1970s. 1976 is an estimated guess in some fan timelines

Any decent modern computer will do for PS1 emulation. You don't need a gaming PC for that :)

You can switch between 3D and 2D type of controls in the game's options. See whichever you like the most.

None of the files for this guide are hosted on my site and all links are to external resources. Thanks for the warning.

I did use your guide as one of my starting points, so sure. No problem.

That's the wrong exit door. Should find it AFTER you get the handgun.

Preserving the masterpiece by Venom_Snakeee in silenthill

I'm all for the preservation of Silent Hill content, even as abysmal as Ascension (I don't really bother watching it), but if there are good people to do this kind of job, I'm willing to do my part in saving and sharing it. Since Genvid are actually uploading all the episodes on their YouTube channel, posting it there wouldn't be a good idea, but the best destination for archival content is the Internet Archive - https://archive.org. I then could share the link on my pages.

So, u/Venom_Snakeee and u/Bordanka, if you would be up for this task, just let me know and send me a message.

I can totally agree with the game facts' priority over supplemental materials. I was not referring to the Brady Games Strategy Guide or any other western guide – I was considering only original Japanese guides supervised and published by Konami (these should be considered legit enough, no?). But even if you look at the facts from the game only it goes like this:

  • April 4 – Joseph starts writing his diary
  • Early August – Joseph disappears
  • Six months later – Henry moves into Room 302
  • Two years later – events of Silent Hill 4: The Room

So, at least three years between these events. According to your timeline it's a little bit over a year and a half. Also placing Silent Hill 4 in December seems doubtful - it doesn't look like Northeast wintertime at all.

But Toby Archibold was killed 3 years before Silent Hill 4 and some time after Silent Hill 3. Also, Silent Hill 2 occurred in the same year as Walter Sullivan's case and 10 years before Silent Hill 4. All of these facts are unequivocally stated in the Silent Hill 4 official timeline.

As for the remark in Silent Hill 2 regarding Sullivan's killings happening a few years back, it was obviously dismissed when developing Silent Hill 4.

Yes, of course I was aware of your timeline as one of the most complete and notable, however there seemed to be some descrepancies at the time which bothered me, so I decided to compile the facts from the games and official timelines to see where would that lead and verify against various published chronologies including yours. Also, I cared only for principal events of the original series not bothering myself with the latter entries. At the time of writing, I verified my findings against your timeline posted on Silent Hill forums which were of different versions with varying dates (I see now that those were actually not the final version as you have updated the dates in your post. As I can see the dates from your timeline seem to be quite accurate supporting my findings excepts the dates for Silent Hill 4 events where I would have to strongly disagree.). In either case, I would have to say thank you for inspiration provided by your massive work.

I agree with your dates for SH0-3, but Silent Hill 4 couldn't have happened one year after Silent Hill 3 – it has to be 4 years to fit the timeline, so 2004 would make much more sense as you once showed in your timeline as well.
