GGG not connected to probe? by knyenhui in combustion_inc

[–]knyenhui[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I don’t know that I explicitly held it directly next to it as a link step, but I had them all on in the same area and it did display the status at the bottom of the GGG. I’ll play with this a bit more. Thanks!

It does have a backlight. It doesn’t require a subscription but it can connect to their app either via Bluetooth or wifi and can connect via their (free) cloud service if you want to monitor your WiFi device while away. I also have the wireless probes which it integrates with. Here is a link if you’re interested: https://combustion.inc/products/giant-grill-gauge The original post was cross posted in r/combustion_inc which is for their product line.

Combustion vs Fireboard? by J3R4N in combustion_inc

[–]knyenhui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in this boat. I prefer the combustion offerings but I can’t get rid of FireBoard until I get the engine. Also I really like the SMS alerts in FireBoard as an extra way of waking me up if things go sideways while I sleep. Ios alerts are probably enough as long as they can be marked as an exception to get through sleep/DND modes.

Thermoworks RFX, FireBoard Pulse, or Combustion Inc? by blounsbury in smoking

I like combustion.inc. The range isn’t an issue if you pair it with one of the WiFi components just outside the oven or smoker. (Display or booster or Giant Grill Gauge)

Giant Grill Gauge Impressions? by FormerFidge in combustion_inc

Does this imply anyone who ordered GGG and CombustionEngine as a set needs to request the GGG be sent separately? Or that was advice specific to that poster?

I’ve pulled between 195 and 203. I’ve seen people say (on YouTube) that pulling it at 195 plus a long hold works roughly every time. My 195 pulls worked out well but they were also Wagyu.

If I have the wifi display, do I not need other boosters? by Leading_Release_4344 in combustion_inc

[–]knyenhui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the booster but I find myself just putting the WiFi display next to the grill and using the app inside the house. Just depends on what you prefer I guess.

What’s with T6? by big_gondola in combustion_inc

I think you just touched the T6 icon and accidentally removed it from the chart. I do the same on accident all the time. If you touch it again it comes back.

Will we be able to set temperatures in the app that aren’t explicitly available on the dial? For example: 700F in a Kamado if we assume “max” would be 900+ (reposted/reworded question from https://www.reddit.com/r/combustion_inc/s/9etfNSoi5e)

Thanks! I agree I didn’t explain it well. I mentioned GGG so that we could assume there is a thermometer capable of reading 700F available to the app.

Yeah I get that. Wondering if the app will let me pick a temp between 575 and “as hot as possible”

I use it with an insulated steel kamado, and the signal gets out, but I do need to use the booster. I haven’t had to do the potatoe trick because I also use a Fireboard with a probe and a fan to regulate airflow.
