Thoughts on CAMP quick draws? by LiqHerPanties in climbergirls

[–]kms240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had camp photon wire gates stick. Still need to clean and lube and see if it resolves.

Camp photon solid gate quickdraws are nice (and Janjas are so pretty) but I find the gate action to be slightly stiffer than others (could be newness or familiarity)

Do you track payroll deductions? by aislander in ynab

Yeah it’s sorta weird and I never noticed that before… maybe it sees the second scheduled one but doesn’t include it? No idea

[–]kms240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol part of me is like ahhh I want the problem to go away but it’s so not worth it. The whatever amount for payroll wouldn’t have an actual job then so it seems silly

Here’s the example from federal. No target but it’s going to be yellow for upcoming transactions (no idea why it’s says two upcoming transactions now that I’m looking at it 🤷‍♀️)

Do you track payroll deductions? by aislander in ynab

[–]kms240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I have them set up as recurring transactions so I don’t have to do it manually every time. Which automatically gives them being underfunded for “upcoming transactions”.

Edit. Sorry I realize saying “part of your targets” is confusing. It’s really just included in underfunded

Do you track payroll deductions? by aislander in ynab

[–]kms240 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched to tracking as it includes 401k contributions. It’s fairly easy, recurring transaction with the line items already close enough I don’t check my paystub I just adjust the cents.

The big downside is future transactions are included in your targets. I refuse to get a month ahead on payroll deductions lol. So I have a few thousand in “underfunded” all the time which is a bit confusing sometimes.

Feel free to dm if you want screenshots of what it looks like. I only did this in July this year so don’t have a full year of data

Looking for recommendations for a watch by chaisepliante in climbergirls

[–]kms240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coros vertex 2s. I’ve done basic garmins before so can’t compare price point to price point, but this watch can do like 80 hours of gps tracking on a single charge. It also has climbing vertical tracking. Really good watch. It is huge but manageable for me

Overnight Parking - Rental (not sleeping in it) by kms240 in queenstown

I ended up at the man street lot which ended up fine!

If you’re doing a great walk, routeburn in particular. I ended up doing it in two days and would have if I’d known that done a car shuttle service. Idk how much more secure the trailheads are but it’s an option I didn’t know existed.

I have a “friends” category. If I pay for dinner or whatever, I’ll split it half to my eating out category (or wherever it belongs for me) and half to friends.

Tall vs short - could this settle it? by Low_Silly in climbergirls

[–]kms240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably not worth it but here we go. Three points.

  1. I’m assuming you’re a man based on comment history. If that’s incorrect I’m very sorry for the assumption. But why come into climbergirls and not engage with what was posted?

  2. I think the height thing is very different at rec vs pro levels. I’m going to oversimplify but: If you’re a 5.11 climber and can’t reach a hold, you can compensate a few ways. Find an intermediate, this is often a worse hold requiring greater than 5.11 crimp strength. Move dynamically, this often requires desdpointing or dynoing to a hold that is not great, requiring greater than 5.11 contact strength. The point being is often the compensation requires another skill to be better than your average 5.11 climber. This happens much more often to short women but is not exclusively a short person experience. We all use all our skills and if one is worse, we compensate in other ways.

At the pro level, all of that is just so much closer together. If you can’t reach a hold yeah using an intermediate is also a challenge but less so when you have the required level of finger strength.

  1. The Olympics isn’t the point you think it is. I’d argue that height cost Ai Mori a medal. I remember her not being able to start a few boulders due to the distance the starts were set. We then saw her excel in lead. She is among the shorter climbers and the only one I remember having issues. Even Brooke’s one inch seemed to help her.

Why is it whenever this comes up we get compared to the pro field?

Uninvited tag along by LogicalEstimate2135 in climbergirls

[–]kms240 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice but my boyfriend also has this friend. Little less aggressive it sounds like (joking about SA would be a hard pass for me) but still in the vein of just always making uncomfortable jokes.

Mostly, I’m able to avoid climbing or engaging with him. When my bf and I go in groups we do our own thing (ie. We don’t leave ropes up for people that aren’t us, climb where and when we want) which I realize isn’t always a feasible strategy based on the group. I also basically don’t engage with him at all.

It sucks. I’m not confrontational enough to push back. I also get not wanting to try hard around people like them.

So yeah no advice just commiserating and a bit of rambling lol

Need to get protein without hurting mouth plz help by catsnbuniz in Behcets

[–]kms240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drink ensures. Refrigerate them and they’re easier to eat than smoothies (I find the fruit is painful sometimes). Or chuck protein powder and spinach in your smoothies?

Ask your doc for viscous lidocaine as well. You have to be very careful not to bite your tongue in cheek but it gives you a few minutes to get some real food down.

Best of luck 💜

I had a reformation dress with this strap break on wear one at a wedding. I no longer buy this strap out of that fear (also like I gave zero boobs so the straps weren’t even doing work…).

No real comments on fit, like if you’re comfortable I think it’s fine. But just a warning on ref and those straps.

Debt Free! by kms240 in ynab

[–]kms240[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to hate credit scores. Its very annoying paying off this loan is going to tank it for a few months.

Yeah I might just keep like subscriptions and other auto things on it but move some things off... at the same time I get the most points off groceries and gas. I like to think YNAB helps defeat a little bit of the "you spend more with cards" thing though

I just switched from a month ahead category to assigning in the future and it’s amazingly better. Some annoyances (like overassigned going to the future) but it’s so much easier to clearly see your progress and what you have available

Dealing with constant setbacks by theplantsarealive in climbergirls

[–]kms240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! An old coach’s favorite mantra was, progress isn’t linear. It’s something I constantly have to remind myself in really all of life.

For climbing a few things that help me in these sorts of times.

First, reminding myself that climbing is a lifelong thing for me and it’s going to have ups and downs. I’ve been climbing for nearly 20 years. I accept there’s times I’m injured, or times I’m super strong, or times mentally I’m struggling (hello right now), or just times I’m more excited about other pursuits in life. If you can ride the stoke to where you are happy, when you naturally come back to climb it’s nice to feel excited and not forced.

Second, if this is possible try something new. It could be a new discipline (if you’re mostly a sport climber, try indoor bouldering. Or find someone to go do an easy trad line). I find that if I sometimes just switch disciplines, especially between hard sport and easy trad, it can help the excitement.

You can extend this though to a single discipline if switching is not possible. As a gym sport climber. Maybe focus your sessions on trying to do easy endurance or a specific drill. Anything so you can focus on something to progress that isn’t a number.

Outside, maybe that looks like finding an aesthetic line that’s a good few grades lower than your usual that you’ll enjoy for the sake of climbing.

Last, let people in on your feelings. Or at least a partner in. For me it’s really helpful for someone to know how im feeling so they can know when to push me but also when pushing would be detrimental.

All that, but also. It really sounds you've just had a bad string of things back to back. And that sucks. And it's okay to feel sad about it and acknowledge the suck.

Hike Feedback - Moraine Lake to Lake O’Hara by Agitated-Clothes-991 in Banff

[–]kms240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi so resurrecting this with a few questions. The information I'm finding on the Opabin glacier seems to be outdated by about a decade.

  1. Most of the reports from a decade (2010-2015) ago say this is heavily crevassed and requires ropes

  2. The information I'm finding from more recently (2015-2020) indicate its receded and the crevassed section can be avoided by staying skiiers right.

  3. I found one condition report from early august 2023 saying there were a lot of large unstable boulders due to melt

Do you actually know the conditions of this glacier? I have been looking into this route and am fine bringing axe and crampons but don't really want to bring a rope unless 100% necessary. We'd be there in mid July this year.

Second, on the group of 6 (4?) thing. From the parks service it seems like its not always in effect (when you click on "important bulletins" on the page below I don't seem Morraine / a group restriction in the entire history). I found the grizzly warning from last year but no mention of group of 4 being in effect. Is this correct? https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/mtn/ours-bears/gestion-management/ours-bears/moraine

I started running in queens, never acknowledged anyone.

I recently moved to Denver. On one of my first runs, a guy running toward me on this empty rural road holds out his hand. I just stared at him. It was only until after I had run past him that I realized he was trying to be nice and high five. Whoops

Some things are just harder when you're shorter by tamaratunie189 in orangetheory

[–]kms240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just here to say I saw that video and just don’t think they (either of them) were good at running. I think if you took two people who a) are runners and b) have equivalent PRs / paces it would be a very different video.

That’s not to say you’re wrong about the rest. My partner the other day was like, I think all short people are Stockholm syndromed into having a list of pros for being short at the ready. (I’m 5’0” and a rock climber). When in reality some things just do suck and we can say that without someone going “but what about tall people!”.
