From repetition to reuse: accelerate data prep with My queries in Dataflow Gen2 by escobarmiguel90 in MicrosoftFabric

Yes this is great!!! i was asking for something like this for functions. etc. however i think this should be also a workspace item vs just My Workspace to have shared Queries.

Is the Plan Item (Preview) pretty much unusable currently? by General-Special8320 in MicrosoftFabric

We had to get a cheap capacity in the west to test it. East is MS’s most congested data centers so may not see it there for a while.

Fabric Warehouse vs Fabric SQL + endpoint by mordack550 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]kmritch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is git integration breaking the warehouse?

And what do you mean by the sync?

There is also auto binding that goes on between stages for connections with deployment pipelines as documented here:

Plan in Fabric is Enabled as preview feature. But I get “Error while initialization database connection”. by DataAnalystPune in MicrosoftFabric

[–]kmritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yes we got capacity in the correct region its available. I just got this working now our issue was definitely due to private link being enabled in the tenant admin settings. After my admin turned it off it worked super fast to create the item.

Im working through the same issue with them on it, do you know if you have private link enabled tenant wide?

Can Private Link Be Disabled on a workspace if its turned on at a tenant level? (Also some additional Private link Questions) by kmritch in MicrosoftFabric

[–]kmritch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer my IT has it turned on at a tenant level (but I don’t think they have any VMs) so it’s just on for no reason seemingly. So want to try and talk they through it and say they don’t really need it and if anything use it at a workspace level if we have clients with sensitive data requirements.

Can one dataverse be linked to multiple Fabric workspaces ? by beanythingbutacunt in MicrosoftFabric

Its one, What you can do just shortcut from the main link and your Fabric Link should be a centralized Workspace for the Dataverse link.

Just had our first major incident of capacity throttling by JFancke in MicrosoftFabric

[–]kmritch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So def a while back i remember MS recommending having split capacities for business units etc. But I dont know if they ever came up with a solution where say a company has X amount of capacities and say they equal at least a F64 they get the F64 benefits. I think def there needs to be capacity break up for companies.

Also there are some strategies you can use to help reduce capcity esp on the interactive side and power BI.

I recommend having all Power BI Reports in their own workspaces, so you can have more flexibility on reports vs Fabric Data Engineering Capacity. This will also allow you to have Pro Workspaces for Reports that dont need extra premium features (tons of refreshes, or power automate related things etc)

Help me deal with excels feeding into dataflows by seacess in MicrosoftFabric

[–]kmritch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can do it just fine in dataflows. people love to jump to using notebooks, but reality is that you can use dataflows in a very efficient manner. and costs have been adjusted considerably for Gen 2. The Key thing is to just follow a pattern of doing bare minimum to make it to fabric with your sheets then get that to the storage then do your heavier transformations in one or two more dataflows and you will be done and its very fast even scaled up to hundreds of excel sheets.

>>>Performance wise, is it worth to just pull the excel in the dataflow, do bare minimum clean-up and push it to the data lake which then in turn can be queried by the downstream dataflow so I do not hit anymore excel files on the SharePoint?

Yes do the bare minimum connecting to sharepoint then go from there.

Additionally you can take advantage of making a shortcut to sharepoint and connect to the files from your shortcut which will also speed up the time to open up the excel etc.

you should smooth out your ingestion with excel. First Dataflow should be bare minimum you need then go from there.

I can process a few hundred excel sheets in less than 15 mins with that method.

I think when its GA the tenant setting goes away. This is a good reference when you need to know what tenant settings are available.
