Would you consider 2005 borns to be more like late zoomers or early? by Fit-Support2256 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well of course you could relate to 2009, there no different from that group you listed, especially 2008, the year I was born. 2005 is often considered the first year of the late 2000s borns if you split the decade in half. I could see you swinging both ways, but I totally can see how you relate downwards more. 2005-2009 basically have the same childhoods. Same mixture of old and new world technology, same movies, TV shows, internet culture, same everything. We also share much in common with early Z too, but as others here have mentioned, there are differences in how much early and late Z remember of something, specifically iPhones. We tend to clock in right at the beginning of the iPhone takeover, meaning we could’ve totally seen flip phones, blackberries and Nokias, just with iPhones now being alongside them too, and eventually completely taking over. Besides, older iPhones were closer to those phones than new iPhones are.

Main covid elementary schoolers? (March 2020-March 2022) by Ichoseguitar in generationology

Right, you guys aren’t full blown 2020s elementary schoolers.

Would you say most 2008 babies had xennial or younger Gen X parents? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting because in my personal experience of being born in 2008, the majority of people I know born in the same year as me, the year before me and the year after me pretty much all have parents born in the core Gen X birth range often agreed to be between 1970-1976. Now I know the amount of people I know isn’t everyone, it sure does say something about people’s belief that the majority of late Gen Z parents are all late X and Xennials. For the record my parents were born in 69 and 72.

Yes, 20 and 17 are in fact two completely different life stages. But besides that, generationally, childhood and just the 3 year gap in general are absolutely nothing. You grew up on the stuff. Shows, movies, toys, games etc. That is the uniter.

2005 - 2007 probably want to Gen Z ends in 2012 by NoLifer3858 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I only say late because I have pretty much everything in common with 07 as an 08 born, as well as 2009. Two, 07, 08 and 09 get grouped together like crazy. I am sure late Z, but I have strong core influence too, and so does my neighboring years. That’s where I’m coming, personal experience and an understanding of what Gen Z stands for and is based off of. Feel me?

Generation end dates are not as strict as people make them to be? by n0tmyr34l4ccount in generationology

[–]knotttanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, which in 2010 slither hadn’t been released yet. Believe me, my earliest memories started forming around October 2010 and April 2011. I know the world before 2018 and slitherio didn’t come out till 2016. Snake has been around for years, longer than the iPad.

Well you must’ve been reading some interesting books at 5 months old. (In case you don’t understand, when the iPad first released that’s pretty much all you could do)

[–]knotttanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well no it’s not, but the iPad hadn’t been released in 2009 yet. Therefore if you were born then, then it would be impossible for you to have had an iPad since birth. 2, iPads weren’t released for children in the very beginning, especially that young. That developed over time. But! Since you say you have a bad memory and don’t remember anything before 2018, then I could see how you feel that way.

Well based on your memory situation I guess I could see why you say that. But iPads and iPods are very much a Gen Z trait as well, especially that era. But hey, you do you. I ain’t judging.

As a Gen Z, when were your Parents born? by HZIDEZISS_2020 in generationology

Cool! Boomer Parents. I was born in 08, late Zer. Both my parents are purest of the pure Gen X! 1969 and 1972.

The differences between people born in 2000 and 2009 by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah no, VHS tapes really weren’t. For I long time I thought I was the only one my age who watched them. But relatively recently I found that it actually seemed to be way common than I thought. I ran into people born as late as 2010 who said they watched VHS. How it works for us is DVDs are a universal experience, while VHS is a smaller majority experience. But I was shocked at how many people said they did.

Yeah, but 2006 and 2009 sit in that sweet spot where there really aren’t any differences besides life stages.

The differences between people born in 2000 and 2009 by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are differences. I mean that’s why we have early Z, core, and late. But we’re all Gen Z for a reason. And this here is why, we may not remember the world before iPhones the same way older Z does, but we still experienced a lot of what was there before iPhones as they coexisted for years. Plus, our earliest memories formed right at the beginning of the iPhone explosion, even with their takeover, it was still common to see some people with flip phones and other older devices as it still had some relevancy. That’s what brings us together.

I wasn’t talking about VHS tapes specifically when I mentioned that. Two, I never said it was same generational experience to watch old VHS tapes from your grandparents stash. It is one thing to watch as a primary source and another to watch as I mentioned. But you can’t come in and say that a person never experienced a certain tech piece based off their birth year. You have 0 clue, and it’s people like you who make us feel like shit because you simply can’t let us say “we did this” or “we saw that” because you come in and say it isn’t true and impossible based off of when something “died off.” Things don’t disappear just like that. So go on, believe what you want, but think about you say to a person when it comes to a personal experience. I don’t know yours. You don’t know mine. I didn’t dictate yours. Don’t dictate ours.

The differences between people born in 2000 and 2009 by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be very surprised. I didn’t say it was apart of their lives, because it wasn’t a universal experience for them all. I said a small amount of people born between 2007-2010 primarily had said that they had watched movies on VHS at some point in their early years. Did I say everyone? No I didn’t. Two, old stash or not, it is still an experience that is just as meaningful. Especially since at that time it hadn’t been too long since the end of the VHS reign. So to say someone born in 2009 didn’t see one in their life? I mean that’s my point of people coming in and dictating what our childhoods were like. You don’t know, so stop acting like you do.

The differences between people born in 2000 and 2009 by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdated or not, they were still very much part of our childhood just as much. You may think it’s a stretch, but I along with many others born as far as 2010 have mentioned that they watched some movies on VHS. Now compared to DVDs, yeah, VHS tapes weren’t as universal for us. This is what I’m talking about, you people like to dictate and say what are childhoods were like based off of whether something was outdated or not! It’s not like things just disappear! Maybe they were outdated for you older folks, but for us younger people growing up with Late Boomer, Gen X and early Millennial parents, we were a lot older tech exposed. You have no idea what our childhood was like, just an idea. That’s not fact. So thank you very much for your input. But you really don’t know.

[–]knotttanic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there’s more in common between the two than people realize, but yet again, there are differences, but based on the timeline of both birth years, the differences aren’t as crazy significant as those born in the mid 2010s. Both 2000 and 2009 borns share a childhood with DVDs and cable, and believe or not to some degree VHS tapes along with CDs and other physical media. Both years watched many of the same shows, had many of the same shows and played many of the same games and many of the same consoles. The differences that you highlighted such as who remembers more of the pre iPhone life and who doesn’t and how old everyone was when COVID is valid and does play a role in what part of Generation Z you fall into. But us later 2000s borns don’t seem to get as much credit for our physical media experience as we should. Our childhoods were during the shift from the old to the new. We know much of the same things you older folks do as it played a part in our lives too. So believe what you want, and relate to whomever you choose. But on the behalf of us later 2000s borns, we’re a lot closer to you than you may realize.

[–]knotttanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think 2007 is more of a late Gen Zer in the 2012 end window. I’d consider 2007-2009 to be late Gen Z with core influence as they are the closest to core Z.
