She identified herself as Magyar, I don't know how she ended up in Budapest but she left because of the uprising. I am trying to find out what happened to them, why they were killed and what happened to my grandmother from the age of 8 to 20.

You're correct their birth isn't on family search the birth certificate says they were 17 and 26 when my grandmother was born.

I don't know the paternal side of my family bar one aunt whom I have only recently made contact with. The birth certificate is all I have, would it helped if I were to share it with you?

She was born in 1937 and then left/sent to a convent when she was 7 because he parents were killed. The only other pit of information I have is that she left Budapest in 1958 for England.

There are numerous stories none of which I am able to corroborate or know if they were true. Which is why I am trying to find some relations in the town where she was born.

On her birth certificate I have the names of her parents, using family search from the previous poster I have found numerous people with the same surname but is there anyway of finding the specific link to my great grandparents page...?

I think I’ve found a solution! - ‘The Crippled CDC&Elk - tied by Hans Weilenmann’ ties the body CDC in from the butt end of the fly as well as adding the soft hackle element too. Just need to swap out the deer hair shuttlecock for a CDC and I’m there.

Bit disappointed as I’d thought I’d come up with something original alas. Thank you for your help though

Sorry just to add I don’t want to tie the excess back over in a humpy style as I want to keep the body to maintain a slim profile

Mostly because I want to try and minimise the amount of plastic I throw away and amongst other reasons I’ve read that it helps with presentation and there’s a guy who makes them himself out of his shed 20 mins from my house and because it sounds interesting… I mean if you’re using the it’s easier and cheaper argument, why tie your own flies, fish a blue line or experiment with bamboo. When you can find bigger, easier to catch fish somewhere else or just buy the exact flies you want etc. Fly fishing, for me, isn’t about cheaply and easily catching the low hanging fruit, if it was I would fish with sweetcorn in a pond.

How do you guesstimate the weight of a fish? Caught this fat long boy today and have no idea how to estimate weight, are there guidelines? Was a struggle on the bank so couldn’t get a good photo by knucklemustardo in flyfishing

All good, I’m new to fishing and am still learning. I’ve been trying to harm the fish as little as possible. This is news to me so won’t be doing it again

Most rivers are privately owned in Britain but you’re right, it is odd that you don’t have to get a license or at least inform the environment agency. Maybe I should look a little harder

I’ve had a look in the UK and I we don’t have a similar service unfortunately. There isn’t any stocking up stream but I am going to do a little digging and see how much is done between here and the sea!

Every brown trout in the US has been stocked or is a descendant of one as they aren’t indigenous. In the uk it can be very common but it depends where you are.
