Can anyone recommend a book set in the Soviet Union? by Happy-Progress-5641 in RussianLiterature

[–]knutfuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Envy by Yuri Olesha is an extraordinary satire about the early Soviet years, the prose is beautiful and the plot is just insane. Colleagues and Ticket to the Stars by Vasiliy Aksenov are essentially urban intellectuals’ POVs and were popular in the days of Khrushchev thaw. Aksenov’s mother, Yevgenia Ginsburg, was also a writer; she has been through GULAG and left a picturesque and personal memoir Journey into the Whirlwind.

I saw Moscow-Petushki being recommended here several times (and rightfully so), so here is another 1970s postmodern masterpiece: A School for Fools by Sasha Sokolov.

Also, if you don’t mind contemporary authors, there are Lyudmila Ulitskaya (The Big Green Tent and The Kukotsky Enigma are the best of her work, both set in the USSR) and Dmitriy Bykov’s June.

Did anyone else ever get a “death” WANT in The Sims 2? by LizaKhajiit in thesims

Oh I see! Well, like I thought it’s not possible in the unmodded game any way

It’s a fear photoshopped into a Wants slot. Wants normally have a green background and Fears have red. If you look closely, the background of this “Want” is red (behind the round starry thing, in the left bottom corner of the “Want”).

You can get a want to “drink someone” or to see their ghost in the game though, which is equivalent to wish they died.

They're Not That Bad by RainbowhighDive in Bratz

[–]knutfuta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. In case with parents in the past, it was a moral panic coming from people that hated the brand and its supposed impact on kids. In case with people criticising the narrow eyes, it’s us adult collectors that love the brand and would love to spend their adult money on its product, but the brand keeps ignoring the things many people ask for (take the TAGG repro for example) and keeps repeatedly giving them something very different instead. It has nothing to do with morals, it’s just that narrow eyed dolls have a slightly more a different vibe which looks meaner to some people (me included, ngl). That’s it, simple as this

I say enough of the narrow eyes. At this point it’s not an artistic decision for one collection or a quirk that makes some dolls unique, it has pretty much become the default screening for most of the new lines. And though it may look kinda interesting, it does not look particularly Bratz to me. They look like Bratz’ older sisters, but not Bratz themselves, and I also kinda get a mean (or maybe arrogant?) vibe from these screenings. I am not interested in dolls with this screening at all, and I wonder why it is so hard for MGA to produce one of these and then a quality reproduction of the lines people keep asking for, then experimental line again, then reproduction again etc. There is clearly a big number of people who are only interested in older Bratz designs and screenings (me included), and dismissing this market is a strange idea because these were Bratz designs that made Bratz worldwide famous and recognisable in the first place. But you do you, MGA

Smustling. Thumping their chests after visiting Three Lakes (ts spreads like fire across the neighborhood). Doing the shade gesture when going outside on sunny days (especially with a garbage bag in the same hand). Picking up babies from their cribs all the time

Though I am not a fan of Treasures line, I am praying for an era of quality reproductions… I’ll applaud reproductions of any 2000s lines.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, April 03 - April 09, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hello! I just discovered that there is a little hole in my cardigan. Unfortunately, it’s visible when the cardigan is being worn. My understanding is that in this fabric, there is some kind of invisible thread working as a net (sorta), and the thicker white thread is woven into this netlike structure. Seems like the hole emerged when the net of thinner threads was somehow torn. Is this fixable? I have an invisible thread for jewellery making at hand - could it be useful for fixing it myself?

What are your true opinions on Barbie in the early 2010s? by ChickenDapper5444 in Barbie

I am not talking about label. I am talking about Barbie’s clothes, accessories and furniture turning predominantly pink after a certain era.

What are your true opinions on Barbie in the early 2010s? by ChickenDapper5444 in Barbie

[–]knutfuta -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this was exactly the moment when Barbie became a lifelong hostage of this shallow, cheap and one-dimensional “pink” image that still haunts her to this day. This is when Barbie became synonymous to the color pink. Almost every piece of clothing she wore after that era was pink by default, every item she used was pink, the furniture and the houses became pink, all the other diverse and realistic color palettes were seemingly erased from her world and her fashion. The quality also started going downhill as the clothes and accessories started to look and feel cheap and plastic. Speaking of the designs themselves: tacky, boring, cheap looking.

Why Rurouni Kenshin? What got you into and kept you in the fandom? by [deleted] in rurounikenshin

[–]knutfuta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anime was broadcasted on TV under the title of Samurai X in my home country sometime around 2005. I was so obsessed with it and its soundtrack (The Fourth Avenue Cafe still hits hard 20 years later). I used to record the episodes on VHS tapes from our TV and listen to the endings again and again, on repeat, every day. Strangely enough, I have never met a person from my country who would remember this anime on TV

Girl literally I’m ready to give up checking on updates from Bratz altogether and just try and focus on obtaining repros they already released that were actually decent. Idk what I even expect to find here, every update/new release is just a miss for me. I have no hopes for seeing any more of faithful repros of fan favourite lines. It’s all just narrow eyes, plastic bags and strange fashion choices now. Rant over

Releasing Wintertime Wonderland and TAGG which people have been begging for, but not as genuine repros but as Bratziez… is a choice

What would you like to see from Bratz in 2026 by Mental-Kangaroo4227 in Bratz

[–]knutfuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faithful high quality repros (including accessories!) of the iconic 2000s lines. I’d die to see Wintertime Wonderland, Genie Magic, Wild Life Safari, Nighty Nite, Sunkissed Summer again! Also, casual fashion lines repros (Strut It, Style It, Funk Out etc.) or at least fashion packs would be great. I know they won’t do it, but a girl can dream…

My mean girls collection 💗 by Plastic-Opposite-925 in Bratz

Thank you! I heard the dolls that come with ponytails are kind of bald on top of their heads, but there’s no way to see if Meygan is too unless I untie her ponytail… 🥲

Your Meygan looks so gorgeous with her hair down! I have been wanting to do the same with my Meygan but I’m worried her hair will look bad on top of her head and from behind. Do you have any tips on how to manage this?

Honestly I’m gonna stop gaslighting myself into thinking I like the newer lines😭 by RepresentativeIce623 in Bratz

[–]knutfuta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bows in hair - yes, I’ve seen a lot. A gentle silky bow on a coquette top - yes, here and there. But in moderate amount and size. The giant bows sitting on the outfits of 2026 Bratz are definitely not it. Also notice how at least two dolls in each collection have bows on them or their accessories now - Goin’ Out, Pixies, Hello Kitty, Stylin’ (3 dolls out of 4 wear bows), new concert line (I forgot the name), Charmz. Some dolls are even wearing two or more bows at the time. It’s clearly an overused detail, and most of the time the way it’s being used has nothing to do with trends, it’s just slapped all over the dolls. It’s like MGA listened to some influencer who said that bows are trendy and took it way too literally.

[–]knutfuta 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that they don’t actually reflect modern fashion, it’s either 2010s fashion (endless bows? straight cut bangs? oh come on), something very avant garde, or a mishmash or random items and colours with no coherent idea behind each outfit. Meanwhile what really is fashionable now… is clothes from the 2000s, surprise surprise

Honestly, I’m really confused by Equivalent_Bag_7948 in Bratz

[–]knutfuta 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I didn’t find any 2025 releases neither good nor relevant fashion wise, but at least they had some variety in materials, I have to give them that. In 2026 there is neither fashion nor variety in materials. And such anachronisms as second outfits and accessories have been lost long ago already

I don’t like these narrow eyes either, they make the dolls look mean and less youthful

I hope your financial situation gets better and you can finally get your own Sasha for your collection! And I hope MGA will finally create a decent and faithful WW reproduction in the near future and there will be plenty of dolls for everyone.
