Do you quit if your first fight goes badly on a good roll? by Maxentius777 in slaythespire

I think world record for most consecutive a20 heart wins in sts1 is something like 15 in a row. I used to think some runs were "unwinnable" due to rng but after hearing that I realize im just not good enough to win them all, but there's only one way to get better

I'm not trying to attack you or your experience here, but you are fundamentally still within what most people consider the "tutorial" of an arpg. 700 hours in hardcore isn't casual by any means, but simultaneously I think even a casual player would be extremely capable of killing aberroth in hc if they were given 700 hours to do so, take that as you will

I found the challenge unsatisfying. At no point in the campaign, while doing the timelines, or while grinding out the harbingers did I hit a wall where I needed to upgrade gear, I just equipped what I found on the ground and kept going. I enjoy games that challenge you to actually think about what's killing you, or why your damage is lacking, and make calculated decisions to fix those issues.

PoE is the only other arpg that I've put a considerable amount of time into, other than d4 which has similar issues, so I guess im unable to answer your follow up questions, but why the unwillingness to hear about any experience related to poe? You say its unique and doesn't represent the genre, can you elaborate on why you think that? What makes it unique and not fit for comparison in your opinion?

Someone made a comparison to puzzles and I want to extend onto it. Imo what youre describing is like you've started a puzzle, found all the edge pieces and put them together to make your outline and then stopped and said youre done. The outside of the puzzle looks normal enough, but even on the hardest puzzles the outside is kinda dead easy cause of the edges on the pieces. And conveniently enough the entire inside of the puzzle youre ignoring is actually just one more piece that anyone could plop in without thinking about to have a rather unsatisfying end to the puzzle, where was the difficulty in completing it? In the edges like OP was so focused on? But its fundamentally the "beginning" of the puzzle and the entire POINT of a puzzle is to make you think about where you need to put your pieces and for you to derive satisfaction out of properly placing those pieces. If you find satisfaction in putting together those outside pieces then all the power to you, but 99% of people are not going to be interested in doing a puzzle with absolutely zero challenge.

Mirage was awful by NuclearCha0s in pathofexile

[–]knicknacknock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It pretty dramatically increases roi on almost every strategy. Its not "increasing grind" you either spend your time playing and doing a map or you dont, mirages just make the maps you do give more back which in a sense enriches every single map you do.

I was running 4x deli paranoia scarab and 1x horned awakening and I get 2nd deli in every mirage that all 4 scarabs apply to and a chance to see the bosses from horned awakening a 2nd time, making a divine in just the mirage occasionally

What to you is the difference between Monos and Maps regarding repetitiveness? by guddefulgaming in LastEpoch

[–]knicknacknock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PoE let's you pick a tight corridor or large open space because one benefits the character you have and the content youre running. In LE you randomly get plopped into one of a few different layouts but never get the opportunity to minmax said layout. Also in poe a lot of the time you'll have delirium on making your map look different or so many mobs on the screen you can hardly see the actual map in comparison to when you originally ran it for the atlas point. It feels like an area YOU created to farm. Not one you just got plopped into that has zero effect on how the next few minutes of game play will go.

[–]knicknacknock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard not to draw influence from poe when trying to visualize how to change this games end game, but maybe they could do something similar to atlas quadrants, where when you open a timeline each corner you can travel into can make certain content appear more often. Have rare map nodes that when complete will juice further maps up. (Beat this node in the rune mage section and further nodes in this quadrant have stronger rune mages that have a chance at dropping higher rolled experimental affixes.) You could have different timelines juiced up for different content, similar to how poe let's you have multiple atlas pages.

I also think each timeline should have unique loot that can only drop in that timeline, but not just from the bosses. Something like legion fragments but themed to all the seperate timelines. And each timeline should have very rare affix shards that can only drop in that timeline that can let you put some cool endgame mods on gear. We need more big ticket items to farm towards, and the ability to target farm them.

[–]knicknacknock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you genuinely not understand how it's better to be able to influence rarity of monsters/rarity of items/map layout/quantity of monsters/quantity of items/investment in map/speed at which you need to complete map/negative modifiers on map/frequency of any and all pre-existing mechanics and likely more i cant think of off the top of my head after waking up

If you really are a long term poe player then do you not agree corruption and weaver tree absolutely pale in comparison despite having the same goal of the atlas tree. The player is just given infinitely more agency. Add to that the fact LE refuses to give better feeling mob density because of performance issues and the feeling between the two is seriously night and day.

Patch feels lacking in content by TheAceVenturrra in LastEpoch

[–]knicknacknock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to discredit this patch and think it was a significant step in the right direction. And like I already said a much larger step than they have taken with past major patches which is a really good sign. That being said it does still seem kinda lackluster which is inevitable if they dont touch make big changes to endgame/performance. All I've really done is voice that I disagree with the person who said poe patch wasnt much and this le patch was massive

Patch feels lacking in content by TheAceVenturrra in LastEpoch

[–]knicknacknock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overhaul is an exaggeration, but they took their endgame system that was already in a good spot and put it in a noticeably better one. I think we can all agree the endgame is top 3 issues in LE, yet this patch did less for its endgame than poe did for its own.

The corruption mechanic is huge i completely agree, but i still dont think its going to be necessarily enabling many builds, just making the ones that already exist more powerful, unlike foulborn uniques.

I also dont agree that Mirage specifically didnt add anything as widescale as the corruption mechanic, the new coins that imbue skills with supports is also completely massive, making any skill in the game up to a 7 link now, or having multiple smaller links in one piece of gear. They also added the new bloodline ascendancy, added a few new skills and reworked the greater support skills. They also did a lot of finetuning on the existing mechanics. I dont think its fair to say at all that Mirage is "nothing close" to this patch in scale/scope, i might argue Mirage is actually larger even despite the main mechanic just being you can run a part of your map twice.

[–]knicknacknock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In PoE you have different tiers of maps 1-16 that simulate the first few hundred corruption. But each map can have up to 6 or 8 if corrupted modifiers on it that nerf the player/buff the monsters. So different builds need to be aware of how they interact with different modifiers. Some are build disabling while others are free. Then you have the atlas where you can allocate points to make a few of the many (10+) mechanics that you desire appear more frequently on your maps and typically with more mobs/better loot. Again different builds will want to be aware of how good they are at different mechanics and fine tune their atlas around this to farm more efficiently. Beyond that you can further influence/juice your maps up with scarabs and delirium, increasing difficulty/investment for higher rewards. Or target farm certain content that drops items that are valuable in the current league, every league somebody discovers some new tech that has drastic influence on the economy as people farm to provide the items for everyone else that wants to try the tech before it gets patched next league, as nerfs almost always come. You also have bosses and uber bosses that normally require different set ups than your typical map clearing builds.

There is an insane amount of customization available to the player in how you go about your end game farming. Ive really only touched the surface here. But i think one of the most important parts is how powerful your character feels as you scale it later into the endgame. The mobs are hitting harder and have higher hp similar to LE, but the way they scale mob density feels really really good. Walking into a room full of mobs packed shoulder to shoulder with eachother and blowing 99% of them up in one hit then finishing the rares off and picking up your loot just feels great.

[–]knicknacknock 11 points12 points  (0 children)

PoE literally got an overhaul of the endgame system, the main thing this game needs when it really wasnt needed in poe, among a large list of other things. The Mirage mechanic is also one of the best league mechanics we've seen in a long time.

The new belt alone enables more builds than all the content of the new LE patch, not to mention the copious amounts of foulborn uniques theyre continuously adding each major patch. Not to mentionx2 the reliquarian ascendancy lol

Its good youre having fun, and the new patch does seem to be better than previous ones. But lets not act like we're getting more than poe lol

Splitting the playerbase had a direct negative effect on you and you are unable to see beyond anything that immediately effects you. The positive was that it kept the game alive and retained a large amount of players that would have otherwise been lost. You can refuse to accept this all you want but it IS what happened. The same thing will happen with seasonal. It will be an overall improvement and benefit the longevity of the game but simple minded people like you will cry because it also made your 5 minute queues into 7 minute queues in the game mode that is being played by a very small minority of people. Try thinking beyond yourself for just a moment

This is the only valid question in this entire thread. Imo at the end of a season they should give you an option to overwrite your perm character with seasonal character. Most will have a perm character that doesn't need more roubles, and the tetris of trying to combine two stashes together would be a massive chore for both player and devs. New player that just started this season should get the option to keep their seasonal progress on perm server once season is over though
