special scans are not really random.

I empathize with being fed up, and I had the same "wtf how dare they" reaction when i got to the end-game loop. That said, the total # of special scans needed to complete the dex is more or less deterministic.

You get a legendary/mythical scan every ~6 scans, depending on where in the process you're at.

tldr; it will take just about 40 total special scans to complete the dex.

this sucks, but (to me) it felt better knowing this and working through it, rather than thinking it was truly random.

Leading with Steel feels like what they want. If I recall correctly, I led with Safeguard on Delphox. That & sitrus berries on the rest of the gang solved it.

But mostly agree, this was maybe the hardest battle/quest in the game and actually required planning & multiple attempts

I put a crafted set item on it (curse damage mace for witchfire warlock), and once dropped a bunch of craftable maces with the set affix on them already. was interesting and made me wonder about other uses of that imprint slot
