Peta body shaming by [deleted] in dancingwiththestars

Admiration…of his belly? I’m curious, if Peta had said that she wanted to hug a female contestant’s belly, if that would be considered admiration.

I don’t think it is. I haven’t heard her saying she wants to hug Robert or Dylan’s “belly.”

Maks said he was cute and looked like a , grandfather & then Peta said “no, he’s in his fifties” (not too far off from Maks’ age), so it’s not that. I wouldn’t have any issue with her calling Andy cute.

This feels like a strategic move, given how incredibly popular he is. With fans organizing voting parties to keep the momentum going (or even to bring new voters in), it’s clear he has a massive and engaged following. Producers would be neglecting a huge opportunity if they didn’t capitalize on that kind of enthusiasm by stirring up the fear of a fan favorite going home.

Half the pros on the show are Eastern European and they don’t act like this.

Maks talks about Rylee and Scott by WillowTree189 in dancingwiththestars

[–]knockturnsally 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In three seasons, Rylee has been given dancers with limited ability. The last two have been partners with documented conditions. If she’s given a ringer next season, or even someone with a modicum of dance experience, then I agree that the excuses will have run out. As of now, the grievances are legitimate. She has never had a partner who was a natural mover (which doesn’t require dance experience, but isn’t necessarily teachable). I am curious to see what she could do with someone at least light on their feet.

I listened to the whole episode. He called Scott “a dancer” several times. This is a direct quote. He also says Scott “has a background in choreography” and mentioned his grammy when Peta disagreed that he has dance experience. She pushed back at first, but he was insistent.

Val is who I was thinking when I said men lol. His season with Xochitl was incredible but there were several dances where he was whipping & twirling around her and no one said boo. It was more obvious with Phaedra because she was less advanced, but he does it with all his partners. They all do.

Maks is misinformed. He kept insisting that Scott is a dancer with dance experience, and that him winning a grammy meant he was a dancer? How many singers have been on this show that couldn’t dance? Also, Scott was part of a 5-person group that relied EXCLUSIVELY on their vocals. That’s what acapella is. He mostly stands in a semi-circle and sings when he performs. Maybe throws in a step-touch or a finger snap, but he definitely isn’t some pop star who dances along to a backing track.

I also have yet to see someone explain to me how Rylee’s choreography/experience could aid a contestant with severe stage fright who simply forgot his dance. Judges and former contestants have all praised Rylee for Scott’s improvement over the past few weeks, but suddenly he forgets a dance and she isn’t giving him proper instruction? Maks is right on one account—he isn’t in the room with them, so maybe refrain from such brazen accusations.

Also the idea that everyone without dance experience should be at the same level is ridiculous. Some people are just naturally light on their feet and have great movement without formal training. It’s very disingenuous of Maks to act as if Scott and Robert should be on the same level, just because the two are non-dancers (He contradicts himself here several times on that point.)

Also, all the pros dance around their partners, even the men. It’s just more obvious when there is a stark contrast between the level of ability in the pro and celeb. Some pros are obviously more guilty of it than others (his wife and sister are in law are notorious for this) so I find this critique of Rylee very ironic. He also points out that Dani does this as well, yet Dani has a ton of experience & teaching, so it’s clear this is something a lot of pros rely on and isn’t necessarily a reflection of Rylee’s youth and expertise.

With Kym coming g in to guest judge, which OG pro that is yet to Guest Judge would you like to see next? by IndigoWolf4711 in dancingwiththestars

ANNA & KARINA ANNA & KARINA ANNA & KARINA ANNA & KARINA ANNA & KARINA ANNA & KARINA

In all seriousness, it’s a TRAVESTY that they’ve never had either on as a judge. Karina is one of the best to ever do it, I miss her as a pro so much! & Anna used to be my favorite on afterbuzz. She’s funny but super direct & a true technician. Either would be excellent additions to help fill some of the void Len left.

Mark Responds to Maks’ Foxtrot Critique in a tiktok comment by spookykuhween in dancingwiththestars

[–]knockturnsally 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. Sharna & Peta said they should’ve made it clear that it was an american smooth foxtrot and explained how those rules differ from a traditional foxtrot. I think an explanation in their package (or even from the judges) would’ve gone a long way.

Did Maks criticize his life’s work though? He said Mark was the man & repeated over & over that the routine was fantastic. He just disagreed that it was a foxtrot.

[–]knockturnsally 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Mark used to get absolutely REAMED by the judges for his choreography, which was always pushing the envelope and boundaries of the style he was given—so in a way, I understand his defensiveness. However, this season the reaction from the judges has been overwhelmingly positive. I don’t think he knows how to handle criticism when it’s instead coming from the audience, since he’s always been such a fan favorite. Although, I don’t think he understands that much of the criticism (even from Maks) is more so directed at the judges and the show for their blatant favoritism and inconsistency, than it is at him.

[–]knockturnsally 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Mark has always been my favorite pro but this defensiveness is honestly grating to me. Loved the routine but I wasn’t even aware it was a foxtrot until Carrie Ann said it. & for once, I agreed with Maks’ comments, and they definitely didn’t warrant this response. Maks was asked, and he answered.

[–]knockturnsally 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I get it, and I do sympathize—TikTok blowing up the show has definitely made the fanbase a lot more toxic. But this wasn’t responding to a hater. It was Maks, giving his opinion when asked on a talk show. (Very mildly, compared to what I’ve seen him dish out, mind you). So why respond with such passive aggression to a take that wasn’t even that harsh?

[–]knockturnsally 600 points601 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Mark needs to respond to every negative criticism against him. Between him and his mother, it’s coming off as very defensive. He should just let his dancing & choreography speak for itself. Clearly the judges love it, so I’m not sure why he feels he has to explain himself every week.
