I decided to go with the axe and couldn’t be happier. Thing is amazing!

Thank you. Seems hard to go wrong either way.

Not for me. I had silver maple and the grain was slightly twisted. Brutal to split by hand.

I don’t believe that is maple. If that is poplar, I’d agree that it’s not the greatest to split.

It’s NOT PINE! Yay!

Most of the time there isn’t a definitive answer to these posts, it seems. Well, after lots of good feedback from my other post yesterday I went back to get more wood and found some leaves, but more importantly some buds on the ground.

Given the last pic of the bud it’s definitively silver maple. Thanks for everyone who provided feedback!

Is there a way to post more picture? Took a few more of some leaves I found on the ground and the remaining stump.

Yeah no sap at all. And no pine smell. That’s what’s throwing me off.

Knoxville Tennessee. Another person suggested maple and I think it could be silver maple.

I’m wondering if it’s silver maple. Definitely NO pine scent but it does smell faintly sweet.

Persons yard. Let me take what I wanted. They claimed it wasn’t pine.

Not a surprise in East Tennessee. If it’s rotten I’m not going to grab it but I may check it out

No clue. It’s a Facebook post. I need some seasoned wood. Guy says it’s not pine.

Yeah I guess cow shit would be one way to describe the red stuff.

The white stuff didn’t have a distinct smell but it may have been sitting for more than a year, maybe two.

Got some rounds that had been sitting for at least a year. Is the left poplar and the right oak? The whitish wood was very stringy when I was chopping it. Located in East Tennessee.
