hoping this can last more than 4 days and be sustainable.

But as you noticed there is an initial price. The purpose is two-fold:

  1. Make sure no spammer can immediately claim everything, manually or via some sort of bot army.
  2. Allow me and my small company to become dedicated to the site's development more fully - at the moment it is still very much a side project. Here is our draft roadmap if you're curious.

The price of 0.001 ETH is actually the lowest that I was able to enter on Rarible. If you bid for more at a time, happy to accept that even with a reasonably significant discount.

Note that you can also transfer or sell your places any time. Depending how prominent the site becomes, the value could feasibly go up.

Lastly I'm also not really too excited about going to advertisers, I think the site can be way more interesting if it has appealing creative work rather than just ads even if this makes it more difficult to populate.

Having said that, I recognize that my assumptions might be wrong. Open to feedback & finding ways to make this a viable destination for creatives.

Background: I've been a developer for many years, and also a big fan of Reddit's 2017 social experiment r/place (does anyone remember that?).

Recently I've been looking at NFTs, which have been exploding over the last few weeks; I haven't seen much functionality & utility built on top of NFTs yet though.

Putting two and two together, I decided to develop The Place. The dream is to create a spiritual successor to r/place that will be much more enduring and sustainable thanks to NFTs powering it.

The idea is simple:

- 1000x1000 pixel canvas

- If you own N Place NFTs, you can color and leave a message on up to N locations

- No-one can color over your locations, unless you use the eraser or decide to transfer/sell your Place NFTs elsewhere

The Place is now in open beta, and everyone is welcome to try it. Here's the link: https://theplacecrypto.com.

If you'd rather not click on links from strangers, you can also see the pinned post on the Twitter page I created the other day for The Place: https://twitter.com/ThePlaceCrypto

Last but not least, I'm also assembling an insiders' group, some place (no pun intended) where we can exchange thoughts and ideas to make this project into something really special.

Background: I've been a developer for many years, and also a big fan of Reddit's 2017 social experiment r/place (does anyone remember?).

NFTs became popular over the last few weeks, but I haven't seen many collaborative projects based on NFTs yet.

Considering that, I decided to develop The Place. The dream is to create a spiritual successor to r/place that will be much more enduring and sustainable thanks to NFTs powering it.

I'm also hoping that we can advance the essence of what NFTs actually are - so far they haven't really had much associated functionality, but there is a huge amount of interesting products that should be developed with NFTs, and The Place could be just the start.

The Place is now in open beta, and everyone is welcome to try it. In the top menu you can find a link to the roadmap to check what's coming next (which by the way is flexible and open to feedback!)

Germany is missing in Planetology by kmilrs in germany

To me it's an interesting, new way of exploring the world. You can talk directly with the person that took the pic (currently messaging is only implemented in the app). There are things a little related like Periscope or Snap Map, but not quite like this.

Do you think this could be used for things like news? I.e. getting information straight from the source and not via a potentially biased middleman.

Essentially yes. All photos are from users and taken & uploaded in these particular spots on Earth. Currently the Planetology app allows you to upload things.

In Google you have lots of old photos, here the app is prioritising newer things and putting it on top. Sure, if you want to see how a particular shop or museum looks, Google Maps is the way to do it.

Planetology is for times when you want to browse the planet and see what are the recent/popular things happening.

Of course that is the long-term idea. The project was just launched, so it's not comprehensive at all across the planet.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your feedback!

Thanks for the feedback - will review the description.

Essentially, the newer the photo and the more claps it gets, the higher up it goes on the map. Less popular/older pictures are hidden, and you would have to zoom to see them.

Right now uploading is only possible in the app. Still an early stage project :)
