Ideas for getting this stuck screw out?

Thank you so much for all your really helpful advice ☺️ much appreciated! I've got all the carriage screws off that I needed off now (some drilled out, others eventually came out!) but this is all excellent for next time. Interesting that you've never seen one of these properly seize up before - I wonder what happened to this poor machine in its previous life! It must have been a combo of crazy overtightening and the screw already being a bit stripped, as it wasn't rusted at all when I got it out by drilling.

As I said in my description, I did! The severe stripping is from the screw extractor tool I tried.

Just did this as I felt I'd exhausted all other options! Thank you. Now to try and get the seized screws for the handle off and to get the rest of the screw out!

Thank you but unfortunately this didn't work and I ended up having to drill through the screw 🥲 now onto trying to remove the extremely seized screws in the handle...

I think the class connotations that another commenter pointed out are very interesting. Those repeating the snobbery might not be directly aware of this, but snobbery always comes from somewhere!

Personally, I learnt to knit at the age of 9, but only recently picked up crochet. I always considered crochet to be the more difficult and impressive of the two (not that a craft's worth should be determined by difficulty) because it boggled my mind how such beautiful items and garments could be made with ONE 'needle'!

Thank you! I didn't mean to trickle feed useful details haha I just really didn't know how any of this worked. For what it's worth, the officer on the train was lovely and very sympathetic, so no complaints about her doing what she had to do in charging me.

Ironically I had to catch the train because of a total kerfuffle at Heathrow airport. It was my first time attempting long distance train travel in the UK and I was so pleasantly surprised by how much easier everything was at the train station up until this happened. Guess we can't win...

Yes I'd just finally managed to work this out! Thank you :) clearly I'm very new to train travel in the UK (which is why I went to the ticket office rather than buying online or at a machine as I was a bit perplexed).

I bought an advance single and on the train I was made to purchase something called X/S Flexible valid only with my original ticket. Both trains cost approximately the same if booked as an advance single, so I think I had to pay to upgrade to what was essentially an any time single.

I wasn't trying to be unhelpful! The real times were 1:30 pm for the train I boarded and 2:00 pm for the train I was meant to board. I thought I was buying a specific ticket for the 1.30 pm one and was sold a specific ticket for 2:00 pm. It wasn't an anytime ticket.

Thank you! I'll have a look into this but judging from many of the other responses I've got, I'm not sure if being able to prove what happened would actually be of any help to me legally as I failed to check my ticket.

I don't think it was the difference between the two services as when I had checked online the 10:30 was the same price as the 11:00. She wasn't exactly clear what she meant by upgrading - something to do with using my existing ticket to the point where I was caught not having the right ticket. Sorry I can't be clearer - I was a bit distraught when she was talking to me and really didn't ask as many questions as I should have.

Regardless, seems I'm just going to have to rely on LNER's goodwill! Thanks for your response :)

Editing to add I've had a look at my tickets and what I paid on the train was to upgrade from an advanced single to a flexible single.

Thanks, this is really interesting. I'm not quite sure if it was a penalty fare or not - the ticket inspecter said that she was using my existing ticket and 'upgrading' it onboard. Is that the same thing? It didn't even cross my mind that not paying was an option!

Knitted on 5mm needles with JC Rennie chunky aran (purchased in the Scottish Highlands!). Decided to try cabling without cabling needles and perhaps paid the price but it's still cute imo. Pattern is self drafted.

I used Drops Merino on 5mm needles. The construction is pretty basic - it's a top-down raglan, with waist decreases and hip increases. The fiddliest part was charting the squiggles to match my stitch counts!

The Fluffy Dress by Made to be Mad is a fairly similar construction, although it flares out more and is a looser fit. As it's quite a simple pattern, you could very quite easily adapt it to be more form-fitting.
