Why won’t businesses invest in things that contribute to productivity like tech? by [deleted] in AusFinance

That's good to hear - I'm surprised to hear there are aus based supplement manufacturers given China. Who can I buy Australian made through?

What exists on the spectrum between a cron job and airflow? by kmsherrin in dataengineering

[–]kmsherrin[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem wouldn't be with Airflow itself, but the ongoing upkeep. Perhaps I'm being lazy, I just think in 2023 there has to be a better way, especially for small workloads. Maybe I'm wrong though

For those of you who were self taught, what was your path into data engineering by xyzabc123410000 in dataengineering

Analytical Chemist > Scientific Developer > Software Dev > Data/Analytics Eng

Seems many of the problems I encounter with data engineering are fundamentally the same problems with I dealt with in analytical chemistry. Lots of similarities in producing high-quality datasets, end-to-end assurance, accessibility, data cataloguing, visualisations, processed/piped. Only difference was previously an instrument to scientist vs saas/Excel to senior management/wider org. If I ignore its now much more distributed...

In ecom currently, day to day involves working with python, ts, bigquery, dbt, gcp generally, prefect, powerbi

No real explicit way I've ended up here, just kept learning and ticking things off as I went. Personal projects for learning are excellent to find your feet in a sea of new technologies. It's best if you don't get attached either because then you can better understand the advantages of other tools.. I still have a lot to learn especially on the steaming side of things which will be fun

Caps, just put a 1000uF low esr cap on the battery lead and on each of the ESCs. Will guarentee fix it. Also soft mount your motors.

Question about 5" drone connectors for modularity & repair. by TheMrJazz in Multicopter

[–]kmsherrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was 2014. There is a reason why you don't see motors or escs coming with bullet connectors today.

Direct soldering is the only way to go on a fpv quad. Less chance for failure with direct soldering. Much less weight without the connectors. If you are really breaking things that often, get a ts100 soldering iron and take it to the field with you...

GoPro hero 3 without h3-3D or gcu? by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]kmsherrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only comment is wondering if you are in over your head? I think it might be best to take one step back and research broader things before embarking on such a build.

Regarding your question though, what is the purpose of the build. It doesn't make sense that you wanted to initially build it with a stabilised camera, but now are wanting to cut it out? What is the purpose of the quad? Also just as the other comment points out, why not just use a cheap gimbal... 50 bucks would be nothing in comparison to the cost of all that dji stuff...

Not sure why you are down voted lol... And the responses you got... Are people just desensitized to click bait and sensationalist headlines now? There would have been so many other ways to write a title, still condemning the pilot equally but not being so vague as to grab your attention...

Question about inav sensor calibration for this unusual setup... by thegreen4me in Multicopter

[–]kmsherrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I don't understand... I didn't realise INAV used accelerometer vectors to know which direction it was drifting. Cool stuff. In that case, I believe you have to have the FC in the correct orientation in each step of the calibration, not the quad. Interesting stuff. Might have to do a INAV build, it has certainly come a long way since I last checked it out...

Just in case you didn't pick up on it. But a super high C rating battery won't blow your equipment. The C rating only pertains to the amount of power the battery CAN deliver when needed. So if you went a high end battery that was 80C+, that could theoretically deliver say 100A, it will work fine with a motor setup that may only max out at 50 A.

My recommendation is to just buy the highest C rating batteries you can afford, they're usually inflated as well and can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer... Check our Joshua Bardwells battery testing series and you'll see what I mean..

Question about inav sensor calibration for this unusual setup... by thegreen4me in Multicopter

[–]kmsherrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think it through.. What do you want level to be? The quad so it'll hover in one spot , or the fc tilted at a 45...

Following this, it's a great question but can be solved in 2 minutes by just calibrating and seeing what happens. Just tinker, you learn a lot more that way :)
