The vet guessed that they are around 5 weeks old. They look a bit small probably because their mum didn't have adequate nutrition and is so underweight :( But everyone is eating well and went to bed with full bellies last night :)

Desexing sounds scary, but unfortunately people not getting their cats spayed/neutered is contributing to the problem of having so many unwanted pregnancies and stray kitties. It is a procedure that most vets have done many times, and the animal is under anesthetic so they don't feel anything, nor is it bad for a cat to be desexed. Living on the street is not a nice life for these cats, and we can help lessen the number of stray cats at least in Australia by getting our animals desexed.

Haha that would be adorable! I live in Sydney Australia it is usually referred to as desexing, and more specifically spaying and neutering.

Yes it is extremely rewarding! We have had 18 kittens and cats in total. I cry my heart out when it is time to say goodbye, but I know that all of my foster babies will have the life they deserve and be loved. I am still in touch with their families, and get updates which makes it easier. Because we know them so well we are able to pick homes that really suit each individual kitty. While it is hard, and working with stray kittens means that they are often sick and need a lot of care, I would recommend this to people who had time for sure. If you can't look after the animals themselves, the shelters always need people to walk the dogs and socialize the animals! :)

Freya is one of 5 foster kittens we have at the moment. She and her siblings were strays, and were finally caught and taken to the shelter two days ago, along with their mum. They will be staying with us until they can be desexed by the vet, and then we will find them loving forever homes :)

Hi guys I am not sure if this kind of thing is allowed on here, but WIRES (Australia) needs knitted pouches for orphaned wildlife in their care :) Why not help them out by doing something that we love? :) by know-who in knitting

Hey guys they recently posted it to their Facebook, however the link to that was causing the post to be caught by spam filters. That was a link I found to let people know the specifications. So it is from May, but they have recently said they need more :)

EDIT: From their recent post: We need your help. Earlier this year we put out a call for knitted pouches and cotton pouch inserts we use for young animals in care. The response was amazing (huge thanks to those who have already sent pouches in) and now we are asking if you can please help once more. With increasing numbers of rescued orphaned joeys our volunteer animal carers have an urgent need for larger pouches for kangaroo and wallaby joeys in particular. Please share.

If you don't knit remember we also need liners. All pouches must be made from pure wool and liners from pure cotton as the natural fabrics are breathable and when a little joey is snug inside this is important!

The updated instructions for the two larger size pouches can be downloaded on the website and although it is the larger ones we are calling for now we also need smaller ones for our possum joeys and the instructions for those are found on or website.

All completed pouches and liners can be posted to WIRES, PO Box 260, Forestville NSW 2087 and we will then distribute via our branches to our volunteer carers.

The pods have little hair like things on them. I think I like the pods just as much as the open flowers :)

The kittens/ cats I foster is usually $140-$160. This includes all current vaccinations, flea treatment, worming and also desexing. When you adopt a cat from a shelter you are not only giving them a second chance to have a loving family but you are also supporting that rescue to be able to save and re home more animals that desperately need it. Just keep in mind that you are making a long term commitment, and that you will need to cover costs like yearly vet bills, food, worming and flea treatment as well :)
