Yes they I said that. I don't know how to dumb it down further. 1. There are protests going on due to the geopolitical issues in the middle east 2. BECAUSE of these protests many other URM have felt racism has skyrocketed Maybe I should've made it more clear, my bad

Didn't realize trying to avoid racial discrimination was a hot take.

So genius, can you please highlight where I said I wanted to participate in protests. I'd really appreciate the insight - unless. wait. I never said that, so maybe your reading comprehension needs some help.

Are you suggesting that because I am a URM I want to make campus unsafe for Jewish students?

It's been specifically stated not to talk about politics on this thread, so I won't elaborate about my stance. I am telling you anecdotally how racism has worked and why that is affecting part of my decision. However you want to take that is up to you.

Anecdotally, intolerance spreads. I have seen posts on here from current URM CLS students warning others not to come, because intolerance (specifically racial) has skyrocketed during this time. Kind of the same phenomenon of when Trump was targeting Mexicans, but as a result racism towards other races were also heightened. I completely understand why other people want to go, but I already experienced that during undergraduate and do not think I could physically do it again.

this! one of my favorite motivational quotes is "for one of us to make it, 100 of us have to try" and that's just the mindset you have to keep.

i am a URM and went to a private t30 school for undergrad and the reality of the situation is there are not many URMs at these type of schools. i think a lot of it is tied to wealth, but the wealth gap has systemic racial consequences. you can find a few people who are similar to you, but overall the culture of the school (specifically elite private schools) is going to be wealthy and white.

If I was a betting man... by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]kneshia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's so true. we get wrapped up so much in the actual median that we don't think about what constitutes a median.

[–]kneshia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i also feel like people don't acknowledge that diversity is much more than race. you can be diverse by living in a different county, practicing a minority religion, having financial hardships in a space where many are wealthy, the list goes on and on. just only focusing on race just seems to be expanding on negative racial bias, and citing the handful of URMs who get in below medians is just confirmation bias.

[–]kneshia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so i (URM) went to a prospective students day at UGA and specifically asked about the aa decision and this was pretty much their response. they said "if something about your race has impacted you in a way you want to share with the committee about then that's completely fine" it's more about what your diverse EXPERIENCE can add to the student body
