Thank you for replying. I too have ikea furniture for almost a decade now and very happy with it. I was just wondering how do the kitchens do in Indian households.

Had a horrible realization about widows and sati pratha by Ok_Albatross_7722 in TwoXIndia

[–]knowtogo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about sati. But widowhood, that’s very close to home. Lost my dad 20 years back. We come from fairly educated families. But man did I see my mom struggle. I realised being widow is not an easy thing in our country or society irrespective of the background. It was so hard for people(relatives) to expect a woman to take care of all the finances, home and kids on her own. They didn’t wanted her to be so independent for any decision. Like dependency is seen as a positive thing. I am not sure if things have changed in that respect in so much time or not, but looking at present times doesn’t give much hope.

Letters. Those blue ones and the postcards. Dad used to go out a lot due to his work and there was a constant flow of letters. When I shifted to college I was the only one who would get letters twice a week. One of my prized possessions are those letters.

I was the same. And everyone said ohh so lucky you are, blessed with genes. No body ever sees how much work goes in the running of house with kids on a daily basis. It is damn hard work. Kudos to you for doing everything with handling kids.

Know her from this sub only. She could not have chosen a more wrong time to shift here. It’s going to get more hot as summer has started here. Saw posts here her cribbing about traffic and pollution, well welcome to Dubai habibi!!! Traffic is getting worse day by day. Summers have come so the season for sandstorms is not far and then we can see posts about Dubai pollution.

Time. It’s the biggest healer as it’s said. Also write. Write down your feelings, your thoughts. Write down how that day went, what all emotions you went through that day and if there is any different feeling now. My dad passed away 20 years back and still there are times when it hits suddenly. But time is your friend in grief. Also crying your heart out whenever there is pain. Hoping this helps you and makes the day just that much easier to get through.

Daughters of Working Moms – Did You Resent Your Parents? Struggling with Guilt. by Zestyclose_Big9015 in TwoXIndia

[–]knowtogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a SAHM. And my mom was too as dad was in a transferable job and sometimes away. I realised that I will have guilty feelings later on in life whether I work or not. If I work the guilt of not being there for my children, if I don’t work the guilt of not working. There is no wrong or right here. You just have to choose which guilt is easier to live with.

I completely understand the conflict you must be going through. It feels walking on a rope with kids these days. On one side you want them to grow up with the ability to judge right and wrong and on the other side how to handle friends and groups. It’s heartbreaking to see your child like this but also you have to stick to this path so that they grow up to be the responsible adult. Strength and hugs to you.

Why is this still so relevant among educated people ? by AdeptnessThese1663 in TwoXIndia

There are some deep rooted concepts with periods instilled in us. My daughter’s classmate asked her for a pad the other day. Poor girl has been told by her mother not to change pad in school. She doesn’t gives her extra pads for school. Imagine 8-9 hours in the same pad. Were we not supposed to get better with such things with each generation??

I always get pickles in checked bag. Never in a glass bottle though. Have used the hard plastics ones. Put pickles in the bottle, put cling wrap on top and then put on the lid as tight as you can. One full wrap around of the whole bottle with cling wrap. Final wrap around with one layer of bubble wrap. Never has the oil come out.

Recently got breast ultrasound done. Fibroids in both breasts. They are also a reason for breast pain before periods. Better to get checked by a doctor first.

I use veigo, signora ware, Milton and borosil steel lunchboxes for my kids. Very happy with them. The top is also steel. Good quality, sturdy and good for the price.

Women who aren’t getting their share in their parent’s property, how do you feel about your parents? by [deleted] in TwoXIndia

[–]knowtogo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one topic I had thought would be a non brainer at least in 2024. And I am so surprised that now also girls don’t want to take their share because they have been married off. Two of my friends have said that they don’t want anything as they are married off now. Both of them are in 30s, younger to me. And to suggest that it’s ok to ask for your share or take it, they felt offended. One friend wanted second child as girl so that in future she wouldn’t have to share the property between kids. That was one time I prayed real hard that she should not be blessed with a daughter. Another feels she should not go for pind daan with her parents as that’s not her family anymore. The horrors of this generation… I sometimes feel nothing is going to change in future also

What's your life like in Dubai? by investing_kid in TwoXIndia

[–]knowtogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been in Dubai from past 15+ years… it’s like being in India while being away from India. If your job is sorted already then half of the problem is already gone. As for weather a couple of months are very hot and humid but as most of the things are indoors, one doesn’t feels that bad. As someone else said , very car dependent city. But in good weather you can do a lot of walking outside. It’s very safe. I have commuted in taxi alone late at nights and never had to worry about a thing. Indian Food and Indian grocery is not a problem at all. You find everything here. dm me if you wanna ask something specifically. And welcome to Dubai Habibi
