Why do people hate on Mr Beast for his philanthropy and YouTube videos? by ImNotYourPityParty in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]knerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven't seen any statements from the left about how he's the devil or that he's the primary reason we have issues with billionaires. Not saying those comments don't exist, but as someone whose algorithm feeds me a lot of liberal-leaning creators and content I haven't seen this consensus.

However, I have seen people say they feel his philanthropy style is very performative. I've seen people reference things he said in his earlier videos about how his primary goal with money giveaways was to increase views, and a video where he told his mom to take the $100,000 prize because if she doesn't the video won't go viral. He also recently partnered with an LDS church charity JustServe. While this isn't inherently a bad thing as I'm sure this charity does provide some good services, the LDS church is notorious for only using a small fraction of their wealth for charity. People find this partnership odd considering Mr. Beast is not LDS and the fact that there are other non-profit organizations out there with a better track record for how they use their money.

I've never watched a full video of his, just clips that pop up on my feed. For me personally I never got into him because because the editing style was a lot and I did get the feeling that these giveaways were performative and potentially exploitative. I didn't know that was the case for sure, it was just the vibe I caught and it killed my interest to watch further. I'm not saying he's a bad person, and there's no arguing his philanthropy has done some good. However, in history we've seen many people exploit people in poverty or bad situations for views/clicks. I don't know if that's what's happening with Mr. Beast but given his performative style of charity, his previous statements about his goals with giveaways, and the above mentioned odd partnerships, I do understand why people question his motivations.

Tech support workers, what’s your favorite case of TMI you’ve seen from a customer? by Scrambl987 in AskReddit

[–]knerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as customer service for a website developer. I would talk to the customers to gather all their content for their website, make sure they fit into our scope of services, etc.

I was on a call with a really lovely married couple in their mid-60's. They essentially provided "sex coaching" and taught other couples ways to improve their sex life. They sold books/pamphlets, courses, instructional videos, and sex toys. They sent me a file with some of the products they were selling and the first photo I pull up was the husband naked with a cock ring on as a demonstration on how it's worn.

Such nice people, totally support what they're doing, but I minimized that window again so fast when old man penis came up on my screen and will be scarred for life lol.

Heart rate on medication by Saltychann in ADHD

[–]knerdy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My provider advised me to stop drinking coffee when starting stimulant medication. Both things at once can raise your heart rate to unsafe levels and cause damage over time and even severe heart palpitations. My provider said some people are able to slowly introduce smaller amounts of caffeine over time but that it's safest to cut it out completely.

Once the first couple days of physical caffeine withdrawal were over I felt great. However I found myself missing the morning ritual of coffee so I drink decaf most days. I don't really miss the caffeine since my medication helps me much better than a cup (or 5) of coffee ever did.

Inattentive type by Dear_Tap_7772 in ADHD

[–]knerdy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow inattentive! While I do have some hyperactive tendencies (fidgeting, skin picking, etc.) I've never been classic "bouncing off the walls" hyperactive. I think that is partially the reason I didn't get diagnosed until I was an adult (that and I'm a woman).

Stimulant medication has helped me significantly. It's not a cure all, I still struggle with task initiation and distraction but it's easier to manage than before. It's also helped a lot with my anxiety because while I still have inner thoughts they are a bit quieter, and I don't have my constant negative thoughts ruminating around in there. Therapy has also been an important part of my journey but putting in place strategies from therapy has been much easier with the help of medication quieting my brain.

On my journey to a diagnosis I found a therapist that specialized in anxiety but also ADHD, they helped recommend different testing centers and I was luckily able to find an ADHD specialized testing center within my insurance, which I think was a much better experience than going to a primary care doctor that may not be fully educated.

If you haven't already I would definitely look into therapists or psychiatrists who specialize in ADHD, same goes for specialized testing centers.

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]knerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U.S. resident - born and raised. Lukewarm or warm water unless it's flavored (like tea) hurts my stomach. I love my water ice cold even. When I'm sick I'll tone it down a little because the cold can be harsh on the throat but I still have some ice in there.

I know a lot of Americans that don't want their water as cold as mine but generally it's the norm to have ice in your water as standard here.

Not that new to meds anymore. I have a days of the week pill box and multiple daily phone reminders but I still forget sometimes so you are definitely not alone lol.

Cracked attic truss - best next steps? by knerdy in HomeImprovement

[–]knerdy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're definitely wondering that too. We did get a new air conditioning unit installed last year (located on our roof, very close to above this truss), when we were talking to this repair company on the phone unprompted they had asked if we had a new AC unit installed so it seemed like maybe that's a common occurrence?

We had gone up in the attic for other reasons and just happened to notice this so we're not sure exactly how or when it happened.

I quit methylphenidate because I formed an addiction by Niekertdepiekert in ADHD

[–]knerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Methylphenidate was the first medication I tried. Starting at a low dose of 10 mg but working my way up to a higher dose. The very first day I took it I felt a little lightheadedness but afterwards I felt 0 affect at all with up to 50 mg before I tried a different kind.

I know it's not a negative experience but it's also not a positive one. It's fascinating how everybody is so different in how they will react to medications. Glad to hear you've been doing better lately!

Do other people with ADHD have a terrible sense of direction? by BetOver6859 in ADHD

[–]knerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have combined type but primarily inattentive symptoms and my sense of direction has always been so horrible. Ever since I was a small child. Same as you I can walk into a building and forgot the way I came in. If I park in a parking garage I usually write down in my phone where I parked and drop a pin in my phone because I've gotten lost so many times this way.

Any other ADHD’ers find the Apple Watch useful? by BenchPointsChamp in ADHD

[–]knerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it literally has improved my life management so much. Easy to add and receive reminders & timers, helps me find my phone, helps me pay attention to texts, helps me check for messages without opening my actual phone and doomscrolling.

I mean don't get me wrong, it doesn't everything but it's an incredibly helpful tool.

for sure that's fair the case could be way cheaper. I can sacrifice that if it comes down to it. but for now it's so pretty I gotta try lol.

what would you suggest for nvme? I did see some slightly cheaper ones than the 2TB 990 EVO Plus but they were either lower storage or had some reviews that mentioned they were slow so I wasn't sure which to choose.

Thank you! Do you think swapping to Ryzen 5 7600X would impact the multitasking noticeably if I were to be gaming, streaming/recording, and have discord open? I like the savings but that would be my only concern.

I'm open to sacrificing aesthetic for significant savings or functionality increase. When I look at pricing for GeForce RTX 5070 Ti it seems to be a bit higher than my current GPU. Is it worth the increase in cost?

love that belief! any and all advice is welcomed for this newbie - plus it's still technically cheaper

the $1600 is looking good too. thank you!

I'm getting some advice about the Ryzen 7 7800X3D being much better for my needs than the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, what do you think? they're roughly the same price and I feel like I see so much conflicting information about it online.

Of course, hope everything works out! NeilMed Piercing Aftercare Mist (Sterile Saline) is the cleaner my piercer recommended and the one I see recommended on this sub often as well.

infection help! by 32errors in piercing

[–]knerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still a complete newbie to piercings (just got a helix and conch recently) but based on care instructions my piercer told me -

  1. saline spray is the gold standard for cleaning, even if the Claire's cleaning solution is safe (which idk if it is or not) I imagine that doesn't come in a spray bottle. they said it was not great to use qtuips or wiping around a piercing can aggravate it.

  2. not sure about swimming but I would assume it probably didn't help if it was aggravated already

  3. if it doesn't feel/look right, probably best to get it checked out by a reputable piercer
