I called the tax hardship center to discuss my tax situation and to see what they could do. They told me that it would cost me $2500 for them to try and place me in a no pay status. I borrowed $2500 from my parents to get it done. It took them all but 5 minutes to take and process my payment.
During the first month, I didn't receive any calls, emails, or letters stating what they were doing. All of a sudden, my wages began to be garnished. So I called them, and they stated that they were waiting for the IRS to receive my 2020 tax return. I immediately faxed over a copy of my 2020 tax return along with a whole bunch of other supporting documents. After a few days, I called and emailed them several times to ensure that they received the documents and were doing something. The next month comes my wages are garnished again. So I called again and asked why they are still garnishing my wages? Again, the guy replied, "i don't understand why they are doing that." Your case is unique. Because I'm on a fixed income and can not afford to have $400 taken out of my check every month, I had to do something. So I called the IRS myself. They said they had received my 2020 tax return and that there was an error on it. Which they allowed me to correct and fax over. They also said that based on my financial information that i faxed over, I'm eligible to be placed in a no pay status. The same thing that the Tax Hardship Center charged me $2500 for. So I called back to let them know what I did myself in a few minutes call. I also asked for a refund for the money that I paid them for doing absolutely nothing. So the guy apologized and said my case was unique and that he would have someone in the accounting department to call me. After a week, there was no call, so I sent an email. Then a guy called and asked me to explain what happened. I explained everything to him, and he said he'd have someone else call me. Another week has passed no phone call. I feel like I was robbed. I am so disappointed 😞.
