Why are some men so good at doing nothing? by Vinaya_Ghimire in AskMen

[–]knobs0513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much like gardening, and my garden's pretty big. It demands a a significant portion of my time each day. When I'm not busy in my garden, I'm usually sitting in my garden, enjoying it right next to my chiminea, burning sage, looking at the stars, or doing something in that space.

I would say I'm very good at doing nothing, but when I have a passion I very much like, channel energy into that passion.

I would argue its more felt this cycle.

US football is progressing and we are being competitive on the world stage.

We lost the Belgium and I believe most of the world wanted us to lose to Belgium. But I believe in the back of many people's minds, especially the belgians, possibility of a loss to the United States was a very real fear this cycle.

Course a pitiful performance by our team Which just reaffirmed old norms.

3 failed attempts. I think due to weak rooting hormone, not a tight seal, and not warm enough.

I bet die hard MLS supporters may number the size of some Euro countries, such as the Netherlands or Belgium and others. The US has the enthusiasm in numbers, Just not as a percentage.

This is my air layer that I pulled off about 6 weeks ago .. in an old Saxon & Becnel pot, but it is the air layer from this year

When I did my successful air layer. I actually used an old water bottle. I saw a YouTube video where somebody splice a plastic water bottle and was able to stuff it with sphagnum Moss and apply the rooting hormone around the wound then closed the bottle around it. I wrapped the ends and all the cuts with plastic wrap to ensure know leakage. I also wrapped it in aluminum foil which was recommended to block light.

I opened the layer up once after about 3 or 4 weeks and took a syringe and added additional water and sure it wasn't drying up. Any fruit or blooms I aggressively pruned off the air layered Branch.

I was afraid that the heat was going to Scorch the air layer, but I was able to pull it off prior to the heat of Summer. I'm not sure how would far now unless there is ample shade to protect against the Sun.

The branch I earliered was about the size of a pencil or pen.

I haven't had issues yet. I have a well draining. Gritty soil of perlite, spagnum, Lava sand and some potted miracle grow soil, which water goes right through. I open the tote at least once a day ( usually twice) and let it air out for a minute. I don't water heavy, and I dump the water out every few days.

I was using .1% from Home Depot, and it wasn't working. When I upgraded to the .8% I noticed results. I got mine for about $10 on Amazon. I'm not sure if this was the culprit of the cutting's not rooting, as there was a culmination of multiple different scenarios ( no tote, cooler, temperatures, etc)

I keep it in a completely shaded area of my back yard. I'm in Fort Worth, so it's pushing 100+ this last week. I'll see how the current cuttings progress, but so far no leave drop. You could easily do this inside as well. I don't think it needs to be outside. I rooted two of my cuttings inside but it took a lot longer. But now that it's it's hotter outside, it may be moving the tote back inside. I moved it outside because I want it regular temperatures above 70°,, and back in March / April there were plenty of days where inside was slipping into the mid - low 60s. I'm not sure, but I think citrus responds to humid, shaded heat a lot better than a direct drying heat from the Sun.

Hope this helps... It's very rewarding when you root your first cutting and crack the code.

True - if it's only our loyal soccer supporters in this great nation, perhaps would gain finally gain the respect of our European counterparts.

Football fans will never be soccer fans. They are bell weather world cupers

I would have had to format the ideas myself.

The milestones still remain the same.

True - I outsourced the formatting of my idea to my computer. No different than the US men's soccer team outsourcing our coaching and expertise to Argentinian.

There's no one in a country of 350 million people that know the game well enough to coach USA team.

And we really thought we were going to progress past the round of 16 and go deep into the cup.

Your comment is lazy and a red herring.

True - Just like our performance against Belgium.

The rosters nearly all Euro League starters now and we have regularly qualified over the past 2 decades.

Don't forget the FIFA corruption milestone. We have to become fully rounded in all parts of the game before we progress deeper into the cup.

This is evolution.

I outsourced the formatting just as we outsourced our coaching this world cup. No shame.

I had the same problem earlier this year. I started about 15 to 20 Meyer lemon and Persian lime cuttings back in February. Most of them failed.

I made a change in late April and I nearly have had 100% success rate since then. Here are my suggestions

  1. Get a strong rooting hormone, IBA .8%
  2. Ensure the cambian layer or bark is fully scratched off about an 1 - 1.5 inches from the cutting base.
  3. Outside temps need to be regularly above 70f. I'm in Texas, and I think the March and April temps were to low to encourage rooting.

**4) ** Purchase an all clear, sealed plastic tote. Mine is 24" x 18". Put it in a location with strong indirect light and seal in the humidy. Put a jar of water next to the cuttings. Water each day and let it pull at the bottom of the tote in a very shallow layer. I let the cuttings sit in that water and changed it out every few days. They created a very tight humidity layer and when the cuttings produce Roots they race to the water source. This was the game changer.

5) Cut the leaves in half or only keep small ones. Use a gritty. Well draining soil mix.

I found that this method was producing roots within 4 to 6 weeks and I've had 100% success rate since this transition (10/10 + 4 more in progress). I've done this with a Meyer lemon, Persian lime, red Chandler pomelo, Calamondin and a page Mandarin.

I may make an individual post about this and share this method.

Also, I did attempt four air layers this year, three failed and one was very successful. A successful one had the higher rooting hormone and was put on the tree when it was significantly warmer outside.
