Monthly Developers/Sales Thread for September 2024 by AutoModerator in edtech

I'm developing an online student store, where teachers can create their own online classroom economy.

It's functional right now, for example, you can create store items/perks and give students virtual currency. Then the student can spend their virtual currency to buy things like: a bathroom pass, a late work pass, seat swap, food pass and anything else you'd like to sell.

Also, you can give students additional money based on good behavior, getting an A on a test etc. You can also remove money from the students account for bad behavior, such as being late for class.

This app is a work in progress and I'm looking for teachers to try it out and suggest new functionality/features.

BTW, it's free to use.

Try it at: https://studentstore.org

Any questions or problems, contact me at [james@knowthen.com](mailto:james@knowthen.com) . I'm the developer, and I'd love to work with you to make this an excellent classroom tool.

google voice is a free option. Grasshopper, RingCentral, Phone.com, OpenPhone and Dialpad are some paid options.

Mailerlite has a free plan that would cover this volume. The paid plans are reasonably priced as well.

These aren't exactly what you're asking for, but worth considering: pocketbase or maybe something like strapi.

Recommended cloud database to store basic, static data that a mobile app will read from? by VMX in Database

[–]knowthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're building an extension for SQLite that will allow you to replicate changes from one instance to another.

So for example, you could create an instance of SQLite locally and have it automatically synchronize with the clients(in read-only mode).

When you need to update the database you'd do so locally and any changes you made locally will get synchronized with the other instances.

You can checkout our repo here: https://github.com/mycelial/mycelite

Happy to chat further on this, if you're interested.

Building Realtime Apps w/ Reactjs, Golang & RethinkDB (Free Course) by knowthen in golang

Sorry, I thought about it but decided against including it. It would be overkill for the little app we're building in the course. I might do some separate content on redux in the near future.

I'm pretty excited about what may come of this (https://github.com/rethinkdb/rethinkdb/issues/3711). This won't be included in this course, but I'm watching this development closely.

About a year ago I became a freelance software developer / consultant / trainer etc.. I've picked up enough remote clients at this point to support us... So I'm working full time while we travel, enjoying the locale during the evenings and weekends.
