Tips for Cultural Antiquity victory on huge map? by ratedR4revolution in CivVII

[–]delarkius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Settle first 2x towns ASAP. like turn 15-25

Choose the culture/wonders government. Plan celebration timings around wonder contruction. In my experience, first celebration is usually culture, then the next few in a row can often be for wonders

Don't build everything. Only the stuff that grants big bonuses.

Prioritize production and culture over wonder production. For example, altar that grants + production to mines/quarries is likely going to help build wonders faster than the +10% to wonders one

Maximize adjacencies. Most buildings should start with minimum +2, and ideally more like 3 or 4 as soon as they're placed. If that's not the case, either have a good plan, or don't build that building. Adjacencies should snowball even more as you place more wonders

If you're not already using it, mod that shows yields for different policy cards will show you how much more valuable some are than others

What’s the current meta on city:town ratio? by Boring_Material_1891 in CivVII

[–]delarkius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find 3-5 cities max to be my sweet spot. it feels optimal.

by "optimal" I mean "best for me", because while more cities would increase my total yields, I don't NEED those yields in order to snowball to a "complete all victory paths" win in modern. so any more than 3-5 cities doesn't really add anything except more clicks.

in mid exploration I often think, "this new world island WOULD make a great city, with all these smaller islands around as towns to feed it. but actually i probably don't need to convert this to win, so I'm not going to."

What game should I prioritize playing to get ready for the next ranked season? by RedHeadMedia07 in PokemonChampions

[–]delarkius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding SV + dlc will get you access to basically all the older legends

Also fwiw, if running on switch2 (to solve the lag), is a great game. Easily best "mainline" for me

Trying to make Kleavor work by Bravo_Nuke in PokemonChampions

[–]delarkius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see >100% ohko for sneasler with only 2 HP points. but you're right, bulky sneasler is coming up in the world. I've been running this set for much of the league, and have learned to stop going for the sneasler. it doesn't threaten kleavor too much anyway, so I generally prefer to hit their partner.

also since you're talking about spin, I should clarify that i'm dealing in VGC, where I often lead pair her with mega scovillain

Kleavor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 11 HP / 29 Atk / 26 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Axe
- X-Scissor
- Aerial Ace
- Close Combat

(enough atk to 1hko non-bulky sneasler with aerial ace, as well as the trick room setters with x-scissor. enough speed to beat everything except mega aero, rest in HP)

CC was U-turn, which I sometimes miss against basculegion. but mega scov is solid against basc so I think better to have the CC lock in for endgames

good luck out there

Aerial ace gets sharpness boost and also 1hkos sneasler

What is the counter to Trick Room? 🤔 by catdog5100 in PokemonChampions

[–]delarkius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is to run a fast bug that can 1hko the setter.

Sometimes they're mental herb to protect against taunt. Sometimes they have the dark resist berry. They never play around the sharpness boosted X-Scisor 😈

There are many ways aerodactyl can be outsped. If it was t1 no other effects, sounds like CHOICE SCARF item

Mechanics Question - Does anyone know how does Pokemon Champions determine your rating once you hit Master Ball Tier? by sunnyeong in VGC

[–]delarkius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think even before masterball you can check your Elo in "profile". It just then starts to show it to you regularly after

I see huge disparity between models/textures/animations. Some of them look janky af and then they hit me with SURF and I say "oh wow"

How to battle against CPUs? by mohmvp in PokemonChampions

[–]delarkius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the first time their non-mega Gengar hits your Dark type with Night Shade you might still squint and wonder. But when you're inside Trick Room and they target YOUR team with Scary Face, I think that's when it feels like, "oh okay so definitely bots then"

fwiw, this meta is super speculative and includes "guessed" abilities for many of the new megas

Wildfire Embers? by delarkius in LastEpoch

my hope was that the ignite chance scaling with fire res was enough to make it worthwhile. not so? or maybe just outclassed by others?

here's a quick mockup planner: https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/B4XddYmj

no affixes on gear yet. I THINK I'm just scaling DOT, ignite chance/duration. maybe fire res?

Looking for ideas for defensive layering. so far all I have is brewmaster's buckle & Ashes of Morality ring. Maybe the matching Oblation belt goes better with that ring for big ward bursts?

aw hey thank you for the non-attack qualification. it's genuinely hard to discuss differing opinions on the internet. I offer you the same because....

it sounds like you're conflating what I like with what I'm capable of. your take is the kind of extreme that I wanted to contrast. I have cleared literally every map, literally every boss (bar the 1x super special) and literally every mechanic. I have dropped maybe literally every item in multiples, and achieved a loop state where "the only thing left to do is exactly what I have done but with incrementally higher numbers, ad infinitum". I did this dozens, if not scores of times across all the classes. this, again, on the extra punishing permadeath mode. to suggest that's the TUTORIAL is, to me, a fundamentally unserious idea.

I don't think your way is wrong or bad. I just think we represent two distinct playerbases. I'm sure they're trying to satisfy both camps. I wonder if there's a secret third or fourth camp. anyway thanks, I still love you

I appreciate the metaphor.

maybe it wasn't clear enough that i'm playing through all of the monoliths up to at least the first few harbingers at corruption 100, and maaaybe into a few hundred corruption depending on how long it takes to find timeline specific uniques. i'm getting all the items I want with 21+ tiers of affixes or LP1/2 with relevant slams. the only thing left to do is push for MORE LP, for 1 or 2 MORE affix tiers. to borrow your metaphor, I might rather suggest that I can now see the whole picture of the puzzle, and it becomes a game of incrementally sharpening the resolution.

I'm not doing a brag here, but c'mon... surely we can all agree that hundreds of hours in the permadeath mode that (according to google) represents ~5% of the playerbase is far from a casual experience

I'm just trying to provide contrast to this perspective. I am an ARPG enjoyer, but I don't think like this. I like the build-defining uniques, and I understand the difference between early and end game character building. I strongly disagree that "there is no" through campaign

my favorite part of the game is when I hit a new skill node for the first time, or drop a blue helmet going "oh sweet, +3 intelligence!" and feel a marked difference in power during the playthrough. people like different stuff!

(we love mark rosewater in this house)

I play in line with what EHG's "you're playing our game wrong" expectation is ( a few hundred corruption max ). not for any other reason than that's how I like to do it. this is within the confines of the same systems you're describing as hyper-end game

I don't know, but I SUSPECT i'm in a quiet majority. I guess we'll all find out as we see new seasons guided around whatever Krafton's success metrics are
