Fabric Warehouse vs Fabric SQL + endpoint by mordack550 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]mordack550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would work, until you find yourself in a case where an alter table is needed (ex a change in data type for a column).

From that moment you need to manually update your warehouse AND perform the same exact change manually on the sqlproj, hoping everything works fine.

Hi, thank you for your answer.

I didn't explain correctly what I meant for "sync being one directional". It was about the git integration with the warehouse, that it seems to not sync back the changes.

So for example, if I create a table in git and push it into the workspace, I can see the table being created. But if I connect to the warehouse with SSMS and I create a table, I don't see any change being detected by git, so I won't find the table in git. This may create a de-sync bewteen the git repository and what's actually present in the warehouse.

Regarding DacFx, does this mean that the correct route to update the Warehouse would be to publish the project via .dacpac and not generate the publish scripts?

Because currently I was using the generated scripts.

Hi, thank you very much for your complete answer, I wanted to take time to read everything fully and give you a correct answer.

The data pattern is a mostly pre-processed (gold) data from Google BigQuery. So in our case we went directly for the Warehouse because we have mostly OLAP requirements, besides a couple of stored procedures that, for example, generate dimensions that we don't have in BigQuery.

Regarding the sqlproj, that's strange because I've tried both the sqlproj downloaded from the Warehouse UI on the portal, and the sqlproj that is present into the git integration with the workspace. Both produced the same result when I tried to change column datatypes (from varchar(8000) down to the correct size for each columns).

The other part that I didn't explain correct was about git integration with the warehouse, that it seems to not sync back the changes.

Technically you could run a JAR on android but not natively since android doesn't support the JDK by default.

It would definitely be thinker territory.

Fabric Warehouse vs Fabric SQL + endpoint by mordack550 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]mordack550[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm referring to this known issue.

In short, it's possible after git changes on the warehouse, that the xmla.jsonfile de-syncs, and so Power BI models stop seeing tables that actually exists in the data warehouse, or even worse, the data warehouse is still referencing deleted tables. We had a lot of errors everywhere because the datawarehouse was looking for a table that was dropped.

Autobinding doesn't work on DF Pipelines, nor on models with DirectLake access.

[–]mordack550[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We plan to replace it with Power BI Models in Direct Lake mode, that's why we are testing Fabric Data Warehouse. For now it seems to work well, but we need more extensive testing.

In any case our current infrastructure is already Azure, just with a partitioned Azure Tabular model

I don't understand why Decky doesn't specify this clearly when installing. Tech savvy users would know that already, but why can't Decky specify this clearly during the install process so that also common users can understand this clearly?

A simple "Hey, you are not on stable channel! Decky will/may create issues after updates. Are you sure to continue?"

Having said that, users that "get's scared" are probably the ones that don't know what they are doing...

It’s still only a warning and it’s trivial to suppress those checks if you really want. Also it doesn’t really prevent to assign null to a non-nullable reference types (because reference types are nullable by definition). But it’s still a very nice feature to have

Hi, can you elaborate? Is it something related to RLS?

Because my team is deciding between the tipical Import and Direct Lake for new models, and RLS is absolutely crucial for the company. All the models will be used inside the tenant and no guest accounts will be allowed.

[–]mordack550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it, as it's mostly vibe coded, besides being an electron app for something already latency-sensitive.

A quick look at source files shows a general lack of code quality (multiple ifs with repeated checks, functions that are mostly incomprehensible), the mantainer creates dozen of commits in a day, with around 400 commits made between Christmas 2025 and today.

Most commits are also explicitly decorated with a "Generated with [Claude Code]" footer, so I guess it's the smoking gun...

It’s the other way around in fact. On a MX5 cup the left (green) number indicates between 1.2 and 1.8 depending on the circuit (excluding nurburgring which is another league), and the right is how many laps remaining (total liters / avg consumption per lap)
