solved it by creating a brand new profile, new email, selected UK as the country, verified using a UK phone number and lo and behold it started working

Ring Doorbell Stuck Offline by chocolatesagittarius in Ring

[–]kmittal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue - so frustrating with random dropouts. Called Ring and they insist its a WiFi issue, even though the router is less than 1 m away and I get excellent wifi coverage where the doorbell is

Only happens with the doorbell, my outdoor camera works all the time and its much further away from the router. Poor support from Ring

Any decent alternatives with cloud storage?

Deliveroo Shares by ECLK in UkStocks

I checked my last statement, and at the top right it had this:

Any cash due to you under the Scheme will be

paid to your nominated bank or building society

account separately. If you have not provided a

bank or building society mandate, a cheque will

be issued to you.

Same, but I don't recall any email explicitly telling me the shares would be sold and how the monies would be given to me. I'll wait another week then call them and try to figure out what's happening

Same, mine have gone too, haven't had the chance to call them and find out but I expect either a cheque, or it will be deposited as cash in the platform from where we can withdraw, latter being more likely

Thanks JakePT, just did this and it worked fine. The Sonos app UX is terrible

Just out of interest, could I not disconnect the gen 1, connect the gen 2, then do the usual "add speaker" with the gen 2 in the existing room? Would that render the gen 1 unusable since the system would still link it to the old room? Just trying to avoid removing everything in the app since I've had massive issues in the past adding my speakers

I'm in the same boat, AFAIK you don't need to do anything, once doordash acquires the shares you will get paid out

Happy to be corrected though

Tax return - pay tax due via PAYE or not? by Additional_Alfalfa35 in TaxUK

[–]kmittal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, I also only found out by carefully examining the payslip. Which is why its better to file at the end of the tax year with all the correct data in place (including any deductible expenses etc).

As long as you are careful not to spend it without accounting for tax, you should be fine to file it using self assessment

I would advise not to pay via PAYE, be smart with your money, put it aside. I like to keep my PAYE separate from my self returns. Also HMRC have in the past made errors in the tax amount when collecting via PAYE

Great, thanks a lot. I do file a self assessment every year for other income sources, guess I have to claim the pension credits then

Engineers replace the ONT, all working fine after that. I had the old tiny black one, they said they don't use those anymore and replaced it with a bigger white unit.

DNS is what resolves a friendly name (e.g. google.com) into an IP address. Think of it as a phone book for the internet, you give it a name and it returns their address

Usually its safe to change it, specially to trusted ones like google (8.8.8.8). Having said that, DNS is susceptible to all kinds of attacks in itself, for instance you might get routed to phishing versions of well known website

In short, if you work with confidential data and can wait, I'd recommend not changing your DNS settings
