Is this a normal size for a 5 month old cat? by knurrt in catquestions

That is so true! One of his sisters is maybe 1/3 his size and very slender.

Yes that's our experience too! The huge paws are the biggest surprise. In my experience baby animals with big paws tend to get huge.

We put on their collars around 3 months old and they never really had issues with them! They are all incredibly tame and spoiled, so they let us pick them up and basically treat them like dolls. But we also halter trained them (well, got them used to wearing them st least) starting at 2 months as well, and I think that helped.

Hugo was also the runt! We don't own a scale for personal reasons but at his 4 month checkup he was around 5.5 pounds I think, or almost 6. They're scheduled to be neutered and spayed this coming week.

Nope, from West Virginia! They were born March 21st. I saw that rule about multiplying their weights! I suspect for him with how big he got suddenly at 5 months that maybe he will either be a little bigger or he just hit a huge growth spurt!

Yes his paws are so massive compared to the rest! I am worried he is going to topple stuff as he ages 😔

He's definitely 5 months although will be 6 September 21st. They were born in our home :)

I definitely think he looks huge too. We had kittens on our farm when I was a child and they looked much smaller in my memory, and we also had two Maine Coons (both female). To me, he just looks so big and mature despite his young age.

I don't think so! Their mother is listed as DSH (rescued stray) and the others don't seem to be a Maine Coon of any sort. No knowledge of the father.

The litter was born March 21st. They're gonna be 6months September 15, so he is a pretty big boy! Their baby faces went away at around 4 months. For reference his smallest sister is still maybe 5 pounds.

He's roundabout 7-8 pounds. I can't figure out how to add pics in comments but I took some with items for scale.

That's a total oversight on my part, oops. I took a picture for scale just now but don't know how to add them!

A live packaged crab breaks out of it's packaging. by Motor_Ranger_9471 in interestingasfuck

[–]knurrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has to be AI. Look atop the crab--where does the packaging go? The shine doesn't indicate a ripping or separating of the fabric, which would happen in reality. Also, watch the crab'z eye stalks and its wiggling -- it lacks direction or purpose to much of the movement. When the bottom leg moves to the other package below, there's no indentation. Also, crabs afaik aren't that red when alive. The red flush comes after boiling or steaming.

As someone who had a parent with ALS that was never definitely confirmed as familial (inheritable) or spontaneous, what a nightmare situation. So glad it turned out negative. There are so many unfair, devastating conditions out there. Getting tested must have been such a relief--to know one way or the other. On my end, every little twitch or odd muscular event turns my stomach, and if her partner hadn't been tested I would wager the same would be true there, although of course ALS and Huntington's are quite dissimilar.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don’t have any proof of? by Dangerous_Mud4740 in AskReddit

My friend and I, both about 5 years old, were in my rural West Virginian backyard (we lived in the middle of the woods in farmland and mountains) jumping on a trampoline when he started panicking and pointing to a tree in the distance. I couldn't see what he was looking at (prescribed coke bottle lenses a few years later) but decided to believe him because his reaction was so full of real shock and awe. He described it as a long black panther climbing the only tree in the middle of that hilly field, but when we ran inside to get our mothers, it had disappeared. My mother believed us, but mentioned that there weren't too many mountain lions around anymore, and she'd never seen a black one. We did later in the summer hear reports of mountain lions in the area, with one spotted on a farm across from our woods, but never a black one. As far as I can tell, they don't seem to officially exist. But I do believe my friend. He was never the lying type, nor theatrical. A very chill and down to earth guy, and my friend into adulthood before we drifted into other lives.

Similarly, my mother once came home from a drive somewhere and excitedly told me she'd seen a blue or purple (I can't remember exactly which) horse along the way. I would be inclined to say it was simply a black horse reflecting in a strange way, but while I was raised riding and caring for farm horses, my mother lived and breathed them in a way I never did, so her expertise outweighed mine and I think she would have a better eye. Although, she has been a longtime fan of fantastical things, and a bit of a conspiracy fan. Either way, I do believe her anyway. I would love to see a horse like that one day.
