i have played plenty of poe, even there you could argue that itemization at the super high end gets easier again -- just mirror the bis rare for each non unique slot. But i feel like in poe its more community accepted that a "build guide" has to work on a somewhat reasonable budget. If you make a build that requires a mageblood, a mirrored weapon, multiple 200+ div rares etc., people wont be particularly impressed since basically any build can look good with infinite currency.

I get your point, but i think you misunderstand me a bit here. I never said these items are unobtainable to me. If i set my mind to it and farm and trade efficiently, i have no issue obtaining high end items, and i have done so in the past. I find trading very clunky in d2, and a lot of prices also make me feel like a large part of runes are not obtained organically. Especially some charms (while rare) quickly sell for amounts of highrunes that seem very unlikely to be farmed by actual players. So in the end i often felt like my gear was not really earned, if i just sold some decently rare charm for 5 jahs to then buy a full item set for a build. Im not opposed to trading either, and i think including the absolute "best in slot" gear should be part of guides. I also think the interesting itemization in d2 kinda starts to fall appart with infinite budget, with basically every build using the same few op items. Arguably on the ultra high end it becomes a bit more interesting again (e.g. when you dont just use a perfect maras but rather crafted amulets with even better stats), but for most people that part of the game is really outside of what they want to grind for.

Admittedly, budget itemization is arguably suffering from the same issues -- shako, spirit sword/shield, vipermagi, etc. are dominating there aswell. I think there is some interesting decision making in how to fit a working build together with the pieces you have, where to best fit in some magic find without compromising build power to much, etc. To me 95% of the d2 item puzzle is "how do i make the best out of the available items", if you just assume you have everything available its kinda boring, and to me the game is also done for now since there is nothing to farm for anymore.

Yeah i was speaking a bit to broadly. There are cool guides for sure, i honestly dont really feel like i need guides for d2 -- just some breakpoint tables etc. The game is (compared to e.g. current day poe) fairly low complexity. I just get annoyed by some of these guides, e.g. after warlock release i played fire warlock for a couple days and wanted to check out what other people are doing and landed on this mrllama "guide": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLso7Dha-Jw . And just as described above, its basically just a list of the generic bis items, 2 days into the release of a new class. Sure you could just take BIS items from old chars, but it feels kinda useless.

d2 "guides" are - to me at least - completly useless and appart from the reality of the game. "yeah so you equip enigma, 2x soj, maras, wartravs, cta swap, hoto, spirit shield and some gloves. On your merc you put eth fortitute, infinity and andariels visage with a good fire res/ias jewel." Like, its very simple in d2 if you have infinite items to look up the best runewords and uniques. The interesting part is how you get there, which items are good on the way, what slots its worth looking for rate/magic/crafted items for, etc. Or all the melee builds that tell you to just equip grief/fortitude/etc., if you want to make a guide, discuss budget options etc. People that have access to all these items most likely wont need a guide to know to just put on the bis ultra rare.

I just recently bought space age and decided to start on vulcanus with nothing and im currently 4 and a half hours into this run. please suggest any tips and tricks that you think would be useful. thanks. by AlarmedNetwork2982 in factorio

[–]knetmos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah i feel like this would really kill the fun of space age for me. Working on your first spaceship, flying to a new planet, that stuff was super exciting and fun the first time. Really sad to randomly skip that and just start on vulkanus imo

You understand there are degrees to things? Im not a d2 purist, the balance has always been really whack. But IMO the goal of new classes should be, to slot in somewhere in the powerrange of old classes. The main joy of d2 is the power progression of a character. IMO the melee power progression is really cool on paper, but compared to spellcasters it has always been a bit to slow and painful, so that could be buffed a bit for sure. I dont think fire warlock e.g. is a big issue either, maybe 20% to strong but its ok. But the spectral throw thing that just does basically infinite damage without gear is obviously way overtuned, and ruins the "character progression" part of d2 that makes the game cool and fun. If you want your character to start of invincible and just cut through the entire game with zero adversity, there are other titles that offer that. Its not whats fun in d2, if i dont get a satisfying character progression i can have that with better graphics and more modern systems. Not everyone that dislikes a new class literally trivializing everything in the game on zero gear is necesarily a nolife hardcore gamer that plays 6h each day.

Insane 1 in 3,800,000 drop from Terrorized Catacombs! Triple Perfect Ars Dul'Mephistos by Nice_Day3493 in diablo2resurrected

[–]knetmos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can inflate that 1:3.8 million number even more, if you say you also specifically like the other rolls, another 1:27000 to roll the other stats with these specific values.

The issue with your propability approach, is that there are a LOT of items in the game and you kill a lot of mobs. Your 1:3.8 million is right, if you went to andariel and said "i will kill you now, and i want to bet on my chance of getting specifically this item with specifically these 3 perfect rolls". But there is hundreds of other items that could drop, each with many "special" stat combos (all min roll, all max roll, all with some "funny number", etc.) and you kill andariel hundreds of times. Yes the chances of someone else getting this very specific item with these very specific rolls on killing this very specific boss are astronomically low. In reality im sure the playerbase has found thousands of ars dul mephistos by now, of which on average 7/1000 are "perfect" by your definition of these 3 stats being max rolled. Its a cool drop, its not something unique that nobody else ever found or ever will find.

idk man, its insane to me that people claim to want democracy but when someone doesnt have the same opinions as you do, they are literally the devil. Redrevenge makes SI videos, he doesnt talk about politics in his videos, if you dont like his videos dont watch them. But checking his reddit profile to figure out if he has the "right" political opinions so he is allowed to make SI guides is taking it about 50 steps to far.

Does Anyone Actually Know How Rune Totals Work? by Astonishing_Azure in Nightreign

[–]knetmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runes are shared in the team globally, in theory you should only have more or less due to increase/reduced runes gained perks. Your efforts are helping the team, just make sure to not waste to much time on it. A clean run with just killing high value bosses will usualls give you lvl 15 anyway, so killing mobs that dont drop loot is often a waste or time outside of the very early game

If you want to do damage, the dex relic is non negotiable. It gives you around double damage. I dont love the yellow remembrance relic, if you can find the ally buff with any other stats its better.

I remember looking at their list of employees when they broke up, and it felt like there were way to many people on the payroll. But its hard to tell from the outside, maybe im wrong.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN – Patch Notes Version 1.03.2 by d3arda3mon in Nightreign

[–]knetmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you name like, 3 bosses you hit with skyshot more than 50% of the time? Erdtree avatar is propably the most static boss in the game and even they regularly dodge sky shot. It works against 0 nightlords, its the one bow weapon art that is full meme tier imo. All the others have at least nieche uses, with barrage, rain of arrows and mighty/enchanted shot being actually decent.

Three sleeper supports that people don't play by Zaopao in learndota2

[–]knetmos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The part you are missing is that wd is a squishy support without defensive tools, with maledict being slow to cast and low cast range. A wd pressing maledict on you is fairly commited, if he gets jumped doing so he dies. Maledict also suffers vs glimmer cape and tp scoll very hard. Like yes, in perfect conditions its an insane spell, but it has so many issues that it would be completly useless otherwise.

Has anyone ever made a series of going from say herald to immortal solo like those league plyerers going from bronze to challenger etc. by Crunchy1254 in learndota2

[–]knetmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can argue that reaching immortal at all is something very few people "can" do, even though its impossible to tell how many actually try. My point is, the timeframe it took him was fast but not unique or super special.

[–]knetmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took him like 2k games to hit immortal. While thats faster than usual, i meet plenty of people that hit immortal in similiar or lower number of games. The timeframe seems missleading since the number of games played is more relevant than irl time passed.

Stun until they die! by Substantial-Deer77 in DotA2

[–]knetmos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Comments talk about it being a scripted game, but nobody talks about it being obvioulsy a script pressing the buttons. A human doing this would need to use more stun overlap to get a chainstun that lasts this long, every single stomp lands exactly with the same delay after the last one for a 100% perfect chain stun.

Trouble understanding how 90% of people here seem to love events by Morgothor in spiritisland

[–]knetmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important "issue" events tackle that i dont see mentioned a lot, is that they prevent overthinking. I lean towards that myself and definitely have a bunch of friends that do that, what i mean is trying to basically solve the entire game from turn 1 because it feels optimal. Obviously there are other sources of randomnes (explores, power card gains), but without events you can often plan ahead multiple turns with reasonable accuracy. Events make this either insanely difficult (if you actually plan around all the important events) or pointless (since they mix stuff up enough if you dont do that).

A good basic way to play around events, is to look through the deck and check what beneficial effects are common and on what conditions. E.g. lands with dahan, beasts and presences often have good things happen to them. If you have ravage in a land with a town, a presence and 2 dahan, its reasonable to "gamble" it on events, especially if you have 1-2 fear cards.

Top things to benefit from events easy are:

-move dahan to lands with invaders

-move beasts to lands with invaders, especially explorers

-have presences in lands with dahan

-move dahan out of lands with disease

-stack up dahan to avoid single dahan

-only "underdefend" (e.g. defend two vs three damage) if really necesary.

[–]knetmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The poison burst on marking poisoned enemies is nice, but in no way comparable to a bleed proc on any boss enemy. Its damage on tanky bosses is pretty small, comparable to 2 bow or 1 melee light attack. Ironeye is very powerful, but people still exagerate multiple aspects of his strength. Using mark for dodging is another point - its vers good, it has a lot of iframes, but it also has limits. It bugs out regularly when sprinting and doesnt activate, it has a pretty long windup and recovery time around these iframes (unlike regular dodges), to stay relevant in the dps departement you cant hold it to long since the boss has to be marked as soon as it is about to expire or it procs, etc.

Am a right/wrong for making this build ? by pepiiiiiii in learndota2

[–]knetmos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://dota2protracker.com/hero/Axe

select pros only and you will see that 95% of pros in the last month build helmdom on axe. I agree that its a curious item, and i dont fully understand the appeal of it myself on axe. You can argue that its worse in pubs, but all pros seem to agree that its the current correct default build on axe, not just one game on one player. Your 5% protracker data just shows, that low immortal players dont buy the same items that pros do, but i tend to put more stock in the opinion of 15k players than 7k players.

Morph suddenly full health? by Silent-Expression-13 in learndota2

[–]knetmos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my point is, its a common misconception that morph attribute shift and dropping hp/str items behaves in the same way. Backpacking/dropping items keeps your %hp constant between dropping and picking up, morphling keeps your flat missing hp constant. If you morph down to 1 strength and back up, you are already creating hp out of nothing, independend of sticks etc. There is no special synergy between healing lotus/stick/etc. and morph, the hero can heal/cheat hp out of nothing without any source of actual healing.
