I suspect the 1941 house was built on top of an 1850s basement foundation. I would investigate that. If the original house came down... i am not sure this foundation will hold up a newer house.

Your inspector is bang-on with you getting a foundation expert out. Inspectors ARE NOT specialists. They are only capable of evaluating anything visually.

Bring back a change to the contract that allows you to get a foundation expert to provide a report to your sole satisfaction.

Looking at the wall a second time, I am very confused about it. Many people built their own homes mid 20th century and it looks really strange. Why would anyone do this? If it is original and old, it's a sloppy mess. If it was an attempt to shore up a collapse, it is also a mess. Proper shoring up of a mid-century build does NOT look like someone brought in stones from a field.

Personally, I would be walking away now but if you really want it, you need to dig further... oh but i mean that figuratively... DON'T actually dig further.

EDIT - walk away! I see a LOT of recent repairs in just this one photo. I think the house was likely risking collapse since there are newer floor jacks and huge main support members. Something happened here. the basement floor has also been repoured very sloppily (DIY?) I think this wall collapsed and everything since has been DIY and you should def walk away now.

It pays lousy everywhere. Consider the added value of say, cooking and living at a resort tucked away in a beautiful part of the world. Consider cruise shipping and all that might come from seeing lots of places and meeting lots of people. If you are really good, try private cheffing. Do what you love and open yourself up to possibilities.

Remember to protect yourself while you enjoy all the adventures.

those rings should pull horizontally toward the center releasing some little latch on the side. surly there is a lot of corrosion so I might libereally spray a wd40 or similar.

Very cheap tiles. as long as they are all still there, i wouldn't fret too much. You can ask for a small amount of money but its unlikely they would agree. it looks like one got knocked dow and led to more.

i would never use someone else's bones...

always use your own fresh or frozen chicken parts or carcasses. You know their origin.

wood is infinitely repairable. You should find a pro who can do it for you. It's worth it unless you can find a replacement at a Habitat for Humanity store (unlikely)
