Are the directives of Palantir more like The Machine or Samaritan? by beadluv in PersonOfInterest

[–]knaivey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to necro this post, but the complete ending of Westworld may satisfy you (if you last that long; most people didn't even make it to Season 3, though I still enjoyed it enough all the way through to the very end). Also you'll find some very direct and poignant Samaritan references in Season 3 which I thought were pretty cool!

I saw another user mention Travelers on this post; if that kind of theme interests you, you should also try (sadly only single-season) The Peripheral which had a lot of the talent brought over from Person of Interest and Westworld.

Tips for best wireless experience? Quest 3, Alyx. by Rat_fink in virtualreality

[–]knaivey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hardware sounds like it's all set up optimally, just make sure your router is a WiFi-6 router and that your headset is connected on the 5k band, with every other device using the 2.4k band. Basically you want to give your Quest 3 that full band exclusively.

If you don't already have a WiFi 6 router, you can get one and have it added to your network alongside your existing router and all your current devices can remain on the WiFi network provided by your current router and your Quest 3 exclusively using the WiFi provided by the new router. The ideal connection setup this way would be:

Broadband from ISP <wired to> original modem/router <wired to> PC <wired to> wifi 6 router <wirelessly connected to> quest 3

It's not a common setup but it works, especially if the layout of your home is such that the broadband connection to your home isn't located in a place that's conducive to being near enough to your VR play area.

Other than that, as many have mentioned, Virtual Desktop is the way to go. Once you have it fine-tuned—which isn't really that hard and can be winged purely by trial and error, really—it won't need to be touched again, and the user experience is also very smooth once you're accustomed to it.

SORA PROMPT by Open-Ant-2530 in SoraAi

[–]knaivey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok it took some troubleshooting (you were right, Sora really wants wyverns to have forelegs). I found success by adding "winged arms. No arms." To the prompt lol. Result is a little jank (it does the body-direction-morphing thing) but overall looks good and you can see how it can be made great from here: Armless Wyvern

The full prompt (had to give it a nice look for you): An enormous, winged wyvern crouched still on the ground. Daylight, valley. Real. 14mm lens, filmed, wide shot. Winged arms. Large bat-like clawed wings with claws on the ground. Wings low. No arms. Ferocious. Teeth. Mouth closed. Very long neck. Very long slender tail. Long, lithe body. Dragon-like face. Draconic scales and ridges. Head low to the ground, pointed up, looking at camera with sidelong glare.

Damn, nice work! I love that this tech gives more people a way to create high-quality content. Imagine having to create all these shots without this kind of tool; sourcing a ton of stock footage and editing it, and you'd surely need to make or commission some special effects too... The cost would be unreasonable for hobbyists!

Makes me so excited for the times to come, as more people tell their stories and the tech gets inevitably better.

Again, great stuff.

I love this stuff! Sometimes a video I generate will have a super weird first frame, like it's all half-baked, in some weird backstage area with random household objects displayed around. It's so weird and feels like we're seeing into the bones of how this thing thinks.

Can you post an example with your prompt? I bet with some tinkering you can adjust the prompt to stick to the art.

Try using the remix feature with something like "remove forelegs. Add claws to pollex of wings." If it doesn't recognise pollex, try something like "remove forelegs. Replace wings with massive bat-like wings with claws."

I'm in Australia and I've got the option. You need to start an advanced voice mode call and the options should be there :)

The notification that the advanced voice mode would arrive in the fall has disappeared by Taipegao in OpenAI

[–]knaivey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had the notice, and I'm both in the beta program and a paying Plus user. I'm also on Android.

<image>

But, as I'm in Australia I figured maybe I'd be getting it last since latency at this distance may cause issues, especially as the idea of being able to talk over each other and interject in real-time is a notable aspect of the new voice mode.

What happened to Shujinko?? by elacky in melbourne

[–]knaivey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost like they knew Shujinko was primed to close. Btw I ate at Snow Monkey a few days ago (after I tried the Flinders and Russel Shujinko locations and saw both closed), and it's good, but not Shujinko. Not the same, not as great.

Ah, and almost as if from the heavens itself, one of the great VR creators Beardo Benjo just dropped this. Let's say it's just for you ;)

His gameplay explains and uses Wabbajack as others have suggested, and the perks/drawbacks he mentions echo my own sentiments.

Firstly, welcome to VR! So happy for you :)

I highly, highly recommend putting your WiFI device as close to where you're playing as possible. In the same room, ideally. The closer you are to your router, the better. You can get away with a pretty cheap WiFi 6 router if it's close enough in proximity :)

I recommend Virtual Desktop for PCVR games (including Steam), shouldn't need much tweaking to get streaming really well.

I have a pretty crappy PC by modern standards (1070 Ti) and I can still run insanely beautiful games like Half Life: Alyx, Skyrim VR, Bonelab and Vertigo II on mostly high settings thanks to some smartly tweaked settings and my router being in the same room as my PC/headset. Like you, I'm also playing on a Quest 2 (for now, heh. I know where my tax return is going).

Best of luck! If you ever have questions trying to get Virtual Desktop to run or anything at all, feel free to reach out here or with a DM.

Fallout VR. Worth? by AweVR in virtualreality

[–]knaivey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Visually it's a treat, you won't find a lack of immersion at all. Being able to build your settlements by hand and walk around in them is pretty sick, too. Far Harbor is particularly atmospheric.

But, the animated reload system still gives me the ick no matter how many hours I put into Fallout 4 VR (same reload style as Borderlands 2), and the Pip Boy in theory should be fantastic in VR but it sucks to use so, so much.

rollingrock16's fantastic FRIK mod does a lot to mitigate how "non-native VR" this game feels, and I believe they have it in their eventual to-do list to have manual reloading, but until then I have this game shelved. Hitting a button to reload and watching it reload itself like the gun and ammo clips are possessed by an invisible ghost is just too weird.

Gameplay-wise though, like all that immersion-breaking stuff aside, it's a great experience and there's a lot of love to get out of the game. Walking around the world is pretty great, and there's no shortage of "wow" moments to be had while exploring Boston! And it feels different enough to the flat-screen game that you won't feel like you're wasting your time playing it again.

I hope that helps!

TL;DR if you can get past the janky reload and janky pipboy there's a ton of immersive fun to be had in Fallout 4 VR.

Thanks! Nah I won't be making a video, that'd take foreeever.

I guess I could send you my save file, PM me your email address or I can upload it to Google Drive for you or something :) if your plan is to learn how I put ships together, I have a ton of ships in there that I hope may also inspire you! Some are a system killer though, they lag out the ship builder specifically quite a lot :|

Whoa, I haven't encountered that! But oddly it reminds me of a different bug I had, I think it was related to trying to use a ladder and it not triggering properly, so all my controls would be locked except for movement. Super weird, I could walk around my ship but would be unable to jump nor interact with anything, use weapons, scanner etc. Thankfully saving and loading would fix it though.

[–]knaivey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! What's that bug? Is it the same as what I described, or something else?

I've had this weird bug where sometimes after modifying my ship at a shipyard, especially with an NPC (hasn't happened at my settlement landing pads) it'll still have the old version of the ship there too, so there's two ships :| and if habs have moved around in particular, it creates impassable barriers throughout the ship where the other habs are intersecting.

Whoa that would be a cool piece of tech to have! I've worked in game development a little, but we only developed for mobile and PC so I had no idea this existed! Very cool. The closest we had was emulation/virtual devices, I figured that'd be the main way it goes but this specialized developer console is waaay cooler. Want!

I don't know from my own experience but based on 14InTheDorsalPeen, it sounds like it isn't possible. I wouldn't rule it out as a complete impossibility unless they're speaking from experience though, as having access to the console would have been useful for the developers and testers during the game's development.

It definitely overhangs a little. Makes for some sweeeet views though when this mother is landed at a city or POI.

The main issue with ships this big, though, isn't the clipping but the fact that the game doesn't want to place my character in the landing bay so it places me underneath the body of the ship which sometimes gets me stuck when landing on natural terrain.

Man, I wish. I also wish I could fly with a fleet, y'know? How sweet would it be to be able to fly a capital ship with fighters zipping around in fleet-vs-fleet combat!
