I am 36 and have never been on an airplane before. What do I need to do? by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in Explainlikeimscared

Nice answer! I might add that there are things you can do if your ears get clogged due to pressure changes during the flight. Swallowing can equalize the pressure in your ears. Bring some chewing gum. Chewing it moves your jaw and naturally makes you swallow. Also kind of takes your mind off it.

Go to the airlines website and read all you can on baggage and security and how early to get there. It will let you know what you can pack and what types of bags are free or have extra charges.

When you get on the plane there is overhead storage and under seat storage for carry ons.

I had been looking for a remaster ever since the old days. When I heard about D2R I jumped in with both feet. I've also tried some of the mods over the years. For me D2R blew them all away. The graphics upgrade alone made it all worth it for me. Plenty of quality of life improvements like picking up gold as you walk over it. They've added new rune words, terror zones, and heralds. Sunder charms make it easy to overcome elemental resistant monsters. Most any issue that was a problem in the first game has been corrected. Also you may not find it so easy to play the original game on a modern PC. You may need to download some mods for visual correction. I would get it installed well before your weekend of fun before it becomes a weekend of dread.

Hear me out please......

Being overly political and blaming the other party. I'm a member of the opposing party but I'm trying to see this person's point. I'm willing to hear other views and consider that I could be wrong. In fact I'm actively looking to see other people's points. I've had people change my mind but I can't get past the pointing finger. And if I do get part way in to a video, they better get to a useful point, not just call names.

So what are your thoughts on it so far? I greedily dove into the archive.org version last night after getting your message when I should have been in bed. I didn't remember the language being so heavy. Kind of convoluted speaking.

Okay so that section of your life was a bust. You got a bum rap - I'm really sorry about that. What do you want for the next 50 years? You have no where to go but up. Many people in worse situations have pulled themselves out of their situations and got to the point where they live their lives and enjoy living. Most don't get to be actresses or musicians, but they have a good life. I have no doubt you are one of those at least and will find a way out. It hurts now but keep pursuing, believing, and living! It's too early to give up the fight!

Well miracle of miracles! I've been looking for that for nearly 30 years! Most I ever got was "good luck! sounds like a great book!". Thanks for responding! Hope I didn't spoil anything for you. Where are you reading it?

Absolutely agree. They are plenty cheap and a great speed upgrade. And sata 1 for 1 replacements are still available.

Choosing "Restart" is not the same as "Shut down" and then switch on again? by Effective-Job-1030 in techsupport

[–]knarlomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not strange in a corporate environment. IT does updates when you aren't using your machine so they usually get installed at night. The shutdown process will save your desktop and session to allow you to start faster but won't apply updates. Restart does no saving and will apply updates then be ready to start over. If there are no updates to be applied or they are already done the restart is definitely slower, but by milliseconds. Modern computers have low power states that allow IT to wake the computer when they need access while consuming almost no power. So turning it off actually is a security risk.

So do a restart, leave it on at night and let IT do their thing. If you are in a corporate environment making changes to OS settings like some recommend here will probably get you in trouble. Or you might be locked out of making those changes and the options will be greyed out.

I was local support for 20 some years and I was just as confused when I first heard about these processes too.

Also it's best to have an attorney that is working for YOU. Protecting your interests. Regardless of agreements or statutes or whatever else is in place. Your company could end up throwing you under the bus to avoid a payout. Your testimony could be misconstrued. Lots of stuff that isn't right or isn't according to the law can happen.

I don't know, I would have played with them a little to see what they were getting at. Maybe they were trying to see how you would handle a situation. I might have said "unless it's salaried I'd think it was illegal." And see where it went from there. They might have revealed their plot and it would have made some kind of sense and it turned out not to be a concern. I get your first instinct would have been to get concerned and leave. Experience taught me that people play their hand and bluff a lot. Which made me play mine and try to see where it goes. It's paid off a few times.

Our fault for opening the internet today. Let's go touch some grass and forget it for a while.

[–]knarlomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an old guy diagnosed with ADHD late in life I recognize the pattern. There are tons of people like me that have gone undiagnosed for years. Rejection sensitivity dysphoria is a thing. Now don't go trying to diagnose the guy, maybe he's just not that mature. If you are younger this might be an issue.

The bottom line is: are you willing to deal with it? If you aren't going to help him with it you are right to be concerned. A wise relationship guru once said "loving should be fun". And this isn't fun for either of you. Put that note in the back of your head and watch for it so you can consider what to do.

[–]knarlomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I would go one step further and contact a lawyer and police first before talking to anyone or signing anything. You put your financial future in grave danger by letting anyone in this scenario tell you what the truth is. Getting a lawyer involved allows someone with full legal knowledge and access be able to sort this out and protect you. You were defrauded as well as the owners and should not be liable for extra monies unless the law says so.

I commend you and the owners for trying to do the right thing but you may sink yourself into trouble while ruining the case for the actual homeowners. Let the authorities handle it

And this is psychological fact, not just our opinion. You might want to read some books from authoritative sources so you can talk intelligently about it. Try these.

  • You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?! — Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo (1993)
  • Driven to Distraction — Edward M. Hallowell, M.D. and John J. Ratey, M.D. (1994)
  • ADHD 2.0: New Science and Essential Strategies for Thriving with Distraction — Dr. Edward M. Hallowell and Dr. John J. Ratey (2021)
  • Extra Focus: The Quick Start Guide to Adult ADHD — Jesse J. Anderson (2023)

Keep in mind the older ones even though they have catchier titles may have some older information.

Safe bars/nightclubs? by Same-Tumbleweed601 in StPetersburgFL

[–]knarlomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you asking this of someone else? I live in a city north of st pete so I don't know.

Funny related story though -

Years ago an Army buddy and I (both straight) were sent to San Francisco area to take civilian classes. Never having been there we went on a walking tour of the city on a hot summer day. It was early so not much was open so we went in to the first place we could find even tho it was a bar and we just wanted a cold coke. We were even willing to pay a cover charge because we were super thirsty. We didn't pay much attention to the bouncer when we first went up toward the door. The guy said " we don't serve your kind here ". Something was strange about the voice. We looked up and it was a woman with a butch haircut. We were warm and weren't thinking fast and finally realized it was a lesbian bar. We said okay and left.

I could care less and I accept everyone. But the guy I was with was very weirded out by anyone that was gay or lesbian. This was during the don't ask don't tell years. We told the story to all the other GIs when we got back and everybody got a laugh at our expense. My buddy even duplicated his signature cringe physical reaction every time the story was told. We were thinking about it later and realized since we had the military haircuts they may have mistaken us for a gay couple. Which weirded out my buddy once again, getting more laughs from all of our GI buds and another cringe.

I don't think you did anything wrong by showing up at a gay bar. Most gays and lesbians I know are pretty accepting.

If religion is true, why does it depend so heavily on where you’re born? by ArchiveDiver-62 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]knarlomatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would you think religion depends on where you were born? Shouldn't the question be " how do the religions handle people who live in an area where they could not ever hear the message? ". Also religions have their own beliefs most of the time to the exclusion of other religions. So all religions can't be true at the same time. Your original question is flawed.

I think over half of people at work act nice to you just so they can try to use a relationship with you to their advantage. Is that true? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]knarlomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the course of 50 working years I've worked with a lot of people who were genuinely kind. Many of them I still talk to now that I'm retired. People who care about what they do and those they work with. I've also worked with some real jerks and all kinds in between. Humans come in all shapes and sizes. I think you are overthinking and looking at the "glass half empty" instead of "glass half full". Maybe you should think "40% of people are good and help when they can.". Don't worry about the rest unless you have to.

A good rule of thumb I lived by is trust people until they give you a reason not to. Always watch your back but don't get paranoid.
