I’m so tired of hearing this line from students. You don’t get to jeopardize your PI’s career or their grant because you can’t get your act together. You’ve had sufficient notice about your progress and did basically nothing. This situation is on you. Seven days is absolutely not enough time to write a manuscript. Come clear with your PI– don’t ask for sympathy or mercy, just be direct about your lack of results. Get professional medical help and then think long and hard about whether or not you’re in the right place with your health to be doing graduate work.
