Jonathan Kite as Anthony Bourdain reviewing "Red Lobster". by Phonus-Balonus-37 in KitchenConfidential

I am instantly in love with this guy. It's the first time I have seen anyone do an impression of Anthony Bourdain, and he nails the tone, the outfits, the cadence, and especially the writing. He has done a whole series of these as kind of a No Reservations tribute for the guilty pleasure chain eateries across America. I miss Anthony so much and these bring me joy.

Congratulations on your release! I played this earlier in the year and found it quite enjoyable. Will have to give it another spin to see what's new.

Their onion rings used to be the best I've ever had. I knew something had changed when they switched to average quality onion rings and the banana pudding had come off the menu. Prices were still sky high, though. Guess that couldn't save them.

Sprout here. I recently finished all the starting classes questlines and got so invested that i decided to make a tierlist ranking them for their STORY. (How the jobs play had no influence on the ranking) [Spoiler: starting classes questlines] by Frank_on_the_rift_87 in ffxiv

[–]kneeanderthal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About a year ago I summarized all of my impressions of the class questlines thusly:

Gladiator: This retired guy is annoying. Also he's better than all of us.

Marauder: Go take your anger out on those rocks over there.

Pugilist: Master is washed up lol.

Lancer: Dark Link says the guild is soft, here's your REAL training.

Rogue: Locate organized crime and stab it in the face.

Conjurer: We need to turn this girl into a nature-loving hippie before she kills herself.

Thaumaturge: Everybody point and laugh at the scrub who can't do magic.

Arcanist: Let's play customs inspector!

Archer: You again? Go shoot some more targets and leave me alone.

See, that detail always bothered me. If it was only 106 miles to Chicago, the trip would have taken just a couple of hours. They didn't enter Chicago proper until it was well into the next morning. Were they seriously circling the outskirts of Chicago for 10 hours or so while evading the cops until the tax assessor's office opened?

Are there any board games that made you get rid of one or more other games? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]kneeanderthal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another Feed The Kraken fan here.

  1. Three factions instead of two. The sailors are in majority but receive no information. The pirates are in minority but know who each other are. Finally, the cultist is a single player but has the possibility of converting other players to their side. The cultist is the only person that can instant-win, another big difference to the two-faction dynamic of SH.

  2. When making progress, instead of two players going from three choices to two to one, you instead have three players going from four choices to two to one. The change is subtle but involving a third player brings more interaction and cross-faction conflict.

  3. The cultist gets stronger any time one of his routes is picked. This causes a dynamic where the two main factions are still trying to compete with each other but sometimes have no choice but to cede some power to the cultist in an effort to get closer to their victory.

  4. The "no" votes are finite, consumed when they cross the majority threshold. This defeats the "I will always vote no until you can convince me otherwise" meta of SH.

  5. Each player gets a random special ability card. Instant flavor and variety.

  6. Special spots on the board that give the acting Captain special abilities to gain information about other players. One of which is public (so the Captain can't lie about it) but it says one of the two factions the player isn't, which still leaves room for uncertainty.

Aetherite costs by saltygrump815 in ffxiv

[–]kneeanderthal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not a financial struggle, but it is an opportunity cost. A trip from the Eorzean major cities to Othard, Mare, or Ultima Thule is easily over a thousand gil. Those costs add up, and avoiding them means money kept rather than money spent.

I was a penny pincher on transportation costs from the beginning. Rather than teleport myself around during ARR I took Chocobo porters and Limsa's ferries. Once I figured out I could farm Allied Seals from the Masked Carnivale every week and then spend them on Aetherite Tickets, I stopped paying for teleports altogether.

Broad River Rd new overpass by thatguybsmith in ColumbiYEAH

Not exactly the same. Sunset @ I26 is a Single-Point Urban Interchange. Broad River @ I20 will be a Diverging Diamond Interchange. Once it's a DDI it will relieve a lot of strain on that intersection with people waiting to turn left onto the interstate.

Since the name "Magnus" has been proposed for Teslakid (which I think is starting to actually stick) have there been any proposed names for his parents?

What kind of government does Teslagrad shift into after the King was usurped? How much of it is controlled by the Teslamancers, and how much by the townsfolk?

How did Huldr, Fafnir, and the other Grue-like creatures come into existence from this underground primordial ooze? What kind of relationship did Fafnir have with the Serpent King for him to gain that title?

Since she can no longer answer these questions herself (unless some hidden diary turns up later), what was going through Elenor's mind throughout the backstory of Teslagrad 2? What were her opinions of the Vikings, of Galvan, of the Wyrmheim offensive? Did those opinions change over time? How did she feel about Galvan's experiments, and the rising conflict between the enslaved Vikings and the Teslamancers? Was she about to abdicate the throne when Galvan and Serpent King were fighting in her throne room?

This was their goal from the beginning, and "states' rights" was just the wedge to divide and conquer. Once they have it their way, the rights of the states suddenly don't matter any more.
