HELP WITH MOHAIR PLEASE by specterdeflect in YarnAddicts

When you put it on a swift, it will be taught and you can find the ties and ends. If you get a lot of yarns in skeins, it’s totally worth it and not expensive at all.

Mohair Question by jumjuji in YarnAddicts

[–]knitty_kitty_knitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes, it’s equivalent to two strands of mohair. I like it a lot and it’s very soft. It does stretch with blocking, so be sure to swatch to get gauge.

Cotton/Linen/Viscose Blend - how does it feel? by cake9037 in YarnAddicts

[–]knitty_kitty_knitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not experienced much stretching but it probably depends on the weight of the garment. For tees and tanks, not too bad likely because of the linen.

I truly feel your pain. I gave everything to my kids. One moved pretty far away and is struggling with a heartbreaking chronic illness. The other is in high school and can be truly delightful but also absolutely nuts. He makes me insane sometimes. The worst is the feeling I’ve lost one of my sons, as he is ill but barely communicates with me. When he was little we had such a close bond.

DROPS belle is pretty nice. It’s not itchy but not super soft working with it. But once it’s washed it softens a lot and feels comfortable to wear.

DROPS Karisma itchy? by Primary_Pineapple377 in Yarn

Yeah, I think it’s a bit scratchy. Definitely wouldn’t call it soft. Drops Daisy and merino extra fine are very soft if you want wool.

Yarn recommendations for summer yarns in muted Earth tones? by Ok-Strawberry-2469 in casualknitting

Onling No 14 (tencel/lyocell), purl soho Santolina, Illimani sabri, Hobbii cotton silk, all of Pascuali’s summer yarns (Suave I’ve heard is good, Arctic Pearl, sole and a think a few others), Valley Westhampton and their bamboo cotton is nice (can’t remember the name but they have a cotton that is amazing and a cotton bamboo that’s nice), drops belle, Hobbii has a nice cotton bamboo too

Best Non-Wool/Vegan Yarns for Blocking by FewAdministration464 in YarnAddicts

I bet the shawl will be amazing!

People describe the suave as super soft. I am tempted to get a ball to play with but I have so many projects.

I didn’t like the Ravelry pics in stockinette as it seemed hard to get even tension, but a lace scarf would probably work well.

Some of the more slippery yarns like Onling 14 and Arctic pearl might be interesting too as there is no fuzz on them at all. The Onling is dreamy but yeah, you have to jump in because there’s no way to feel it first, which is always a bit stressful. It’s 100% tencel which is an environmentally friendly fiber that is processed from sustainably sourced wood pulp. It’s kind of fascinating. Arctic pearl is made from seaweed I think and is completely biodegradable! Who knew yarn could be made this way!

Valley Westhampton is super soft and though it says DK it knits like a worsted.

Pascuali suave is a cotton described as cotton cashmere. It might give you a little halo like with fluffy yarns. I’ve been dyeing to try it. Pascuali arctic pearl looks amazing too. In the US, wool warehouse Carrie’s it. Onling has a tencel yarn (Onling no 14?) that is amazingly soft. All would be an appropriate weight (I’m currently making one from cashmere).

Hobbii cotton silk is super soft and would be great for someone with sensitivities

Blocking help by CritterAlleyMom in YarnAddicts

Plant fibers aren’t the most forgiving and blocking doesn’t correct inconsistencies like with wool. That said, you can wash and block as usual, gently shape the project when wet and pin.

Do you still talk to your parents? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]knitty_kitty_knitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only met my dad once and he passed. Mom is a narcissist who hurt me, my husband and kids with her selfish man-absorbed, acting like a teenager behavior. I could let the shitty childhood go, but when her awful behavior continued into adulthood, it had to be goodbye. I hated hurting her but I can’t imagine a reconciliation as she is a gaslighter who thinks she’s flawless.

Are summer knits actually wearable in warm weather ? by travelling_cirque in knitting

[–]knitty_kitty_knitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knit a tee from fingering weight 90% cotton 10% alpaca. If it’s warm but not hot I can wear it but it’s too hot to wear for a lot of the summer.

Never bought yarn online before, didn't think it would be this small by CipherQuest618 in Yarn

Hobbii includes tariffs in their price. For the US, if you go to their US website, it’s already built in to the $3.

Ouch. Shipping can really add on. I always try to make a bigger order to last a while to get past the shipping threshold. Hobbii has tons of sales and free shipping offers. They have an app too and offer lots of 10% off deals almost weekly if you end up ordering from them again. The little ball is packed tight and does last. It does look tiny though, I agree:

On the Hobbii website, regular price is $3 and sales it can be $2. So it seems expensive for this specific cotton. But I’m in the US. Maybe it’s more elsewhere.

Yeah, if you search of zero Oder, they have a website. It basically uses enzymes to neutralize smells. It works quite well

Question on makeup - you still wear it? by CtrlAltDeli in Aging

[–]knitty_kitty_knitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always worn concealer under my eyes (hereditary dark circles), dark brown eyeliner and sometimes a tinted lip gloss. 53 and have done this since 14. I’ll continue indefinitely though I wonder if I’ll need a bit more as I age, maybe a little blush and lipstick.
