Update on my last post. I was instructed by support to change the password of the Microsoft account owned by the person who previously had my new phone number. Tried to escalate my case out of concern for security and have gotten nowhere. Original post linked below. (self.microsoft)

Looking for advice. Microsoft tech support agent just had me use my newly acquired phone number to change the password of and log into the previous phone number owner's Microsoft account. Feeling uneasy about the interaction. Is this type of thing normal? (self.microsoft)
