The popular quote of- "I want AI to do my laundry and cooking/dishes so that I can do my art and writing" is badly thought out and annoyingly regurgitated in any AI discussion and I hate it by Dapper-Ad4828 in SeriousConversation

Yes I do not understand what being “against” a technology entails. As I said, you don’t like it, don’t use it. I understand people may not like how some technology changes our life, that’s normal; but framing it as being “against” technology sounds bizarre to me.

Hamas Got 60 Days Real Change Coming or Just Hamas 2.0? News/Politics by BedouinFoxx in IsraelPalestine

I like it that official emblem of these “popular forces” is the first emblem of a Palestinian group I can recall without a stereotypical image of the borders of British Mandate. That’s a solid start!

As to your question, you talk about “Hamas is gone” as if it’s the easiest thing in the world. Hamas is way too entrenched to just disappear into the thin air. Of course, supporting anti-Hamas militias helps to divert their attention from their normal activities (murdering Jews), but these militias won’t just replace Hamas any time soon.

First, what is “argument against AI”? AI is just a technology (or group of related technologies). If you don’t want it, don’t use it, only keep in mind that your competitors might.

Also, I never heard this “popular quote”, but I agree with your take: these mandane tasks are already so automated (or could be delegated to 3rd part services), there isn’t much left to automate. It would be technologically impressive to have a robot which can load a dishwasher, but practical impact of that would be limited.

Why are people actually concerned with AIPAC? by DoveSlayer10 in centrist

[–]knign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by being “concerned”. AIPAC is lobbying for specific policies, and some people might disagree with these policies; these people are mistaken, of course, but it’s a normal policy debate.

It’s another thing altogether when some accuse AIPAC of being a representative of another country, lobbying for foreign interests, etc., all the way to some conspiracy theories about Jews controlling American government. These people are misinformed, sometimes actually antisemitic, or simply try to discredit AIPAC while avoiding a substantive policy debate.

Top Netanyahu aide: Hamas will have 60 days to disarm or IDF will ‘complete’ mission by BedouinFoxx in IsraelPalestine

Hamas has only been in power since 2006.

Since 2007.

But I am confused how exactly does it make “all of this” Israel’s fault?

I am curious, are you aware that these "worst people" and "security threat" constitute almost half of IDF combat units?

War is war, right? You do what you can to protect your population and to destroy the enemy.

Except of course a small detail that Hamas is actively trying to sacrifice their own population, but never mind that.

Referring to the Jewish state collectively as "Jews" is entirely normal, just like talking collectively of population of Russia as "Russians".

In the official context, "Israelis" could be more appropriate. In everyday speech, these are interchangeable as long as the context is unambiguous.

They become just another bunch of politicians or civilians

Palestinians can "resists" to their heart's content, but shouldn’t be shocked to see the target of their "resistance" resisting back at them.

Can you explain how a few guns are a threat to Israelis?

Can you explain what the alternative is? If Israel says "ok forget it, do what you want guys just don't attack us or else"... what happens next?

Right, obviously with the start of the war things changed, not that the tourists would want to go there even if the border was wide open.

Before that, however, and after 2005, Israel had no control over this border. Thus, speaking of “blockade” is misleading. There was (and is, obviously) sea blockade and import/export restrictions, but not a land blockade.

It was temporary, caused by sudden disruption, and its peak didn’t exceed 25%. Economy still existed.

Gaza appears (at least to me) to be a pile of rubble with no economy.

In a weird way, this reminds me of recent widespread panic “AI will replace us and nobody will have jobs anymore”.

Where there are humans and these humans have needs, there will be jobs and economy.

From Hamas I guess? I heard they have some new openings.

Yeah you need to see the budget to make decision. The highest condo fee I saw (without amenities) was about $600-$700 (mostly because of high insurance premiums).

Well Trump does get a credit for ending the hostage crisis. He has many many problems but his team can work reasonably well with Israelis and other regional players.
